Chapter 39

Andra and Savannah's eyes locked as Savannah moved across the room toward them. She looked as she did before she died. "She's here Cameron," Andra whispered.

"Where?" Cameron asked.

Andra couldn't believe it he didn't see her.

Cal and Theo came to stand at the bottom of the stairs with them and having heard Andra tried desperately to see what she was seeing but to no avail.

"There's a shadow figure with you guys," Owen said running into the foyer with them. "It's moving right towards you."

"Where is she An?" Cameron asked again.

"She's right here," Andra said looking into Savannah's beautiful smiling face as the dead girl put her hand out and touched Andra's face lightly.

"Come with me." She said.

Cameron watched in horror as Andra's eyes rolled up and her nose began to bleed. She began to convulse going over sideways as she did so. Cameron and Cal grabbed her keeping her head from hitting the floor. As they lowered her down her back arched up off the cold damp wood floors. Cameron grabbed her face between his hands and called her name but to no avail as her body continued to shudder and jerk as if she were being electrocuted.

"Andra wake up. Don't do this to me. Not now. Wake up!"

He was inches from her face when he heard her breath catch. He waited watching for the rise and fall of her chest but there was nothing. Her body relaxed and her eyes remained frozen on the ceiling.

Theo screamed her eyes flying to her face. "Cameron she's not breathing! Help her she's not breathing!

Andra could hear Cameron's voice and someone screaming but it seemed like a million miles away. She found herself sitting in the center of Savannah's bed. Savannah was sitting with her. She looked beautiful and healthy.

"I've been waiting for you. I knew you'd come eventually," she said.

"I wasn't so sure. I didn't think we were going to be able to figure it all out."

"Oh no. You did well. You got the major plot points."

"Wait," Andra said. "The major plot points? What did we miss?"

"You were right about Dad and me. We were murdered but you never quite got the motive."

"The motive?

"Yeah," Savannah answered. "Paul was never in love with my mom. He wanted my dad's money. See his wife your grandmother her cancer treatments had put them in the hole financially. His business was on the verge of going under and he was about to claim bankruptcy. Then my mom came along."

"She'd been cheating on my dad for years but Paul intrigued her. He was the first man that had ever turned her down. She'd been making passes at him for a while but he didn't actually do anything about it until his wife got sick. He was using her. She let him borrow money and financed things for him so he didn't lose everything."

"What he hadn't planned on was my mom filing for divorce. My mom made decent money but the lion's share of what they had was my dad's. They had signed a prenup. Paul had to act fast so they decided to kill him using meds that had just been pulled from testing due to causing strokes and major heart issues in the drug trials. My mom stole them from the pharmaceutical company she worked for. It didn't take long for Paul to figure out that dad had left everything to me. From the time he found out my days were numbered. Mom wasn't involved. She was a terrible human being but she loved me. She would have killed him herself if she had known what he was planning. He did it earlier than he had meant to because Denise let it slip that I knew about him and my mom."

"Did he know you were still alive when he left that night?"

"Yes. He did. He came back to check later to make sure I was dead. It's ok though. I took care of it."

"What do you mean you took care of it?" Andra asked.

Savannah smiled mischievously. " Well, I dropped in to visit him several times after I died. You've seen how persuasive I can be. Paul's heart just couldn't handle it. Come to think of it mom didn't handle it real well either."

"You did that to them?" Andra asked her voice incredulous.

"I wasn't going to let them get away with what they did. I didn't even mean to kill him." She said as she got up and began to pace the room. "I was just going to scare him a little."

"Like you scared Cameron and me?"

"Well something like that and you can be angry if you want but it worked. You came didn't you?"

"Yeah we did but you terrorized us."

"I've been here for years," Savannah said an edge to her voice. "No matter what I did no one tried to help or even cared to. Poor Savannah got drunk and fell down the stairs. Not one person looked any deeper than that. They could have. I wasn't the only person that knew about their affair but when my dad died, when I died no one spoke up. I did what I needed to do."

"I'm sorry that happened to you," Andra said.

"Thank you. It's going to be ok now though."

"What do you mean?"

"Paul got what was coming to him but my mom's still out there. So is yours for that matter. This is as much their fault as it was his and I'm going to make sure they pay as I have."

"Your mom is already paying and mine feels so much guilt over what happened. I talked to her about it."

"Guilt!" Savannah screamed. "I'm sorry I take it all back because she feels guilty for what she did. Savannah said sarcastically. "I'm sorry Andra. It's not enough. It will never be enough. Not after what I've been through. I'll punish her, In fact, it's already started."

"What has?" Andra asked fear and frustration mingling in her voice.

"You didn't think me picking you was a coincidence, did you? I knew who you were from the beginning. Being here for so long has made me strong, especially now but in the beginning, I was weak like you are. Did you know that everytime I brought you here you were separating from your body for a short time? You didn't did you I can tell by the look on your face. Every time it got a little easier. While you're here your body is back there like an empty vessel just waiting for someone to claim it."

Andra started to get a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach. "What are you talking about?"

"Andra I really thought you were smarter than this. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to stick around and explain it. The longer we're here the harder it's going to be for either of us to go back."

"Savannah no," Andra called as Savannah started for the door. She started up off the bed and stumbled before falling to the ground her legs tingly and weak. "Don't worry you'll get you're strength back. I'm sorry about this Andra. You're a good kid." With that, she opened the door and slipped out closing it firmly behind her and cutting off Andra's screams.

Cameron pressed his mouth down onto Andra's watching her chest rise and fall as he kept air flowing into her lungs. Owen watched from the doorway of the living room while Theo sobbed into Cal's chest at the foot of the stairs. The storm had subsided. Owen had dialed 911 but at the moment due to serious street flooding and a pile-up on the highway, the ambulance had been delayed.

Andra had been out for over five minutes now, "Come on An," he whispered tears streaming down his cheeks as he forced air into her unresponsive chest once more. As he pulled back Andra's back arched up off the floor and she started to cough rolling to one side.

He lifted her into a sitting position and pulled her to him laughing as tears of joy rolled down his cheeks. "You scared me to death," he said. "I thought we'd lost you."

The small group surrounded her patting her on the back stroking her hair and telling her how happy they were that she was ok. "Give her a little room," Cameron said. "She needs air."

Andra looked up at him. Her eyes were watering and red-rimmed and her voice was hoarse and breathless. "He killed her for the money," she whispered.

"What do you mean?" He asked

"They were broke. He lost everything because of his wife's cancer treatments. He killed Donald and Savannah to get his hands on Donald's money."

"I'll make sure everyone knows just rest, ok?"

She nodded just as red and white lights began to flash through the windows.

"The ambulance is here," Owen said. Cameron helped her up and to the door as Owen and the others started gathering their things together. Cameron hoped that Owen, Theo, and Cal would be able to make a quick escape before anyone could get them for trespassing. There wasn't much hope for himself or Andra but maybe the others could slide by.

The paramedics had already made it to the front porch with the stretcher and Cameron watched as they helped Andra get settled. "It's finally over," he said.

"Not quite yet but it will be very soon," she answered smiling up at him her eyes flashing a brilliant blue.
