33| The decision
Soobin had now wandered for several minutes out in front of his older cousin's bedroom door, wondering if he should just walk in. He was concluded to find the red-haired girl who had so suddenly attracted his curiosity. He wanted to find out who she really was.
But his problem right now was that it was not him who had access to the information. And Yeonjun should not suspect what he was running around doing. Soobin would keep it as his own secret. So the possibility right now was just that he should sneak in while the older one slept. He looked up at the wall clock he could just make out from where he was standing. Well. He should have enough time.
Slowly and quietly, he opened the door and leaned forward so that his eyes could just peek inside. Yeonjun was still asleep, and a whole relief washed over the boy. He exhaled and turned his head, but his eyes suddenly collided with two shiny greens. As soon as the relief had reached him, a shock went through his whole body and he jumped back. Who the hell was this stranger?
"Who the fuck are you?!" Soobin spat out and opened the door again after he in pure shock had closed it.
The two bright green eyes drilled into Soobin's, and the boy swallowed tightly. The one standing in front of him was wide and broader than himself, though not taller, had raven-black hair that messily lay around his head. Soobin's eyes wandered down to his face, where the boy's eyes shone green. An almost completely full moon was placed in both eyes, and his finely shaped face, where there were also several earrings in his ears, was not turned kindly towards Soobin. The wolf in front of him screamed dominance and Soobin had a hard time keeping his eyes on him.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" the hunter asked again, this time a little gentler in tone.
"That's none of your business," replied the wolf with his deep voice that would be able to kill one, just with one word.
A shudder went down along the hunter's spine. He was not at all prepared for such a deep voice.
"What are you doing here? Your cousin is sleeping," the wolf gave the question back to the still shocked hunter.
Soobin had to come up with a lie now, "J-I just had to wake up .. Y-yeonjun hyung."
The wolf stared at him deep into his big brown eyes, "You are lying."
The two words made Soobin look away, he could not keep his gaze on the wolf anymore. Without the hunter noticing, Yeonjun had woken up and had sneaked around behind the wolf.
"Soobin what are you doing here?"
The voice made the hunter immediately look up with both shock and a tinge of anger in his gaze, "What I'm doing here? Tsk, what is a werewolf doing in our house?! Damn, we are hunters, we are not meant to be friends with our enemies! Do you understand that Yeonjun!?"
Soobin was deeply angry at Yeonjun's lame decisions he had made in the recent weeks. He had really just had enough of it, and now he demanded an explanation.
Geonhak put an arm protectively around Yeonjun and growled at the younger hunter.
The anger bubbling in Soobin had made him feel more confident and he rolled his eyes at the wolf in front of him, "Tsk, wow I'm scared now."
Geonhak put more pressure on his deep growl and his teeth were on the verge of showing up. Yeonjun tightened his grip on Geonhak's arm as if to tell him to hold himself back a little.
"Soobin, the kitchen now!" said the silver-haired boy in a commanding voice, which the younger one happily listened to.
What was Soobin doing? He should have just killed the wolf right away, instead of negotiating with it.
_____
When Yeonjun and Geonhak entered the kitchen, the wolf's hand lying on the hunter's shoulder, they found Soobin sitting with an annoyed look painted across his face and a coffee cup in his one hand. On the chairs next to Soobin, sat two other boys, younger, whom Geonhak could immediately smell was a vampire and another a hunter. Yeonjun's little brother. They both stood up, hand in hand, at the sight of the wolf and the hunter finally intending to join them after Yeonjun had changed his clothes into his typical hunter clothes. Black leather trousers, a black long-sleeved sweater that sat tighter so you could see his muscular upper body, and a belt where all his various objects were fastened together with his blade. On his feet, he had already put on his black boots.
Beomgyu had been given a slight shock that his big brother was suddenly wearing his work clothes as he had not worn them for several days, almost several weeks.
"Hyyung! Good to see you fresh again!" exclaimed the little brother, embracing Yeonjun.
The slight breeze that blew as Beomgyu had moved, hit Geonhak's sensitive sense of smell, and he quickly got a picture of what the situation looked like. The vampire's smell was mixed with Beomgyu's.
The blonde boy let go of Yeonjun and looked up at Geonhak with a smile while his hand quickly found the vampire's again.
"I'm Choi Beomgyu, Yeonjun's little brother and this", he looked over at the vampire, "Is Kang Taehyun, my boyfriend."
Geonhak looked studying over at the vampire, who, smiling with an invisible blush in his cheeks, looked up at him. The wolf had never seen a vampire behave the way Taehyun did. Completely innocent and with small movements turned lovingly towards another. Vampires typically did not tend to stick to one person as the smell of blood would quickly draw them towards others. This was atypical but wildly sweet. And then Taehyun seemed so young that he could not possibly have been a vampire for a long time. His control over himself was incredibly impressive for Geonhak.
The corner of the wolf's mouth curled up to a small smile, and he took the hand that Beomgyu had held out, "Kim Geonhak."
