Chapter 9: The resistance
Eren p.o.v
We walked the empty streets in silence, just looking around and asking ourselves what kind of monster did this. I stopped and picked up a particularly burned doll off the floor and felt something instantly after making contact...sadness as if the doll itself was crying. "Objects can hold very powerful emotions." I looked up at Mia, "Even memories." She put her hand on the doll and closed her eyes and immediately images and scenes began flashing in my head.
Sweetie we have to go now!
But what about daddy?
Your not listening, daddy is gone its only us now you must understand that we aren't normal Abigail were different and they don't like that. They'll kill you...
The girl in the vision began crying as she held her doll in her arms.
Open the door! There was banging on the door and you could hear screaming and gunshots from the hallway. The mom grabbed the girl and pulled her towards the window.
Okay you have to leave, find help.
What about you?
Don't look back sweetheart, you got that.
She began sniffling. Mommy...
Its the only way I can keep you safe. The men kicked open the door. Now go!
The girl pulled herself onto the ledge and jumped to the sidewalk. She ran off crying until she tripped and dropped her doll.
Hey little girl it isn't save to be out in the open. A guy peeked from his spot in the alley, he had short brown hair and glasses. My name's Carver and yours?
Abigail...Suddenly there was gunshots. The men were walking down the street and had spotted her. The guy quickly ran to the girl and grabber her.
Everything's going to be okay Abigail...I promise.
The vision disappeared and I looked down. "This must of been her doll."
"Yeah..." Mia looked up, "We should get moving."
"And go where Mia, there's nothing left here."
"We have to find Emily, or survivors at least."
"Mia what survivors!" I spun around, "There's no one here, no one could survive something like this it's completely impossible."
"Nothing's impossible Eren, they said that about us until we broke out, They said we would of never escape except were still here. You have to believe." Mia started to walk off.
I sighed, "Mia Look i'm sorry but..."
Suddenly I saw a girl running in the distance, taking cover by cars and debris. Mia gave me a "I told you so" look and ran towards the person. "Hey you!" She yelled out, "Wait up!"
I shook my head and ran after her. The girl looked up at us and seemed to have gotten nervous, she took out a pistol. "Stay back!"
Mia and me stopped immediately. She looked up and walked closer. Suddenly Mia's eyes opened wide, "Emily?"
"How do you know my..." The girl stopped a few feet away, "You made it out..." For a while they stood there in silence in shock until finally they rushed to hug eachother. "Oh my God Mia!"
"Emily..." Mia looked at her with a giant smile, "I heard Atlanta was destroyed, I thought you were dead."
"I almost was, they tried to tell me to leave but somehow I knew-I knew you would of made it here."
I stood on the side observing in silence until I was noticed. Finally Emily turned to me and smiled shyly. Mia turned to me, "Oh this is Eren, he helped me get out."
"Hi..." She looked at the floor and began messing with her long shiny blonde hair, it was as if she never saw a guy before and she I was amazed on how fast she went from pulling a gun on us ready to fire to this shy and cute girl. Her eyes sparkled a shining baby blue and from her height she looked about fifteen maybe.
"What's with the get up?" Mia asked with a eyebrow raised. She wore a white dress under her camaflouge hoodie and had brown female boots on her feet.
"All we can find, there's not much left."
"We?" I asked.
She nodded, "There's a whole group of survivors hiding under the city, were trying to find a way out but the train that takes people to Georgia is heavily guarded."
"But that's how me and Mia got here."
"You must of taken the East rail, that train made its last stop a few hours ago and it's not coming back maybe that's why it wasn't guarded."
"Why isn't it running?"
"Too many people maybe..." She looked at Mia, "You have to meet everyone there really good people." They began walking ahead and left me to trail behind as they caught up for loss time. Now and then Emily would put her hair over her ear as a excuse to look back at me. I had no idea why but I got a weird feeling in my stomach, similar to the feeling I got when I seen Mia for the first time.
We had finally got to a building, inside was a giant hole that lead straight down hidden under some cleverly organized ply wood and a carpet. Emily dug in the fireplace and pulled out some rope and threw one side off the side of the hole. "Who's first?"
"Is that rope long enough?" I asked looking down at the pitch black view.
"I've done this before you know." Mia laughed at Emily's comment and went down first. She inched herself down til she was completely out of sight. The was a small silence until she yelled here from the bottom. Emily looked at me, "Your up."
"How are you getting down?"
She grinned, "Have you forgotten we have powers?"
Shocker was I really had. I inched down to the hole and dropped myself next to Mia, I looked around and seen a giant cavern. "Here..." I said. Emily came down and somehow commanded the rope to coil itself back up and put itself back in its hiding spot before covering the hole.
I ignited a fire in my palm to light the way. "Amazing telekenesis right?" Emily skipped ahead and walked us through the cavern.
We finally made it to a large steel door. Emily knocked on it in some kind of pattern and a guy opened a slit to see who it was. "Who's these guys?"
