6: The Bad Idea

OLIVIA FISHER had been getting panic attacks since a few years ago, mostly due to when her mom got diagnosed with cancer. However, even when Susannah had beaten cancer, Via's panic attacks stayed. She didn't know why, but it just got so hard to breathe, to concentrate, to speak. Olivia thought there was something wrong with her.

But after going to many therapists, Olivia was told (not only to drink lots of water) but to count to ten when she felt herself worry. It helped sometimes, yet maths couldn't fix all of her problems. Especially when the problem was growing and couldn't be controlled.

She spent the rest of the day with Jeremiah, who insisted on being her personalised doctor (as he called it). He managed to get off his lifeguard job early, in order to take care of his sister- which mainly involved them playing video games. Via only wanted Jere and Steven to know about what had happened, but somehow the situation had spread around due to the other Debutantes who witnessed it happen.

Conrad, Jere, Steven, and Via all sat on the couch playing video games for a few hours, before Belly appeared in the doorway behind them, "See you guys later."

Jere turned around, placing his games controller on the couch and rushing up to her, "Damn."

Steven scoffed sarcastically, "Yeah, fine, just abandon the game completely."

"Jere!" Via panicked, pressing the buttons on her controller quickly, "We were winning."

Jere continued, "You look hot, Belles."

Olivia lowered her eye-line from the TV screen, her heart dropping to the bottom of her stomach. She turned around to look at Belly- Jere wasn't wrong, she did look hot. She wore a knitted, blue, flower-print tank top with denim shorts, her brown hair cascading down her back. Via thought she looked beautiful, yet she always thinks that.

"Hey, hey, hey, stop flirting with my sister." Steven insisted, turning around to look at her.

Belly argued, "Shut up, Steven."

"No, you shut up." Steven retorted, before nodding, "You look good, though."

"Are you driving with us to the book party?" Jere asked, "Or are you meeting us there?"

"I'm not going to the book party." Belly replied, "I'm going to the drive-in."

Conrad questioned, turning around, "With who?"

Steven nudged him repeatedly, "Dude, dude, focus. Come on." He turned to Via, who had stopped playing, "Are you alright, Ollie?"

"Yeah, yeah, fine." Via nodded, snapping back into reality. She turned back to Belly, glancing at her as she looked in the mirror, "Have fun, Belly."

"Thanks." Belly smiled, as she looked at herself in the mirror, before leaving the room.

The Book Party celebrated Laurel's new books, so the kids were forced to attend. Via would've had much more fun if Belly was there, but she wasn't- Belly was on a date. Via couldn't stop thinking about it.

Olivia took a secret sip of alcohol, before walking over to the couch the boys were sitting on. She asked, "Can we go somewhere else? This shit is boring."

"Yeah." Steven asked, "Where?"

"We could go into town." Jere suggested, "We could buy some weed from that guy with the Rainbow Dash tattoo."

Conrad replied, "He got arrested last summer."

"We could go to the drive-in." Steven suggested.

"No, we can't." Via replied quickly, "I don't wanna see Belly kissing some random dude. That's gross."

"Yo, actually..." Conrad disagreed, "Let's go to the drive-in."

"Wait, like, really?" Steven questioned, as they followed Conrad out.

Steven drove the group to the Drive-In, where they interrupted Belly's kiss with Cameron. She refused to look at the two kissing, pretending to be interested in the movie playing in the distance. Jere and Steven mocked her, pretending to kiss the air before Conrad chuckled.

Cameron left the car to get drinks, before Belly stormed towards their car angrily. She swung open the drivers door, shouting in Steven's face, "What the hell do you think you're doing?!"

Steven laughed, "Uh, just catching the end of our favourite movie."

"You have no right!" Belly shouted, "You have to go!"

"Oh, Belly, relax." Jere chuckled, "We're just joking around."

Belly lowered her voice frustratedly, "Steven, if you don't leave, I swear to God, I will send everyone in this cat your Dramione Fanfic."

Steven chuckled nervously, "You wouldn't."

"He spent an entire chapter talking about Draco's wand." Belly explained, as the group laughed. Via smirked at the girl, though Belly didn't smile back.

"You know, don't be embarrassed, man." Jere reassured, "Draco's hot."

Belly looked at Via, "Hey, seriously? Please, leave."

"It wasn't even my idea." Via defended, "They wanted to come, not me."

"Yet you still came." Belly argued, "You could've told them not to embarrass me! You, of all people, should know what it's like to feel like this."

Via frowned, "What the fuck is that suppose to mean?"

"Today, at the Meeting, I saw you walk out." Belly explained, "It feels pretty shitty to be embarrassed in front of everyone, right? So, why would you put me through that now."

Jere interrupted, "Guys, relax. We'll leave."

Olivia stepped out of the car angrily, "Don't even compare our situations, they're totally different!"

Steven reassured, "Breathe, Ollie."

"No!" Via shouted, "I don't know why you're just blaming me! It was Conrad's fucking idea to follow you out here. Not mine!"

Belly took a breath, looking sympathetically at Via. She softened her voice, realising she may of hurt Via's feelings, "Look, I'm not trying to be an asshole. But please, just leave."

Olivia nodded, yet she didn't say anymore to Belly. She turned around, climbing back into the car, before insisting, "You heard her, let's go. Go!"

"Alright, alright." Steven sighed, rolling his eyes, "It was Conrad's idea to come."

Olivia spent the rest of the night alone in the kitchen, sitting at the table as she attempted to read a book. Of course, most of the words were jumbled and moving on the page, but Susannah insisted that practice makes perfect. Besides, Via's dyslexia wasn't the only thing stopping her from reading, but the thought of Belly lingered in the back of her mind. She couldn't shake off the thought that she had ruined Belly's first date.

Belly strolled into the kitchen, as she smiled to herself before noticing Olivia. She asked, "Are you reading?"

"Trying to." Via corrected, before shutting the book, "How was your date?"

Belly explained, a slight feeling of anger laced through her voice, "Despite the fact you guys are assholes, it was actually okay."

"I said I'm sorry." Via defended, "I don't know what else to do-"

"Nothing! I want you to do nothing else. " Belly interrupted, "You know, all I wanted was to go to a drive-in with a guy that I think is cute and sweet... and you guys had to come and ruin it."

Via stood up, pushing her chair away from the table as she did so, as anger festered inside of her. She defended, "For the a thousandth fucking time, I didn't want to go and watch you kiss some random dude. It wasn't even my idea! I don't see you shouting at Conrad."

"God, why can't you let me have this one thing?" Belly argued frustratedly, "Huh? Admit it. You knew what you were doing."

"What?" Olivia scoffed in disbelief, "What the fuck was I doing, Belles?"

"Don't call me that." Belly insisted, as she brushed her hair out of her face in distress, "Just stop reminding me that you exist!"

"Can you hear yourself? You sound insane." Olivia frowned, attempting to walk out of the room but she stopped when she heard Belly speak again.

"You cared where I was, who I was with." Belly explained, "Why? Are you jealous of me, or something, for actually having love-life? Are you that obsessed?... Or do you just have a raging crush on me?"

Via's heart dropped as soon as those words escaped her mouth. She didn't turn around to look at Belly, she was frozen on the spot. Tears swelled in her blue eyes, yet she didn't let a single droplet fall down her cheek.

Via could only storm away, as she scoffed, "Grow the fuck up, Isabel."

Belly was left in the kitchen alone, in silence. She frowned to herself, attempting to follow the girl but she had to stop herself. Belly sighed, "Livy, come on."

But it was too late, the girl had already stormed away in floods of silent tears.
