I Don't Belong Here

Lyra

I just have a feeling you don't belong here.

The same words had been repeating inside my head. Over and over. Again and again. Repeating themselves until I felt insane.

Of course, Gray was right. I didn't belong here. At all. This wasn't my home, this wasn't even my world. I didn't even know this place actually existed. But his words still unnerved me.

I wasn't sure why they bothered me so much. Maybe it was the fact that I'd rather be here opposed to my real home. Back with school and stuff, I always felt like I was missing something. But when I watched Fairy Tail, I knew everything was going to be okay. Now that I was actually here, I guess I felt like this was my real home.

"Lyra." Gray snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked up at him to see him frowning, "Weren't the others supposed to be here?"

Looking around, showed that it was already dark. I opened my mouth to answer - even though I didn't really have one - when I heard an explosion coming from in town. I turned around to see a big ball of fire heading towards the ground. It lit up the night sky and blotted out the stars until it hit the ground and another explosion occurred.

"Nastu?" I asked, glancing at Gray. He only rolled his eyes, nodding. "Well," I sighed, "Let's go see what he's found."

Somehow while trying to find Nastu, I got distracted by a couple things and ended up losing Gray. And the explosions were no longer happening so I was completely lost.

I was walking around trying to find a way to find the others, when I heard a scream. I heard someone say something about pervert and a ghost. I walked towards the scream, but lost my way again. Curse this place and the fact that this was the first time I was here.

I groaned, kicking at a rock. The streets were now mostly empty. And I still wasn't sure where I was going. I was too scared to find out if my magic could help.

I suddenly saw a flash of blue light and I could hear talking. I wasn't sure what was being said, but I figured it probably had something to do with magic so I walked towards it.

As I got closer, I felt myself realize that I knew that voice. I knew it. I wasn't sure who it was but-

"Maya!" I yelled. "Maya! Hey!"

Running. She was there! That was her!

Yelling. She had to hear me. She was literally right there. Why can't she hear me? Is someone else with her??

Tripping. I scrapped my knees on the ground, yelling out. Dammit. I wasn't this clumsy. What did I trip over?

And that's how I got caught up in a fight. This guy started thinking he was all that, which I didn't like. Then he said he had stolen some stuff, so I figured I might as well try to teach him a lesson.

That wasn't working out very well.

It's working fine. You just need to control your magic a bit more. Try using a sound shield. 'Cause that fireball is about to hit you.

I did as told, going on instinct. I crossed my arms to shape like an 'X', praying it would work. From where my arms connected, a shield sprung forth, playing the song N.M.E by Set It Off. The sound shield stood guard in front of me, making the flames flow behind me like a wave. I lowered my arms, causing my shield to flicker out of existence. I could help but gape at what I had just done. Did I really do that??

Yes, of course you did.

Shut up, I told my inner mind. I knew I needed to attack back so I held out my hand flat, my fingers spread apart. A shot of sound came out through my hand. I felt it start at my heart and wind it's way around my body until the vibration was enough to hurt. Then I let it fly. An awesome guitar solo sprung out.

I watched as it flew from my hand and cut into the man I was attacking. He gave a yelp of surprise and held his side. He suddenly let out a roar of pain. "Why does it burn?!"

I smirked a little. Because karma's a bitch, that's why. I didn't stop there. I continued with the attacks until he was laying on the ground. He promised he would give the things he stole back, but I didn't believe him. I imagined a cage of vibrations and trapped him in it.

I felt a little proud of myself. I wasn't from this world at all and here I was doing amazing. I could protect myself and attack other people.

Suddenly I felt light. I watched as my feet lifted off the ground and I rose into the air. My heart stopped. No. This wouldn't happen again.

Not this time.

I willed myself to stop, to fall. To slow down, to gather my thoughts, to at least allow my feet to touch the ground again. But I rose. Slowly, but I rose.

No!

I thought of the man I had been attacking and saw that his cage was closing in on him. His eyes were wide, as he stared at me. "Stop! I don't want to die! I just stole some things! You can have them!"

Jewelry and money spilled from his bag. It littered the stoned roadway. I watched the moon make the contents glitter. But the cage kept closing in.

I was now floating above the cage, a bubble of magic forming around me. I saw the man in front of me, push against the vibrating bars. He was running out of room. He was going to be killed.

I reached out my hand. Stop! This isn't what I wanted! I wanted to help!

"Information! Is that what you want?!" The man yelled, "I'm from the Guild, Maxxheart. We're small, we just like to cause trouble. I'll leave Maxxheart!" His eyes were wide, "Please I don't want to die!"

I heard his pleading. I heard it. I knew he was telling the truth. And I knew I couldn't kill him. I focused. Hard. I would keep that man alive. I would not kill a person!

I forced my other hand out of the circle of magic that was slowly becoming bigger. I closed my eyes and imagined the vibrations of the cage stopping. I held out my hands, flat out and fingers together. I imagined the cage disappearing. I imagined the man getting away.

And I let out a scream of pain.

My magic.

My own magic.

Was fighting me.

I felt the magic circle work it's way up my arms, burning them so I had to pull them close to my chest. It then healed me, so my arms no longer burned, and forced me to pull my legs up. I was in a ball, the magic circle still around me. It was going to cause destruction. I knew it. My magic wanted to control me.

And I didn't have the strength to fight it.

I watched as the bars closed in closer to the man, closing down on the little room that he had. He was in pain I could tell. He couldn't move anymore, only accept that he was about to be killed. I heard him give a roar of pain. I shut my eyes. I was killing him.

"Lyra!"

A voice screamed out from the chaos. The chaos that was controlling me. Making me do things I didn't want. I felt the voice wrap around me and pull me close. I felt safe. I was safe.

No.

I am safe.

I opened my eyes to see Erza, in her fire armour. She was looking at me, her eyes holding my gaze. "Lyra! You have to take control!"

I shook my head violently, tears pricking my eyes. I would never be as great as her. I could never be that strong. I was just Lyra. From another world. I didn't belong here.

"Lyra! If you don't, you're going to kill that thief! Do you want to kill him?!" Her eyes had determination in them.

I shook my head again, less violently this time. "I-I can't control it."

Erza nodded at me. "Yes, you can! Because I believe in you!"

Something inside me snapped. I felt myself suddenly gain control of myself and I snapped my arms out from the bubble I was forced in. I saw the man, screaming from the pain. And I threw the bars of sound back. He was still in a cage, but he had plenty of room to move around.

I willed myself to touch the ground and I landed gently. I saw the man, looking up at me in fear. He couldn't move his arms.

I walked over to the cage. The bars made a hole for me to walk through. When I walked through them, they closed behind me.

"Please!" The man suddenly cried out, closing his eyes in fear. "Don't hurt me anymore!"

I slowly walked over, trying not to scare him. He dropped to the ground, like he was giving up. I was close enough to touch him now. So I did. And he snapped his eyes open to watch. I gently touched his arms and the magic took hold of me again. This time, it healed. I sang a song of healing. It wasn't in English. But I knew it was meant for healing.

When I stopped singing, his arms were good as new. The thief looked at me in shock. He slowly wiggled his fingers in front of his face so he could watch them move.

"I'm sorry." I whispered, stepping away from him. "I'm so sorry."
