author's note: my first request from wattpad :D ! thank you, and i hope y'all enjoy this.
the request asked that sammy doesn't know the reason why reader does not want to do something, but i thought it would be cuter and sweeter if he did even if the reader didn't directly tell him why. i hope that's okay!

you met him through some of your mutual friends so the moment he asked you out and asked for your number, it was a no-brainer. of course you said yes. you believed that your friends would only hang out with the best of the best and thankfully, you weren't proven wrong by that logic.
you've been with sammy for about six months now, and they've been the best six months of your life. he was an amazing and supportive partner and friend, always tending and giving you attention while respecting the boundaries that you have set in the early stages of your relationship.
since being with him, you've learned quite a few things about the man, he was open and honest, completely unapologetically himself which is something you always yearned for in a partner. he never tried to conceal anything from you, he wanted you to commit yourself to the authentic sammy guevara, because if you didn't, and he made you fall for a version of himself that didn't exist, then what was the point of the relationship?
you learned some of more fun trivia things about him, such as his favorite food, the position he sleeps in, and his go-to movie whenever he's sad, as well as different experiences that he's had that molded him to the person he is today. they only made you fall in love with him more.
another thing you learned about him, something that was important and you found very interesting was the fact that he was a wrestler for all elite wrestling. sure, you've heard of wrestling before, who hasn't? you were even a fan of it back when you were still a child. and you've heard of aew as well, although new and less well known than other wrestling companies, they slowly started to seep into pop culture, namely because of snoop dogg's appearance, and the young bucks' thing for sneakers. you would also be lying if you said that you've never checked them out when you stumbled upon it while flicking through channels. funnily enough, sammy caught your eye one time when you were watching dynamite for a quick second. all of a sudden, him looking familiar when you first met him made sense.
slowly, he started to introduce you to his wrestling more and more, as per your request. he was passionate about it and being a good partner, you wanted to support him and that couldn't happen if you didn't have an idea about his career, couldn't it? he told you about his first few years in wrestling, who trained him and how it was like, his journey towards where he stands today. it was only a matter of time before he brought up the group he has joined since his early days in all elite wrestling: inner circle.
he gave you a quick run-down of each of his teammates. santana and ortiz, also known as proud and powerful. an established tag team even before they got signed to the fairly new company. they had chemistry like no other, and your boyfriend was very glad he got to stand with them on the same side of the ring, instead of going face-to-face with them. jake hager, has a mma background. has had a fairly long stint in wwe which meant he has a lot of useful knowledge about tv wrestling. and last, but in other people's list, not the least, chris jericho. the name that stands out the most out of all the members, and for good reason. wrestling legend. has had some memorable moments, and wrestling wouldn't be in this stage without him. aew wouldn't be on this stage without him either, since to an extent, they have relied on him to bring in new fans during the earlier days of the company, along with recognizable names like jon moxley.
when he told you about them, you just smiled and nodded. you weren't a big fan of jericho for.. reasons, but you didn't have the heart to bring it up to sammy at that time. he just looked so happy gushing to you about it. it wasn't like it really mattered anyway. you could look pass that, especially when you acknowledged the fact that sammy wouldn't be here without him. he didn't have to know about your dislike towards the man unless he really had to.
you didn't know the opportunity would come so quickly.
he bounded over to you, bright eyed and bushy tailed and a grin on his lips. you could already sense that he couldn't wait to tell you something, and that excited you. you loved talked to him, whether it's having an actual conversation, or simply having him ramble on and on to you. you loved and cherished it all the same.
"[y/nnnn]," he called, dragging out your name as he plopped down on the couch next to you and rested his head on your lap. your hands immediately reached out to run through his hair.
he smiled at you from his position and adjusted himself, wiggling from side to side, "so i've been thinking-" you interrupted him with a finally decided to use that brain of yours, eh? making him playfully glare at you. he cleared his throat and relaxed his then jokingly angry face before continuing. "so i've been thinking, we've been together for quite a while now, you know a lot about me, and i know a lot about you, and i don't know how you feel, but personally, i'm pretty serious about us." he looked up at you to gauge your expression and elicit a response from you.
