Arc 1, Chapter 23: Nightfall.
———
Silver looked at OJ and put his hands up which were sporting with electricity every now and again. He laughed nervously and began to sweat. "Oh! H-hello! Hahah... Uh... It— Wasn't me...?" He gave a fake, nervous smile.
OJ looked at the lights and his mouth fell open in shock. "WH— HOW DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING—?!" OJ shouted in a fit of rage.
Silver took this moment to quickly flee the scene before OJ could yell at him, or scold him even more.
Silver walked down the hall and decided to go check the kitchen for Knife along with Pickle. Dinner was soon anyway.
———
Two hours later.
Nightfall.
Lightbulb happily exited the hotel, dinner was great. She had her fill on food and it was just getting dark. The moon was out and the soft colours of night were beginning to shine on the world.
The grass shimmered in the blanket of moonlight that shined down from overhead.
Lightbulb saw across the field, Baxter resting underneath a chair. It wouldn't hurt to play a bit before bed right? Lightbulb walked over. "Hey Baxter!" Lightbulb gave a small wave.
Baxter lifted his head and his scaly tail swayed back and forth. He was excited to see Lightbulb. Lightbulb looked around and found a stick. She already knew how this would end, but she found it amusing so, she didn't care.
She tossed the stick into the forest and watched as Baxter jumped up and ran into the woods after it. She waited patiently for a few minutes before Baxter came back, not with the stick she had thrown,
But with a dead tree.
Lightbulb snickered. "Wow bud, that's a nice stick you found!" She giggled more, her LED glowing dimly from her amusement.
Baxter did a little spin before dropping the dead tree in front of Lightbulb, and bowing the lower half of his body down in a playful position. Baxter's eyes were firmly on the stick— or, tree.
Lightbulb stared at it for a moment. How was she going to throw this...? Hmm... She suddenly had an idea. She closed her eyes and remembered what happened at the fight. She began to focus all of the energy in her to her hands, and sure enough, they began to glow.
Baxter looked excited, and his large scaly tail swayed from side to side even faster.
Lightbulb giggled reached to grab the tree. She managed to lift it with her powers. Her hand glowed brightly. Her eyes widened and she flinched. "Oh. I kinda expected it to be like— super strength or somethin but that works too." She struggled for a minute and waved her arms around for a moment before the tree finally flew off into the forest.
Lightbulb placed her hands on her hips as the light in them died down. She smiled proudly. She heard Baxter ran off into the woods playfully and Lightbulb laughed happily as she watched this.
It was adorable after all.
She waited for a few moments for Baxter to get back. She looked up at the stars and sow how pretty they all were. She felt... Connected to them in some way. It made her smile.
She heard something from the forest.
"Baxter! You silly Cragon! Get on back here!" Lightbulb giggled. She saw the glowing pair of eyes of Baxter attempting to sneak up on her in the distance. She stared at the glow for a minute before sighing and standing up.
She walked closer and noticed the lights were, not the same familiar warm pale white-ish-yellow look of Baxter's eyes.
She took a few steps closer into the clearing and saw light blue orbs instead.
"What is—?"
Lightbulb's eyes widened to the sound of crackling and sparking magic behind her. She turned her head only to be punch and blasted across the clearing into the glowing orbs, which also had exploded on her contact with them.
She slid agains the dirt and dry leaves, leaving a mark where she had landed. Her entire head burned and throbbed in agony. Warm blood poured rapidly out of the large shattered portion of her head, and cracks that shot along the rest of her glass body. The metal on her back had been severely damaged and also was burning with a sickening amount of pain. She felt the flesh of her wings sizzle and pop as the heat from the explosion blistered the skin beneath the charred feathers.
Her breathing was rapid, and laboured as she choked on her own blood. She tried to move her arms, but she felt the same sizzling burning pain on the skin from her limbs. She tried to call for help but all that came was a faint whimper. She couldn't see, it was only red, and have her sight wasn't there at all. She felt like she was getting weaker rapidly. She wanted to move, to get away from what had attacked her.