The two boys were also shocked by Geonhak's deep voice but said nothing. They sat down again on their respective chairs next to Soobin, still with their fingers intertwined. Yeonjun even pulled out his own chair, which was in front of his cousin, but before he could sit down, Geonhak pulled him to sit on his lap. A heat shot up into the hunter's cheeks as it dawned on him where he was now sitting. It was just before he could hear the wolf glee him into his ear as he put his head in the hook of Yeonjun's shoulder.
Soobin cleared his throat and looked up at his elders with threatening eyes. "Do I get an explanation for this?"
Yeonjun thoughtfully held his gaze down, and then slowly lifted it up on his cousin, "Soobin, I'm going to end our collaboration with Jung Hoseok."
Soobin lost his lower jaw, "What ?!" he shouted.
Taehyun and Beomgyu were also shocked by Yeonjun's new decision. Yeonjun remained silent.
"YOU CAN'T JUST DO THAT?!! WHAT DO YOU THINK HE WILL DO TO US??!" Soobin stopped himself and snapped his angry gaze at Geonhak, "You! What a pack are you from?!"
Geonhak returned his gaze and pursed his lips before responding with clenched teeth, "To moon."
Soobin hit his hands on the table, so that the sound resounded around the room, while he got up, "I knew it! You come from the pack we have been told to kill. The only thing you do here is trying to save your own ass!! CURSED DOG!!!"
Yeonjun's hold on the wolf's wrist was now so tight that his hand was completely white from anemia. He was really trying to hold Geonhak back. The wolf growled loudly at Soobin, who stood furiously pointing a finger at him.
"Soobin .. That was not okay to say. If I let him go now, what do you think will happen to you then?"
"I don't care! Now I'm leaving myself to complete the mission we should have completed several weeks ago. And then you have to find out for yourself whether you are on my side, or the butcher's," Soobin replied hard and hissing at the door.
That was the push to go before Geonhak stormed after him. Yeonjun had no chance to stop him.
The wolf jumped on Soobin, who in a last-ditch attempt to save himself, had thrown a knife in the direction of the deceived wolf. But he hit far from. The green glowing wolf grabbed the hunter by the neck and slung him as hard as he could against the wall, with his face first.
"Geonhak!!"
The blow caused Soobin to erupt in pain, and a bloody mass flowed as a reaction out of his nose, staining the white wall red. He suddenly felt completely dizzy and he had difficulty breathing. Geonhak squeezed even more around his neck, pushing him harder against the wall so it pressed against his nose, and even more drops of blood rolled down the wall. It almost sounded like the nose was slowly breaking into smaller pieces. A mixture of gasping for air and a groan in pain escaped Soobin's half-open mouth.
The wolf leaned menacingly towards him and whispered dangerously into his ear with his deep, dark voice, "You do not touch them, do you understand?"
He squeezed more around his neck, growling meanwhile, his teeth stood white and bared. Soobin's hands flew up to the wolf's while he pitifully tried to remove them from his airways.
"Geonhak, release him, you are suffocating him!" Yeonjun shouted as he himself grabbed the wolf's strong arm. But the wolf did not move, not even when Beomgyu and Taehyun grabbed him. He was way too strong. Yeonjun panicked when he saw how Soobin turned blue in the head and collapsed more the weaker he became. The silver-haired hunter reached out for Geonhak's face and put all his strength in while he turned his face. The green eyes met his own chocolate-colored tear-filled eyes, and the wolf immediately let go of the tight grip around Soobin. It was as if just looking into Yeonjun's panicked eyes made him come to himself again.
Soobin fell limply to the floor, numb throughout his body. Blood dripped down from his face and his eyes were closed. A tear rolled down Yeonjun's cheek as he took a shaky breath. It was close. Too close. The wolf licked his lips and looked down.
"I hope you learned something from that, Soobin," said the eldest hunter, removing the rolling tear.
"I'm taking over to Hoseok now," he continued, walking toward the front door.
Geonhak followed silently without looking down at the painful hunter at all. When he found the hunter standing leaning against the house wall on the other side of the door, a wave of guilt washed over him. If only he could have controlled his anger.
The green glowing approached the hunter and bent down a little, in an attempt to make eye contact. But Yeonjun kept his eyes down, and Geonhak bit his lip. He slipped his hand under the hunter's chin and lifted his head. His chocolate-colored eyes met his green, and Geonhak swore he would never ever get tired of looking into them. A thin layer of a glistening liquid filled the hunter's eyes.
"Yeonjun .. I'm sorry about what happened ... Sorry", the wolf said quietly, his facial expression serious but also hurt.
Yeonjun shook his head, so his gray locks bounced softly around his head, "It's not your fault. Soobin is just not always fully aware of what the consequences of his actions are."
The hunter gently placed his hand on the other boy's shoulder. The scent of wild berries swirled around Geonhak's nose, causing him to relax more and blink his eyes countless times. Did he dream?
Yeonjun smiled and grabbed the wolf's hand still holding his chin, "Come on, now we'll find Hoseok together."
The boy tried very hard to get his thoughts on something other than whether it was the right thing he was about to do. Should he really go on the opposite side of his cousin just because he unconsciously felt something for a wolf? It sounded completely insane to say, but soon he and Soobin would be considered each other's enemies.
