Chapter 38

"Alright people." Andra started after hearing the familiar click that told her that they had gone live. "As you can see we're changing things up a little. Due to the weather I've been informed that we're gonna be here awhile. As you've seen we've already experienced a great deal of activity tonight. I'm gonna change gears here for a minute. It's storytime. We've been keeping an eye on your comments as promised and we've had a lot of questions about where we are. So here goes."

She looked away from the camera for just a second. her eyes met Cameron's and he gave her a thumbs up. Turning back to the camera she started again.

"I'm standing in the home of a teenage girl named Savannah Miles. To be more precise I'm standing in the foyer of her home in the exact spot where she died. If you search Savannah online, you won't find much about her. Especially not in her hometown papers. Savannah's death was ruled accidental by the coroner, but my friends and I have come across some information suggesting that Savannah was murdered. We're hoping by being here and telling her story tonight that maybe we can put a spotlight on her case and help Savannah receive the justice she deserves."

Suddenly Andra could hear Theo through her headset. "Andra we've got activity in Savannah's room."

"Ok, guys someone just cut in to let me know that we have activity. Let's go take a look at what you guys at home are seeing."

Andra made her way into the living room with Cal following close behind using the camera's light to see in the dark house. Theo was standing at the table staring intently down at the monitors.

"So what have we got Theo?"

Theo ran the video back thirty seconds and then enlarged the image of the room into full screen. As Andra watched a dark shadow figure moved into the room and then slowly onto the bed as if it were sitting. Small orbs shot around the room even after the figure winked out of existence.

"That's not all," she said hitting a few keys and bringing up the video streaming from the office. She repeated the process of running back the video and then enlarging the screen. Andra could see flashes of light in the room from the storm outside. The rain blowing in through the broken window was visible even bathed in the green and black glow of the night vision camera. She was unsure of what Theo had wanted her to see until she noticed the large heavy mahogany desk sliding slowly toward the camera. Andra's mouth dropped open.

"How heavy is that thing?"

"I have no idea." Theo answered. "but either way it's too heavy for it to be the wind causing that."

"Guys," Owen said in a shaky voice. "You might want to take a look at this. We're picking something up on the Kinect camera too."

They all turned toward the second monitor. Owen had thrown it to the main screen so the people watching at home could see it. There was the outline of a figure at the bottom of the stairs laying in a prone position."

"Oh crap." she heard Theo whisper in a shaky voice from behind her. "That's where she died isn't it."

"Yeah," Andra answered. A shiver ran through her as she watched the small green figure twitch and then blink in and out of existence. This is not happening she thought to herself.

"I think we should spread out and try to document as much of this as possible," Owen said.

"I agree," Andra said. "I want to keep you on the monitors down here. We can set Cal's camera up in the foyer. I want him and Theo to check out Savannah's room. That is if you guys are comfortable with that?" Theo looked over at Cal and they both gave her a thumbs up at the same time. "Good. Cameron and I will stay at the foot of the stairs. We need to get her story out."

"Alright. "For my people watching at home," she said speaking into the camera. "Things are getting a little wild around here as evidenced by the video footage you've seen so far. We're gonna spread out and see if we can get a read on everything that's happening."

They quickly set up the camera in the entryway keeping it away from the puddles that were beginning to appear around a couple of the broken windows. Owen took his place at the monitors and Cal came over the headset to let them know that they were in position. "If you want to Cal you guys go ahead and ask a few questions. See if anything happens."

"We're on it," he replied.

Cameron and Andra readied themselves at the bottom of the staircase. "Alright, it looks like everyone is in position and ready to go so let's get back to our story. What we've learned in our research is that Savannah grew up in this house with her father and mother Donald and Gloria Miles. Local legend says that Donald passed away from a stroke and that Savannah distraught from his death went off the rails. Quitting the various sports she played, cutting off her friends, and becoming increasingly withdrawn."

Cameron stepped forward then as they had rehearsed. "Legend also suggests that Savannah was depressed after realizing that her boyfriend and best friend were seeing each other but we have found evidence in Savannah's own hand proving that she not only knew they were together she supported their relationship."

"Exactly," Andra said. "Now as the story goes Savannah was so distraught over her father's death and the revelation of her friend's deception that she became drunk at a party returned home and in her inebriated state fell down these very stairs to her death. As you can imagine as happens in most situations like this the house has gained a reputation for being haunted."

"And as you can also see," Cameron added. "some legends are true. We have found out in the past several days that there are several parts of this story that just aren't."

"So guys you have stuck with us this far. We'll just cut to the chase. Our research has turned up evidence that Savannah's mother Gloria Miles was having an affair with a man named Paul Benson. My grandfather for all intents and purposes. Paul and Gloria killed Donald. When Paul discovered that Savannah knew what he had done he ended her life by pushing her down this very staircase behind me and then leaving her for dead." Andra stepped back so that the audience could get a better view of the wide ornate staircase.

"Paul has been dead now just a year less than Savannah. He died from a massive heart attack in 1997. Gloria is still alive but not competent to stand trial and so Savannah's story has never been told truthfully until now. We're hoping that getting the truth out there will help Savannah rest once and for all."

Just as she finished speaking there was a loud crash from the office as the desk slammed into the door. This was quickly followed by a shriek from upstairs.

"Cal, Theo, are you guys ok up there?"

"We're good. We heard the scream too but that wasn't either one of us. It definitely came from up here though."

"The activity is off the charts right now," Owen said. I have the shadow figure back in the room with Cal and Theo. It's pacing in front of the closet. There are orbs everywhere and that crash you just heard was the desk almost coming through the office door. Cameron the Kinect camera is picking up something on the stairs. You guys should see the comments they're blowing up. "

"Cameron, have you still got that recorder?" Andra asked.

"Right here," he answered holding it up.

"Turn it on. Let's try to talk to her."

He hit the button and turning toward the stairs Andra began to speak.

"Is that you Savannah? Are you here?"

Just then there was a crackle over the headset and then Wonderwall was blaring in Andra's ears. She yanked it off and saw Cameron doing the same thing.

"What was that?" Cal screamed running out onto the landing with Theo close behind.

"It's her," Andra answered. "That's the song that was playing the night she fell. She's s here."

Cameron started rolling the recorder back just as Owen began yelling from the living room. "Guys there's serious movement in the office." Andra barely registered what he was saying because Cameron had hit play on the recorder. Andra heard herself asking if Savannah was there and then suddenly the silence was filled by a voice raspy from years of disuse. It was repeating Andra's name over and over again getting louder each time. It began to sound like a chant.

Andra put her hands over her ears trying to block out the sound falling to her knees even as the office door blew inward and the desk ricocheted across the room slamming into the wall as if it weighed no more than a child's Lincoln Log. Andra screamed and Cameron ran to her. Lightning flared illuminating the room and as it did Andra saw her standing in the doorway of her mother's office. Savannah had arrived.