She looked back at us, "There survivors Jeremy, why else would they be here."
The door opened up, "Have you found anything?"
"Empty just like yesterday. I'm telling you there's nothing left."
The guy looked at Mia, "Nothing huh..." he mumbled. He turned around, "Follow me." He started walking.
The place was full of people, they kept running back and forth, many were gathered at a table with a big map on it and some chess pieces. "What's going on here, did something happen?"
"While you were gone the boss decided to go top side and get some Intel on the soldiers position but he never came back which means were planning for the worse."
"Which is what?" Mia asked.
"He's been captured in which its up to us to get him back, he's the key to getting out of this city without him we wouldn't of been here."
"Why wasn't he partnered up?" Emily asked.
"For the same reason you weren't, its faster and more efficient to snoop around the city when you don't got people to watch out for."
"Who are these two?" I turned to see a girl walking down the stairs.
"There survivors no need to freak out."
"I bet this is your doing Emily, I would be lying if I say I'm not surprised there were any survivors left." She stopped in front of us and put her hand out, "I'm Alison." As soon as I touched her hand there was a powerful electrical charge.
I let go and stepped back, "What the..."
"Alison is stronger than a normal evolved." Jeremy explained.
"Wait what vision?" Alison asked.
"Boss we got a location on him!"
Alison ran over. I turned to Emily, "She was one of the four people Henry saved the day Atlanta went to hell, he was her hero and therefore ended up being second in command, don't worry she knows what she's doing her mind is on a college level."
We walked over to the monitor and seen a man with short hair and glasses hiding behind a car right before soldiers came and held a gun to his head. "Cameras still work here?"
"We installed a couple, only the ones we could save." Jeremy said.
"That's enough." Alison turned around, "Okay we need every man either here guiding us through or outside helping us get our leader, our mission is to save our fearless leader Henry Carver. So let's move out, we don't have time to lose." Everyone cheered and ran outside while a guy handed out guns and gear. Alison turned to me and Mia, "We don't have room for stowaways So you either find with us or leave now."
"Alison!" Emily cried.
"I mean it." She walked off.
Jeremy walked next to us, "A little piece of advice, just do what she says it's way better then being out there, trust me."
I just hoped the leader were planning on saving was better at leading then she was. I turned around and spotted a small figure in the distance, in my head I could hear crying.
You have to be alive...you have to...you can't leave me...
Jasper p.o.v
"I'll ask this one more damn time and I expect a answer." I watched the boss's right hand man, Harley I think his name was, as he walked around one of the low life evolved. He was tied to a chair and bleeding from his mouth, his face looked like shit with nothing but gashes and bruises. His eye was swelling up from that last punch he took, the guy looked out of it as if he was near death. Harley grabbed the guy's head and lifted it to look straight in the prisoners eyes, "WHERE ARE THE OTHERS HIDING?!" The guy had wore glasses, now the glasses were no more then a broken frame and shattered glass.
"I-I...d-don't..." He turned his head to the side and spit up a big pool of blood.
"I think he had..."
"I'LL TELL YOU WHEN HE HAD ENOUGH!" He yelled out at me. He took a breath, "He just needs a little motivation that's all...ahh fuck..." Harley held his side and stumbled to his chair. "Damn stitches...Jasper grab me the first aid and make it snappy I got questioning to do." He turned to the rebel and smiled.
I nodded and walked out the room. Apparently Harley was normal once, he used to work for the CrossField insane asylum until two evolved tried to escape and he was attacked, took a hit straight to the side. He would of been dead if he hadn't stopped whatever hit him from hitting his chest but it got damn sure close that's for sure. Nobody knows what actually hit him, not even Harley himself but ever since the wound never healed or not as fast as a normal wound does I say it's because he keeps reopening it but even then it should of healed by now.
Anyway since the two evolved escaped Harley's been appointed to teach the military how to deal with evolved but needless to say he's been on edge since. I never got it, the boss wanted me to learn from him and observe him but all I seen for the past week is his cruelty and lack of self control.
I walked over to the medical room and knocked on the door. The nurse looked at me and smiled, "He's at it again isn't he?" I nodded, "Boy does that guy ever learn?" She turned to the cabinet above the sink and looked around for the first aid.
"I don't think he's even capable of learning." I joked.
She laughed and handed me the first aid kit, "Well tell that bastard that I told him this was the last time I'm fixing his wound." I smiled and nodded before leaving and closing the door behind me.
Suddenly I jumped back when I seen Harley standing over me with a cigarette between his teeth and bloody knuckles, "Took you long enough." He grabbed the first aid kit from my hands.
"What happened to the rebel?" I said, my eyes focused on his bloody knuckles and blood stained shirt.
He looked at me, "Why do you care?" He pushed past me and walked outside.
I turned back down the hall and began sprinting back to the room, I seen men cleaning up the pools of blood on the floor and the stains on the chair. Then suddenly a few men walked out with a body bag. As they walked by I got a look at the tag, it read Henry Carver.
