Hermione was fooling around in the corridor with Ron, well, it was more him to be honest.
She didn't really love him, but she was determined to make it work. Ron might be irritating but he has a good heart, and he's always been there. He deserves that last chance.
Ron kissed Hermione's face off and Hermione kissed him back, ""eww get a room guys." Harry joked as he approached them, Ron pulled Hermione into his arms and giggled into her ear.
She caught Severus' eye as he stood in the doorway opposite, and reached up to give Ron a small kiss. Harry looked over his shoulder to see what Hermione was staring at and saw Professor Snape watching intently. Severus was seething with jealousy, he couldn't bare the thought of that ginger weasels hands roaming her body. She was HIS.

Later that day Hermione was sat at dinner looking miserable, Harry could see something was wrong.
"What's gotten into you?" Harry asked as Hermione slammed her goblet down on the table.
"Ronald" she sighed. "And the truth?" Harry smirked. "Ok, last night in detention. Snape was being an arsehole" she moaned. "In what way other than the usual?" Harry grinned, but deep down he had ideas. Hermione cousins help but snort. "Well put it this way, the past few days he has showed signs that my feelings are reciprocated. And last night he was being cruel, making me wonder what I ever saw in him." Hermione sighed with frustration. "Hermione, I know you have a thing for Snape, and I understand that but I think you probably read too much into the 'signs' you thought you saw." Harry told her honestly. "What like when we kissed?" Hermione quipped.
"YOU WHAT?" Harry shrieked, spitting out his drink. "Are you insane?" He added.
"I was, but I'm not now. It very much in the past I can assure you, I'm gonna make a go of this with Ron." Hermione insisted and Harry nodded, "you'd better Herms, love him or leave him alone. Don't cheat on him" Harry said plainly, and left Hermione sat at the table alone.

When Hermione left the great hall she decided to head back to the Gryffindor dormitories for an early night and some studying. She swung around when a hand pulled on her arm.
"I know what you're trying to do, I know you don't love Ron. You're just trying to make me jealous, but it's NOT working!" Severus seethed. "I'm not trying to do anything, I'm just trying to make it work with my boyfriend because I'm all out if other options as you well know!" Hermione snapped, pulling her arm away from him. "Hermione, please listen to me. You have got me wrong. You think I don't want you but i...." "Stop! Please, I don't want to hear your reasons" Hermione argued. "I care for you! you must know that? Please? It's just..." Severus tried to explain. "It's just what?" She asked sarcastically, Severus didn't know what to say and stood in silence. "Exactly." She sighed. "Hermione this is ridiculous, if you would just hear me out!" Severus cried out with exasperation. "Severus, there is nothing to hear. I tried to get you to give me a chance, give US a chance. And you made it quite clear that nothing could happen between us, it's only fitting that I choose to give up on you!" That was all she said, and stormed off leaving him stood there, hurt and confused.