What attacked her?
She felt a foot on her chest and coughed more blood, a large amount came out of her mouth, all she tasted in that moment was blood.
She shakily brought up her arm to desperately attempt to wipe the blood from her eye she could see out of, to at least see the face of her attacker. As soon as she managed to wipe away a small portion of the blood. She teared up even more than she had already.
Her arm was then roughly stomped on and pinned by her attacker's foot. The burn wound searing with pain as if she had been pouring pure alcohol on a stab wound. She grimaced at the sickening amount of pain she felt and cried at the fact it had been inflicted on her by one of her closest friends.
Fan.
He had a blank expression as he stared down at the helpless girl. Reduced down to a vulnerable pile of glass and metal. He put his hand out and focused his power into another orb. And watched as Lightbulb's remaining eye widened.
She opened her mouth to beg. Broken words escaped her bloody lips "p-Ple—eSE—! F—F-a—n...!" She desperately begged as the glowing orb that worked and radiated with power.
"Don't worry Lightbulb... When Mephone revives you and the powers and wings are gone... We can forget all of this happened!" Fan gave a sickening smile. "Soon you'll see this as an act of mercy..."
Lightbulb screamed out for Fan to stop, but before she could get another word out Fan blasted her with a large orb, and a loud explosion rang out. Fan felt as pieces of glass flew past his face and littered the surrounding area. The smell of the melted metal and burnt flesh would have made any normal person gag, but Fan simply smile and turned away. He left before the smoke would clear.
Towards the hotel.
———
Bow sat at the table and chatted with many other objects. Most of them we're curious about how she returned to life. She explained it in what detail she could. Once again telling the others how, it was like a dream and, she didn't remember most of it.
Mephone also added her back into the revival logs, just in case she died. After all, it was better to be safe than sorry! Apple was excited to try Paper's cooking again, since they had been eating stale food for a while now, or cheap food that Marshmallow had bought since she worked a part time job.
Marshmallow was a cashier, she worked at the small town across the island. It was a long walk, but she eventually got used to it. She had to wake up early to make breakfast everyday anyway. And, she got dough to watch over Bow and Apple in her stead.
Marshmallow wondered how dough was doing all by himself. She wondered if he would be okay alone for maybe a week or so. She quickly shrugged it off and looked back over to Bow. She was making sure Bow didn't get too overwhelmed with the questions being shot at her from all angles.
Bow seemed pretty happy however. She felt so good to be around the contestants again. She really missed the competition after all.
Balloon and Nickel were eating at the far end of the table. Nickel had very tired eyes, he seemed like Balloon had dragged him out of bed to eat.
Because that's exactly what happened.
Balloon was eating very slowly. The pain in his wings were causing him was very troublesome. He wished it would just go away...
Nickel eventually drifted off to sleep. Luckily, he didn't fall in his food. Instead he leaned onto Balloon in his sleep since their chairs were so close together. Balloon wrapped his arm and wing around Nickel and gave a gentle smile.
Baseball saw this from across the table while in the middle of talking with s
Suitcase
He... Frowned...
OJ had a glass of wine in his hand, it was his first glass, but he definitely did not plan on making it his last.
Paper sat next to him and tried to reassure OJ by telling him that Soap and Clover were already starting to clean together. He also mentioned how they seemed happy to do it.
OJ sighed. "I guess... But it's still such a disaster... and it's gonna take some time... and love to fix it..." OJ groaned as he took another sip of his alcoholic beverage. "I might as well fill myself with alcohol... So I don't have to keep drinking it. I also don't have to deal with the hangover..."
Paper shook his head. "I mean I suppose it's also less deadly, but the last time I had to try to convince you to pour out the alcohol, you attempted to escape by rolling down the hotel stairs with the Cherries's skateboard... I had to squeeze oranges into your head after spending an hour supergluing the shards of glass you lost when you cracked your head on the floor!" Paper grumbled.
OJ chuckled nervously. "True— uh... Maybe not...?" He laughed a bit harder at the memory, and winced. "A-agh... Damn it..." he rubbed his back, it was beginning to become too much. He didn't want Paper to know he also had powers now either...
