Chapter two

Chapter two

SPN time: During 'Devil May Care' (9x2)

Alex teleported Gabriel, Leo, and herself to a building leading underground in the middle of seemingly nowhere, a dense forest behind them and a dirt road before them. She carefully led the archangel through the small brick house and down a large staircase, letting him lean on her shoulder as Leo scouted ahead.

They weren't very far into the hideout before a pair of demons approached them, "Who the hell are you?" One of them growled; a tall man with pitch black eyes.

"Alex- Crowley's daughter," Alex answered, blinking her eyes dark red.

The second demon huffed, "Are you, now? Prove it."

"Can't you see my eyes?" Alex raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah," Answered the first demon, "they look pretty human to me."

Alex frowned and tried to change her eye color again. She looked over at Gabriel, "Is it really not working?"

Gabriel shook his head, "No, it's not..."

"If you are Crowley's daughter, haven't you heard?" The second demon asked.

"Heard what?" Alex turned her attention back to the pair of demons.

"Crowley's dead," The first demon spoke. "Has been for weeks."

"Dead?" Alex echoed in disbelief. "Impossible. How?"

Demon two shrugged, "No one knows, but a new leader's making an appearance."

"Who?" Gabriel asked weakly.

"Abaddon." Demon one answered simply.

The name didn't ring any bells for Alex. "So, who's side are you on?" She asked the pair.

"Crowley's, of course," The first demon answered.

"So we'll let you in," Finished demon two. He looked at Gabriel, then back to Alex, "Although I'm not sure what your intentions are..."

"Cool," Alex nodded, wasting no time in leading Gabriel farther into the secret underground area. They walked around the brick halls illuminated by golden flames hanging on the walls, their pet Hellhound trodding ahead curiously.

Alex took Gabriel into a large bedroom, forcing him to sit on the bed despite his protests, "Alex, I'm fine now, really." He frowned slightly, "I'm more worried about you."

"Why?" Alex looked around the room. It looked exactly like somewhere Crowley would stay. Fancy and expensively decorated, yet still clearly a formerly abandoned shithole. Or at least that's how Alex saw it. She pulled out the first aid kit and walked over to Gabriel, "I'm fine."

Gabriel didn't seem so sure, "Really?"

"Yes, I'm fine, Gabriel. You're the one who literally fell from Heaven," Alex sat down on the bed behind the archangel and began treating his wounds. Despite her words her headache hadn't subsided, and she was silently worrying about her dream and the fact that she couldn't show her demon eyes.

Gabriel sighed, "Alright." He already knew pressing her about it wouldn't do anything. Pretty much anyone could tell she was stubborn as hell, and he knew for sure, having lived with it for years.

"Care to explain more in depth about how the angels fell?" Alex asked after a few moments of silence.

"Sure," Gabriel agreed. "From what I've gathered, Cassie got tricked by an angel named Metatron who cast a spell that forced all of the angels out of Heaven."

"'Cassie'? You mean Castiel?" Alex chuckled darkly, "That's a name I was hoping to never hear again... Let me guess, the Winchesters are involved too?"

"Nope, seems to just be Cas' problem. But there's no doubt they've got some part in it."

Alex nodded, processing the information. Then she asked, "What about what that demon said about my dad? You haven't heard from him or anything have you?"

"Why would Crowley talk to me?" Gabriel chuckled. "No, I haven't heard anything. Although the name Abaddon rings a few bells."

"And what bells are those?" Alex began wrapping Gabriel's upper body in bandages, having finished cleaning the burns.

"It dates back to Cain and Abel. Cain made a bunch of Knights of Hell after everything with Abel, Abaddon being one of them. The last one, actually." The archangel explained. "Although I don't think she should be back..."

"Geez...Cain and Abel?" Alex fell back onto the bed, having finished her work. She groaned, "Damn, we're getting tangled in more of the Winchester's problems again, aren't we?"

"How do you know it has to do with the Winchesters?"

"Who else could royally fuck up so bad that it brings back a Knight of Hell and makes the angels fall?"

Gabriel laughed, "Yeah, true."

"So, this Abaddon chick, how hard would she be to kill?" Alex asked.

Gabriel turned so he was half facing her, "Uhm, very. Don't even think of trying, Alex. You can't."

"So, what, do I just let her rampage through Hell and take over?" Alex sat up and shook her head a bit. "That's not going to work."

"Since when do you care about what happens to Hell?"

Alex shrugged, "I don't, really. It's just, she sounds like bad news for Hell. Even you have to admit, Crowley's way works. It's organized, souls are sorted properly, deals are made correctly."

"You know a lot more about Hell than I thought," Gabriel said, sounding impressed.

Alex rolled her eyes, "I've only had a few hundred lectures on funds and how to properly run a business from Crowley when I was younger."

