Chapter twenty one
Chapter twenty one
“Alex was admitted with liver failure and...uh….massive internal burns.” The psychiatrist, Dr.Kadinsky, looked through Alex’s medical file. “I’ve never seen something like this. Every organ in her body has second and third degree burns. And the amount of alcohol she’d have to drink at once for her liver to fail….” He shook his head.
“Was she drunk when she got here?” Gabriel asked, sitting across the doctor in the doctor’s office.
“Very.” Kadinsky nodded. “But we’re not sure of her real name. She claims her father is a man named Fergus MacLeod, but the only man by that name died in the 17th century. In Scotland.”
“Oh?” Gabriel was surprised Alex would use her father’s human name.
“Do you happen to know her real name….Sir?”
“Gabriel. And yeah, her real name is Alex White.” Gabriel decided to go with her most common FBI name.
“Alright.” The doctor wrote Alex’s ‘real’ name onto her file. “What’s your relation to her, Gabriel?”
“Uhm….Ex…”
Kadinsky nodded, “Does she have any family, friends that we can contact? She’s in pretty critical condition.”
“No, not really.” Gabriel shook his head. He didn’t really care about all this paperwork, he just wanted to make sure Alex was alright.
“Ok. Well, I’d like to keep Alex here, if you don’t mind. I want to find the cause of the internal burns, and treat her for her possible schizophrenia.”
“Schizophrenia? You never mentioned that…?” Gabriel frowned. She must still be seeing Lucifer…
“One of the nurses has learned that there’s a voice in her head trying to convince her to commit suicide.” Dr.Kadinsky informed. “Did you not know about this?”
“Well..I- uh…” Gabriel didn’t really know what to say. ‘Oh yeah, she’s seeing my angel brother who’s tormenting her with her memories from hell. And my brother just so happens to be satan!’ Yeah...that won’t work… “I guess I noticed a few things here and there…”
“How long were you two together?”
Another question Gabriel didn’t know how to answer. Between me being dead and her going to hell, technically not that long. “About a year...ish.”
The psychiatrist nodded, “Alright, I believe I have all the information I need. You can go see her if you’d like.”
“Thanks.” Gabriel instantly jumped up, glad he could finally go see her, even though he had no clue what to say.

When Alex got back to her room, followed by a slightly annoyed nurse, she noticed a certain archangel sitting in one of the chairs. And it wasn’t Lucifer this time. “Gabriel?!” She froze, not knowing what to do.
“Hey.” Gabriel smiled a little, standing up from the chair.
“Excuse me. Visiting hours are over. And I need to continue Alex’s treatment.” The nurse interrupted.
“It’s alright. I feel fine.” Alex tried to convince her, but her yellowed skin and eyes, and aching body said differently.
“Yeah, sure.” The nurse rolled her eyes. “You shouldn’t even be out of bed!” She guided Alex to her bed and lied her down. Alex sighed and waited for the nurse to finish whatever she was doing- Alex didn’t really care.
The nurse left and Alex and Gabriel were left alone with a horrible tension and awkward silence. “Uhm…” Alex played with her hands, looking at them and not at Gabriel who sat nearby. “I’m sorry….I know that doesn’t change anything but…” She sighed, not really sure what she was trying to say. “I don’t have an excuse for anything. I-I…” Her voice cracked and she covered her face with her hands. “F-Fucking human emotions.” She mumbled. It wasn’t much, but she was a lot more emotional than she usually was as a normal antichrist.
Gabriel chuckled a bit, but didn’t know what to say. Sure he was pissed, and depressed, but he was also glad everything was finally over. But no matter how happy he was that she was safe, he couldn’t just forgive her that easy.
“I-I didn’t mean a-anything I said. I-I just...I don’t know…” Alex gave up. She wanted Gabriel to forgive her, but at the same time she wanted him to leave because she knew she didn’t deserve anything. Gabriel was still silent. “Are you going to say anything?” Alex looked up at him.
Gabriel sighed, “I don’t know what to say, really.”
“W-Well…” Alex looked away from Gabriel and back to her hands.
“I’m sorry too.” Gabriel spoke up after a while of silence.
“No.” Alex looked at him again. “You shouldn’t be apologizing. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Gabriel sighed, “I made you remember Hell…”
“I tried to kill you!” Alex exclaimed.
“Yeah, but-”
“I cheated on you, I lied to you- multiple times, I-I left you for a demon!” Alex continued. “You did what you had to. I was an idiot.”
“You were being manipulated!” Gabriel stood up. “He was doing that to you! You just never noticed!”
“And I was an idiot for not noticing!” Alex stood up as well, ignoring her body’s protests.
“This isn’t your fault! Not entirely.”
“And it’s not yours either.”
There was another long pause.
“Am I interrupting something?” Alex stiffened at Lucifer’s voice. “Aww! You were having a moment! Go on, continue.” Alex turned and looked at Lucifer who sat on a white desk on the opposite side of the room.
“Lucifer again?” Gabriel asked, a concerned look on his face.
“Yeah…” Alex didn’t feel like saying she was fine. She knew she wasn’t. “He’s not doing anything though…”
“You know, there’s only one way to deal with this.”
“What? Killing myself?” Alex looked at the floor.
“What? No! I can wipe your memory of being in hell.” Gabriel offered, surprised at what she thought he meant.
“Yeah...Fine…” She didn’t even care that’d she be losing a large chunk of her life.