Paper might judge him for being a hypocrite, which he probably deserved... But he didn't want it...!
"A-are you alright...?" Paper asked, as he put a hand on OJ's shoulder.
OJ put his hand up and nodded. "N-no... I'm fine. hahah..."
Paper looked at him skeptically. "Why don't you go head off to bed? I'll get Test Tube to help me with the dinner dishes tonight."
"What—? No you don't have to—!"
"I insist! It will be fine." Paper gave a kind smile and shooed OJ towards the door after giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Off you go! You need some rest anyway!"
OJ sighed and turned to the doorway.
Mephone suddenly got a notification. He stood up out of his chair and read it. "Revive Lightbulb—?" He muttered as he read the words on his own screen.
Paintbrush immediately looked up from their phone in panic. "WHAT?! IM SORRY— HUH?!" They shout in panic. "HOW DID SHE DIE?!"
Mephone shrugged. "I don't know... Let's ask her— WOAH...?!" Mephone flinched as he opened the revival app only to see Lightbulb's profile glitching. Along with the notification bar. "What the hell?!" Mephone tried to click Lightbulb, but it didn't work. A silhouette of Lightbulb didn't even show up.
Paintbrush began to panic. "Where did she even go?! Where would she have died—?!" Paintbrush turned to the crowd of objects that were watching. "—Did any of you see where she went?!"
Everyone chats amongst themselves before Candle stood out of her speak. "I believe she left, and went outside." Candle informed in a quiet voice.
Paintbrush glanced at the window. It was so dark so it was hard to see through it since it was reflecting the room. They walk up and peer through the glass with they're face pressed against it. They gasp as they see Fan just outside the window charging an attack.
"GUYS— RUN!" They scream as they back away from the window, many other objects do the same and in a hurry too.
Seconds later the window is blasted inwards causing the glass from the windows to shoot around the room, and the shockwave behind it to send a few objects flying.
Paintbrush tumbled and fell flat on their face. Their fire flickering a purple colour as they feel the cuts from the glass that littered their face. They lifted themselves and turned to face Fan.
Fan was clenching his fists and staring at the people in the room. He counted those that weren't normal. Balloon, Nickel, Paintbrush, Bow...? BOW?! Fan was taken aback at the sight of the 12 year old girl. He could've sworn she died in season one?! Unless he missed a part in the episode— NO! Not possible!
She was suppose to be dead...
That means Fan...
Would have to kill her for real...
Bow looked fearful as she saw Fan's angry glare from atop the table. She backed away, the ripped parts of her ribbon slowly regenerating itself. For her it seemed entirely painless.
Fan cracked his knuckles as he stared with what he seemed 'abnormal' with disdain. His eyes then fell on Test Tube's scared gaze. He felt a tinge of guilt in the back of his mind. He shook it off and tried to summon an attack.
Nickel acted quickly and summoned a claw to attack Fan with. Fan noticed this and quickly charged his hand instead and punched the claw, causing the energy to crackle as it disappeared, like a firework.
Nickel felt a bead of sweat form on the side of his face. This wasn't good.
Fan chuckled with a smug smile plastered on his face. "You like it? I've been practicing..." he sneered.
Nickel couldn't find words to say, or at least, not ones he could say with young children in the room.
Balloon stood up, and spread his wings out in an offensive posture. Trying to seem more threatening. His eyes glowed a faint yellow colour.
Fan scoffed and charged both his hands up. His wings and eyes glow a pale blue. His eyes widened at a crunch from the glass, he turned quickly, and jumped out of the way of Paintbrush lunging at him. Paintbrush landed on the table.
Fan blasted Paintbrush during their brief moment of idly standing.
Paintbrush was blasted out of the window they tumbled into the grass, their fire flickered between a deep red and purple as they yelled upon contact with the ground.
Fan dove out of the window and flew after them, he dove down and hit Paintbrush into the ground, their wood splintered as Fan's feet dug into them.