"Of all the things I've tried to teach you, you remember how to run a business from Crowley?" Gabriel raised an amused eyebrow.

Alex threw a pillow at him, "Shut it. It's easier, believe it or not."

"I don't believe it." Another pillow to the face.

"Alright, seriously. What are we doing now?" Alex caught the pillows as Gabriel threw them back.

Gabriel shrugged, "Whatever you want. As long as we stay undercover here, no angels should find us. The last place they'd look is a demon nest."

"Right, good." Alex tried to think of something to do, but paused as her headache grew even stronger than before. She placed her head in her hands as it continued to worsen, and her ears began to ring. It was faint at first, so faint Alex could have sworn she imagined it. But in only a few moments it became louder, until it was so loud she had to cover her ears- which didn't help in the slightest.

Gabriel, of course, became worried, "Alex? Are you alright?"

Alex shook her head, the pain too much to keep to herself any longer, "M-My head... All I can hear is...is...screaming... It's like a bunch of people are screaming in my head but it's so high pitched I can't make out any words..."

"Screaming?" Gabriel repeated worriedly. His first thought was Angel Radio. But that couldn't possibly what Alex was hearing. Just to check, Gabriel turned on his own Angel Radio- something he hadn't done in years, maybe even centuries.

The first thing that came in was screaming. Confused cries of hundreds upon hundreds of angels roaming Earth, not knowing what was going on or how it happened. Several others were cursing Castiel for it, asking each other where he was and how to find him. It was almost too much for even Gabriel to bare. He quickly turned it off.

He got up and walked around the bed to Alex. She was holding her head in pain, blood actually leaking out of her ears from the strain on her body. Gabriel wasn't sure how to help her. He tilted her head up and placed two fingers on her forehead, frowning as nothing happened.

"You're going to have to 'unlock' your head for me to do this, Alex," Gabriel spoke, keeping his voice calm and even for the sake of her ears.

Alex nodded, easily unlocking her thoughts for the archangel.

Gabriel replaced his fingers, fishing around her head for a way to turn Angel Radio off. He couldn't find anything related to anything like Angel Radio, which only concerned him more. He let out a frustrated sigh, "I don't think I can do anything. You have to turn it off yourself."

"Turn it off?! What is it?!" Alex was practically yelling, unable to hear herself over the angel's true voices.

"It's called Angel Radio," Gabriel explained. "We can figure out why it's happening after. Right now, just...think about it like a switch, and turn it off." That was the only way he could think of explaining it. It was such a simple action for him that he never really thought about how he did it.

Alex did as he said, trying several times to imagine a switch. It didn't work. She tried imagining silence and serenity, trying to force her brain to be quiet. After several more failed attempts, the ringing seemed to die down, slowly fading out just as it had come in.

"What the hell just happened?!" Alex panted, "How was I hearing Angel Radio?!"

"I'm not sure," Gabriel said, shrugging. He frowned, "You shouldn't be able to... Only angels can hear it."

"Is that what you hear? High pitched ringing?"

The archangel shook his head, "No. For actual angels we hear Enochian. Your body can't handle an angel's true voice."

As Alex calmed down, her thoughts began to gather, "I've heard it before, a while ago... Back when you saved me from the barn during the Apocalypse..."

"Really?" Gabriel looked surprised. "That's weird."

"Could I be hearing Angel Radio because there's a ton of angels on it?"

"No. Even then, only angels can hear it."

Alex was stumped, "Huh."

"M-Miss Alex, t-there's a request for you...from Abaddon." They were interrupted as one of the demons from before half-entered the room, clearly terrified.

"Abaddon? Is she here?" Alex stood, wiping the blood from her ears and casting a concerned look to Gabriel.

"Well that's not a good sign..." Gabriel frowned. "Alex, we should leave."

"N-No, but she says it's very urgent... She wants you to go to her in Hell." The demon piped in sheepishly.

"And why should I give a damn what a demon wants?" Alex's tone suddenly hardened, scaring the once-proud demon even more.

"W-Well, she's going to be the new queen...so..."

"I thought you were on Crowley's side?" Alex crossed her arms. "Tell Abaddon she can either come to me herself, or simply fuck off. And if she doesn't like that, tough."

"R-Right... I'll tell her right away," The demon nodded and quickly left.

"Scary." Gabriel commented, somewhat impressed.

Alex's angry exterior melted away and she turned to Gabriel with a smile, "I've had a lot of practice. Demons'll do anything you ask, all you've gotta do is scare them. Which is pretty easy."

Gabriel chuckled, "I see. So, what are you going to do if Abaddon gets pissed and comes after you?"

Alex shrugged, "Dunno, but it should be fun. I'm more concerned with what the hell just happened in my head." She glanced around the room for her lore books before pausing and sighing sharply, "Ugh, I'll be back. There should be something to help in here somewhere..."
