Chapter 5
"We'll take five laps round the training grounds as warm up before we shift and begin training. Let's go." He took off first and the four of us followed but then he slowed down so that he can be the last and observe our speed.
Tyson was ahead but I caught up with him easily and quickly overtook him. I didn't want to run too fast so I could save up my energy. I also didn't want the Alpha to have high expectations for my wolf.
At the realisation of that I slowed down drastically, thinking if I could show the Alpha that I wasn't doing well then he would let me off training today.
Tyson had overtaken me but I watched as Natalie breezed by him giving an eight foot gap. I slowed down even more and let Jason come ahead of me.
"Isla pick up your speed."
I stopped and turned around to face the alpha.
I put my hands on my knees "Alpha I don't feel too well today."
He came over and looked down at me so coldly, I flinched.
"Resume your run."
"But alph-"
"Resume your run!" The authority and finality in his voice got me running again and soon I had passed Jason and caught up with Tyson but Natalie was still ahead. Not surprised Natalie was almost fully healed by this morning - werewolves heal that fast.
I decided that maybe if I ran really well, he'll let me off training. So I put in extra effort and increased my speed and soon I was ahead of Natalie but only by a little.
Finally we completed the laps with me in the lead and Natalie hot on my trail.
"Very good. Take five and we'll shift and take another run." The Alpha's statement had me sweating even more than the run.
"Hey have you told alpha you haven't shifted yet?" I turned around to face Natalie.
I looked at my feet "No. Not yet."
"So what are you going to do?" She asked looking concerned
"I have no idea." I confessed
"Don't worry. It'll be fine" She gave me a brief hug. "And I can't wait to kick your wolf butt" with that we laughed and she walked away.
I took a sip out of my bottle, trying to clear my head. Hoping alpha will let me off training.
"Gather round. Let's begin" Alpha announced making my heart beat faster.
We set out our extra set of clothes and lined up in front of the alpha. My anxiety began to kill me.
"I want you all to shift now so that I can assess your wolves before we run."
I heard clothes tearing on both sides and turned to my right to see Natalie's light brown wolf standing beside Jason's grey wolf. On the other side was Tyson's dark brown wolf. The male wolves were always bigger than females so Jason's wolf towered over Natalie's.
I looked forward and could feel the Alpha's piercing gaze at me through his glasses. His face was even darker than usual.
"Shift Isla." The seriousness in his tone made me flinch.
"Alpha I-"
"NOW!" He basically roared.
I gulped and turned to see the three wolves looking at me. Jason and Tyson's eyes were hard, wondering why I was disobeying the Alpha. But Natalie's eyes were soft and worried she even let out a soft whimper.
"ISLA!" I turned back to face the Alpha. His jaw was clenched and I could see a golden glow from behind his shades - his eyes were turning. Oh no.
I squeezed my eyes shut and mentally pushed myself. Searching for any sign of my wolf. I urged and pleaded for her, if she was there.
"I do not condole disobedience." His voice was low and his eyes were probably fully golden.
I began to furiously plead for my wolf. And then I felt pain.
The same pain I felt that morning. It burned through my right hand and I screamed in pain. Clutching it tight. The pain intensified and I fell to my knees. Then my hand snapped.
I screamed in pain and my vision began blur. From the haze I saw the gold glow of the Alpha's eyes quickly disappear and he took a step towards me. Natalie whimpered from my side and rubbed my face with her snout.
My hand snapped in another place. My vision went black and I fell.