Paintbrush screamed out and coughed up small traces of blood, as they clutched their chest, and torso.
Fan charged up another attack, but Nickel quickly used his claw to grab Fan's arm as Nickel jumped out of the window. He yanked Fan over backwards off of Paintbrush and used his other claw which he summoned instantly after the first attack and punched Fan into the ground below.
Fan got the wind knocked out of him, and narrowly rolled out of the way of another attack from Nickel. Fan jumped back to his feet, and grunted as he landed. He scowled at Nickel, Nickel returned the seething anger filled glare in turn.
Balloon finally found the courage to jump through the window to go help.
Fan charged up another attack, and blasted at Nickel. Balloon jumped into the air, and lifted Nickel up into the air as the explosion shook the ground below.
"Thanks—..." Nickel sighed in relief.
"N-no probLEM—!" Balloon yelped as he dodged another attack, and swooped down near Paintbrush.
Paintbrush wiped the blood from their mouth and dusted off the dirt and grass as they scowled at Fan in anger. "FAN YOU NEED TO STOP THIS! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" Paintbrush screamed in outrage.
"YOU SHOULD THANK ME! IM FIXING EVERYTHING! you're all just to STUBBORN to see it!!!" Fan growled as he clenched his glowing fists as they sparked and radiated with magic.
"Oh yeah! I'm SURE death and destruction is fixing everything! Thank you so much Fan. Couldn't have done it without ya..." Nickel snarled with sarcasm.
Fan grit his teeth with rage. "I ALREADY FIXED LIGHTBULB! Why don't you just STAY STILL LIKE SHE DID?!"
Paintbrush's face flashed with boiling rage. "You— you did what?!" Paintbrush boomed as their fire flickered to blood red.
Fan noticed it was ticking Paintbrush off, but didn't care. "She stayed still and let me blow her up into a thousand pieces! She let me fix her... And when Mephone revives here she'll be normal!"
"YOU KILLED HER?!" Paintbrush seethed, their eyes flickered. Their fire burned brighter and hotter.
"YES! Now stand still so you can join her!" Fan barked as he prepares to fire a orb at them.
Paintbrush's fire grew large and bright, they took a step and lunged at Fan so fast Fan didn't have a chance to even blink. Their fist caught ablaze as they wounded a punch the fire crackled loudly as it burned brightly, it was the last thing that Fan saw before he was punched across the field.
The force of the punch that collided with his shoulder exploded, causing his arm to burn as he flew through the air, not that it mattered as his wood where his shoulder connected came flying off due to the force. The fire on the wood was hot and cause fan to scream louder than he already was as he tumbled across the ground.
Paintbrush breathed heavily, sweat dripped down their face, and a few more droplets of blood from their nose and mouth.
Fan glanced down at his now severed arm, and bit his lip as he felt the pain in his entire body. He knew he had to get back up... But it hurt so badly. He almost felt tired. Blood rushed out and poured onto the grass below him. He saw Paintbrush giving him a look of hatred across the field. Even though they were far. Fan could tell nothing but pure bitter hate was behind their burning eyes.
Part of him wanted to give up.
It told him this was wrong.
It told him to cry.
To apologize...
To just fall asleep.
No...
No he couldn't give up yet...
He had fought so hard, for what—?! NOTHING?! He refused to accept this as an ending. He sat up, and stood with shaky legs. A crowd now forming outside the hotel.
Fan's eyes sparked a bright blue, power building inside him as his rage rapidly formed into something he couldn't even recognize as himself.
His hand charged up and he grabbed the where his shoulder used to be. The wood repaired itself in an instant. The flesh, bone, and muscle from his arm reformed from his shoulder to his finger tips. He flexed his hand a few times and closed it into a fist as it began to glow again.
Paintbrush's eyes widened. They were exhausted... And Fan was standing again...?! How many times was this bitch gonna stand back up?!
Nickel got back into a fighting stance.
Balloon followed.
The contestants all watched in horror as the fight continued.
This had to stop.
Or not only will people lose their lives...
But the island too.