“I’m going to heal you some too, okay?” Gabriel raised his hand but waited for her approval.
“Sure…” Alex nodded. She closed her eyes and waited for the familiar warm feeling to flow through her. She assumed she would still remember she had been in hell, just not the details of exactly what happened.
When Gabriel was done, he removed his hand. “So...are we...ok?” Alex asked slowly.
“I don’t know, are we?” Gabriel looked at her.
“Well...I do still love you…” Alex’s voice got quiet. She noticed Lucifer’s presence had disappeared, and it felt like a large weight had been lifted off her.
“I love you too.”
“I’m sorry…” Alex apologized again.
“You can stop apologizing.” Gabriel smiled.
“But I-”
“I was just in your head. I know you feel like shit for what happened…”
Alex shifted a bit, Did he see everything?!
“Yes.” Gabriel smirked.
“H-Hey!” Alex blushed and looked away. “I thought we agreed you stay out of my head.”
Gabriel continued smirking, “Yeah...I know. I made an exception.”
“Dick.” Alex lightly pushed him.
Gabriel chuckled, “I can be your dick though.”
“Oh, you’re so romantic.” Alex said sarcastically. She surprised Gabriel by quickly pulling him into a hug. “I really am sorry though.” She mumbled into his shoulder.
Gabriel smiled and hugged her back, “Yeah, yeah, I know. But you should get some rest.” He pulled back a bit to look at her face.
“I feel fine, your healing helped.” Alex insisted, still resting her head on his chest.
“I couldn’t do much, I just healed your liver. The burns are going to take a few more sessions.”
“I know, but honestly, I’m fine.” Alex pulled away from him. She knew she still wasn’t okay, her entire body was in severe pain. She assumed the only reason she had been able to keep herself together was because of an adrenaline rush or something. But now that everything had really calmed down, she felt like shit.
“That’s why you should be resting.” Gabriel interrupted her thoughts.
“Yeah, yeah. Stay out of my head.” Alex waved him off, climbing back into the hospital bed. “I thought I locked you out?”
“Well you had to let me in so I could wipe your memory.” Gabriel pointed out.
“Yeah…” Alex thought about that for a few moments, she did feel like she was missing something, and it was almost like the idea of her having gone to hell was insane. She didn’t doubt it, she remembered trying to stop Michael, but there was just a really odd feeling Alex couldn't exactly explain. “Night, Gabe.” She muttered, pulling the blankets to her chin.
“Good night Alex.”

Gabriel watched Alex sleep for a while. The nurses would come in every once in a while to check on her or refill her IV. He noticed they had her on a lot- a lot- of painkillers, but even the highest doses they could give her weren't helping. He had even tried healing her again, but for some reason not even his archangel powers could do much to help. Gabriel was sure over time she would be fine, she wasn’t really in critical condition anymore, but being completely human was taking a toll on her body for some reason. Gabriel didn’t understand it, but they’d just have to wait.
“Is there something wrong?” Gabriel asked a nurse who was checking up on Alex.
“She’s bleeding…” The nurse turned Alex’s head to the right so she could see her left ear better. “From her ear...We may have to transfer her to another hospital..”
“Why? Does she have internal bleeding?” Gabriel panicked a bit.
“She might. I’ll go get a doctor.” The nurse said, then hurried out of the room.
Gabriel looked Alex over, then placed two fingers on her forehead to see the damage. He frowned when he realized he was right, she was bleeding. He assumed the burns were the cause, but at this rate she wouldn’t be able to make it to another hospital.
He healed her again, but this time he put all of his strength into it. Gabriel wasn’t worried about himself, or how much strength he’d have left over, he just wanted to stop the bleeding.
“S-Sir?” The nurse returned, looking at Gabriel with a confused expression. Her attention was focused on his glowing hand, and the fact that Alex wasn’t bleeding from her ears anymore.
“Oh..uhm…” Gabriel quickly removed his hand and looked at the nurse awkwardly.
“Are you an angel?” The nurse looked amazed now.
“Yeah…But you won’t remember this.” Gabriel teleported in front of her and placed two fingers on her head, putting her to sleep and wiping her memory before she could react.
“G-Gabe?” Alex sat up in bed, holding her head in pain.
“Hey, how you feeling?” Gabriel walked back over to stand beside her bed.
“Like shit.”
“You’ll be okay.” Gabriel assured.
“Thanks, Dr.House.” Alex sneered.
“See, you’re back to your old self already.”
Alex smiled, “Haha, real funny…” She paused for a few moments, then said, “How long am I going to be human?”
“I’m not sure. Shouldn’t be too long. But you’ll have to get used to sleeping and eating regularly.” Gabriel sat across from Alex on the bed.
“Oh, fun.” Alex sighed. “And I’m going to be an emotional wreck the entire time as well.”
“Why? We made up?”
“I don’t know.” Alex shrugged. “I want to make it up to you somehow.”
“Well, there’s one way you can start,” Gabriel smirked.
Alex chuckled lightly and rolled her eyes, “Oh really?” She smiled and pulled Gabriel into a kiss. Gabriel tried to deepen it, but Alex pulled away. “Not right now. You try anything and I’d probably break.” Alex laughed a bit.
Gabriel pouted, “Yeah...I know. But you’re gonna owe me.”
“That’s fine.” Alex smirked, kissing the archangel again.