"i'm serious about us too, sammy."
the corner of his lips turned upwards at what you said. he's glad you feel the same way as he does because the relationship wouldn't really work if you didn't -- if the two of you had different goals in mind. "okay," he nodded. "that's great. anyway, since we've been together for a long time, and we're both serious about this-" he waved at the small amount of space between you, "-i think you should meet my guys. chris, and santana, and ortiz, and jake. they've all been dying to meet you."
you quirked an eyebrow at him, "do you talk to them about me?"
blush settled on his cheeks, and he scratched the back of his neck. "yeah, kinda. you're just too damn great for me not to gush about, baby." he reached up to pinch your cheeks making you yelp in surprise.
you rubbed your now red cheeks with a small pout and processed what he said.
you wanted to meet his friends of course, the people who had your man's back in the ring, while you had his back out of it. he's told you plenty about them, as well and they all seemed to be lovely people. sammy really seemed like he enjoyed every second he spent with them, whether that's in their locker room, in private and away from the public's eye, inside of the squared circle, or whenever they went to restaurants and bars together, but even with all that, there was still one person you didn't really like in the group: chris jericho.
you just.. didn't really agree with a lot of the things he says and supports and because of that, you generally don't feel comfortable with him. even the thought of being in the same room as him and having to make small talk makes you shudder, and not in a good way.
"uh, i don't know, sammy. i'd love to meet them, but jericho bothers me a bit." you shrugged, tearing your gaze away from him and onto one of the paintings you hung up in the living room.
it was a painting you've wanted for a very long time now, but it was always too expensive for your budget. that was until you stumbled upon it on a garage sale near your house. your eyes widened to the size of dinner plates when you first saw it and you had to do a double take - how you didn't get whiplash from the speed in which you turned your head back then, you'll never know. you're thankful though - you couldn't believe it was right in front of you and for only fifteen dollars. you've seen some people sell it for fifty, and even a hundred. the people running the garage sale must be really itching to get rid of it. you had no idea why, until you saw one of it's corners. it was wrinkled and the colors had faded. the paper looked like it was disintegrating too. however, it didn't turn you off of the painting and you still bought it. you decided that it was too important to you - though you've never actually owned it yet - and said fuck it.
however, sammy immediately knew what you were talking about. he always listens to you when you talk, so it should not come as a surprise that he does. some of the things jericho believes in and some of the things you do don't align and while usually, that wouldn't be a big deal to you - like any other couple, you and sammy had some disagreements too and sometimes you weren't on the same page. you would go so far to say that you weren't even reading the same book - but these were things you felt very strongly about so your dislike towards him was not without valid reason. he understood.
"you don't have to talk to him if you don't want to. you can just talk to jake, and santana and ortiz. i know the four of you would get along well." he offered making you nod and a small smile grace your face. "yeah, that'd be nice. i can definitely agree to that."
"great then, it's settled!"
~
"the party is here!" sammy yelled, throwing the inner circle's locker room door open with his arms spread wide at his sided. you couldn't help but let out a chuckle, that chuckle turning into full-blown laughter with you doubled over clutching your stomach when santana threw an empty water bottle at his face. "you just got here, shut up!" then he recognized you standing beside his groupmate and he gave you an apologetic look.
"great first impression." you heard ortiz sneer next to him only for his partner to give him a glare -- a wordless threat, and the more energetic person in proud and powerful got the message in an instant and closed his mouth, trying his best to stifle his laughter.
"nice to finally meet you," jericho himself was the one to directly interact with you first as he was the leader. he put his hand out for you to shake and you did just that. "nice to meet you too," you kept your response short and simple, but still polite and socially-acceptable so it wouldn't draw a comment from him and result in a long conversation. that was the legitimately the last thing you wanted.
your eyes scanned the room, looking at the other members of inner circle. "it's nice to meet all of you guys. sammy's told me a lot about you."
they smiled warmly at you, inviting and open.
drawn to ortiz's seemingly never-ending amount of energy, you headed over to the bench where he and santana sat and settled there while sammy made conversation with chris. that's the way he would keep him away from you -- distracting him. he didn't know how the canadian would react if he knew how you felt about him so he kept it sneaky.
the whole time you were there, you conversed with santana and ortiz. hager didn't seem to be too much of a people person. he mostly sat in the corner of the room, occasionally piping in, but quickly dipping back out once his two cents were on the table and all sides were heard. you didn't mind that. the two people you were actually talking to had enough teasing banter in between them to carry everything -- you guessed that it was always like that with them and being with them was like being their babysitter. it was a funny image to image in your head though.
you were inseparable the whole night, only stopping during the few minutes they were needed to film a promo, but that was it. the next and last time you separated was when it was time to go home, and even then, you told them that you'd keep in touch. it was such a small price to pay to keep your man happy.
