A Mirror Of Truth

It had been weeks since the queen issued the hunt, but no one had found Snow White, the only one that had was dead in the forest. She was concerned about what she was to do and found herself doing something she never thought she would before.

She found herself in a market of magic. She was seeking out the one called Esmeralda. She found a shop that had her name. Inside she found what appeared to be an old beggar woman. She had a wrinkled face filled with moles and long white hair with a swaying, ragged cloak.

"Ah, what can I do for you dear?"

"I need something of magic."

"I have many, for example, I once sold a flute to a young boy, well, he took it from me but it was what I wanted."

"Flutes aren't very special."

"Ah, but this one was. The tune it played could enchant one and then let you control them."

"Oh, that's not what I'm looking for."

"Give me an idea of what you want."

"Something that can give me knowledge."

"I guess I can rule out that old spinning wheel I have in the back," she muttered to herself.

"It has to tell the truth when I ask it questions."

"I think I have just the thing. I have a mirror, it contains knowledge of all that has happened and is happening. In it is a trapped soul."

"That sounds perfect, how much is it?"

"For you, dear, it's free."

"No, I insist."

"How about two loaves of bread? And with it, I will add a poison that does no damage, just puts one into a heavy slumber."

"I don't know why I would need that."

"You will need it, trust me on that."

So the queen gave the old beggar her loaves of bread and took back to the castle her mirror and the poison.

She set the mirror on the wall and said, "Where do I find Snow White?"

The mirror didn't do anything so she assumed it was thinking. But after dozens of minutes, it still didn't do anything. Was there an activation phrase that she had forgotten? Was it a fraud and that was why it was so cheap? She thought of all the things she could say to activate it, she then thought of the most ridiculous, but she figured it was worth a shot.

"Mirror mirror, don't put up a fight, please I beg you, show me, Snow White?"

"Through the forest, you shall roam, until you stop at a meager home, there you will find her with a comb," said a smooth and cold voice.

"Thank you."

A/N
