Chapter 9

I finally learned to italicize words and no longer need to use caps! Wooo!!! I'm finally continuing this! This is the chapter where my original species (Fauxes) are described. They will actually be in a different chapter and are just being described here.

--------------------------------------------

~Moon's POV~

"Wake up." Julius shakes me by the shoulders, my hair flying around my face and tickling my cheeks.

"What.." I groggily rise to a sitting position, my eyes focusing on a jumpy Julius. "Jules it's barely five in the morning." I groan before falling back against the violet satin pillow. Obviously shocked that I called him by his family nickname, he calmly sits back on his knees.

"It's your first day of school and my first day back to work! This is jump starting a new chapter of our lives! Soon we'll have the shower for you, your first breeding, report cards and grades and aren't you excited?!" He groans, taking in my lack of expressions as I try to roll back over.

He rushes me out of the lavender bedroom and towards a door down the hall, which swings open to reveal a large bathroom with a blue and green color scheme. Julius seems to enjoy bright colors... "Hurry up!" He pushes me under the stream of hot water, my blush instantly rising as my white T-shirt becomes soaked. Jules strips himself, pulls back the blue dotted curtain, and begins to tear away at the wet fabric sticking to me.

The bathroom isn't the brightest, it's few bulbs beginning to blow out one at a time with a dull pop until we are left in the dark. Julius's hands snake themselves around me, pulling my naked backside to his chest, my hair sticking to my shoulders in wet clumps as he moves it away to rest his head.

"Jules," I turn to face him as three more faucets began to spray us from all sides. A shower purposely meant for more than one person obviously. "I apologize for last night and how I acted that day, I shouldn't of been such a brat to you. I mean it." I say, adverting my eyes from him. The taller man smiles down at me, making sure to keep eye contact or stare at the perspiring walls at all times.

It hasn't exactly hit me that I'm naked and showering with Julius for the second time in my life. It's just that this time is less life or death and pressed for time. I'm a free man with a free will who is choosing to do this. I lather the soap on my washcloth before hurrying with my shower, I had already wasted a good thirty minutes lollygagging around under the burning stream.

Julius stays back while I rush breakfast and brushing my teeth, confused at which toothbrush to use. Had it really been this long since I brushed? Julius giggles at my confusion-a sound that sets my skin ablaze-and points me in the direction of a yellow brush. As Julius brushes his own teeth I comb through my matted locks not even trying to fix it. If I look like a hot mess on the first day of school so be it.

"Do something with that." Julius points to my head, toothbrush dangling from his mouth and towel slipping from his jutted hip. "I'll do it if you want me to." I drown in a blush as Julius sits me down on the toilet, his crotch at my eye level concealed only by a towel. Water rolls down his stomach, evaporating into steam before it even has a chance to hit his towel. He brushes through each and every tangle cautiously before trying to comb through it. The coal strands sticking to my forehead from all the steam in the room.

"Jules..." I mutter. "Jules! We are going to be late if you don't hurry up!" He dresses quickly, still buttoning his jeans as he dashes down the small set of stairs. I grab the light backpack as I jog through the door, starting to sprint when Julius screams the time. "Do we have everything?" I pant breathless. He nods as a response and starts the car.

We drive on a trail leading to a different side of the Magie, this side doesn't contain the fountain and small shops but is cluttered with creatures and shopping outlets. Cars honk at each other while Julius points to a skyscraper in the horizon. "I work there, your school is literally right next to it. Will you be alright?"

I swallow down something undesirable. "Yep." He pecks me on the lips lovingly before driving into the parking lot next door.

Rosemary high. Holy shit. Hundreds upon hundreds of students crowd around at the front gate, a brick building menacingly standing guard in front of a much larger building. I can't tell what material it's made of, but it's matte and reflective at the same time.

A quick scan of the crowd tells me that I won't be able to find Eden, that I'm on my own from here on out. The gates open and the teens rush in as if they had just won the golden ticket and grand tour of the place. A few kids gawk in astonishment as they enter the interior of the building. The golden tile reveals former principle names, velvet ropes block off their photos, and papers rain from who-knows-where, landing in each students arms.

Hiroshi, Moon the paper reads, opening to notify me of my schedule. It's a mad dash to our first classes as the bell rings (the distinct piercing scream of a banshee recording) and I'm left to maneuver my way through the halls. Every dark oak door has a plate of gold nailed to it which reads what it holds inside. Luckily on my third try I land inside the gymnasium and manage to stumble into the boy's locker room.

"What...?" A larger boy questions, his eyes following me around the room. I uncomfortably strip to basketball shorts and a black T-shirt, avoiding the gaze of everyone.

Rosemary High's gym is no different from any other school, except the gold floors and rather tall ceiling with basketball hoops at the very top (for winged students?). The girls are already doing sit-ups in the middle of the court before the couch calls us all to the bleachers. "Anderson, Jefferson, Golightly, Brown, White, White, White, Lewis, Charleston, and new boy how do you say your last name?" The couch rambles, all eyes on me.

"Hiroshi."

"Japanese?" He questions.

"Mother was half." I have no desire to continue with the conversation.

"Well Hiroshi, we're running a mile today. If you prefer flying or running on all fours or hopping, you do you, got it?"

"Yes, coach." The man blows his whistle causing us all to jump in unison and sprint onto the bumpy asphalt track. The whole school is able to see us from where we are at.

"Hi!" A long-legged girl huffs beside me, struggling to keep up. "I'm Janette, you should sit with my table at lunch!" The brunette gasps for air long enough until she eventually falls back.

It isn't a surprise I'm in the front. I'm a runner who's been running his whole life. Whether it's away from the pain or going towards it I always seem to be running. The school windows rush by in a blur as I finish the task in two minutes and thirty seconds, second place coming in at five minutes and fifty five seconds. The coach ruffles my hair, obviously impressed with my performance.

"Let's see how good he is with weights." The boy from the locker room shouts from behind me, his face red and burning. " I bet he can't lift more than me." He laughs sickly and points for me to lay on the worn down blue bench. "New boy's luck has gotta run out at some point!" I calmly walk to the bench and lay on my back, prepared to get slaughtered by this man. "Here comes one hundred." I easily bring it down and back up over my chest in close to perfect form. "Ready for five hundred?"

My other side hastily takes over at the hint of a challenge. "Give me whatever will beat you." I growl. The man-boy forks over another set with 1,200 clearly scribbled on both sides. I slightly struggle to push the weight back up, my Tag burning in frustration until I throw the weights back into his arms, my body cooling by at least ten degrees.

"Give me your schedule, Hiroshi!" Obviously angry the man-boy, or Matt Anderson by what his schedule says, snatches it from my hands with a sick smile. He flips his shaggy brown curls from his lolite eyes and frowns. "I have all of my classes with you..." I try to smile up at him but only get an eyeful of thick neck.

"Maybe you can show me around then." Matt smiles, obviously content with the fact that I need him for something.

"Um...sure newbie, Hiroshi, what do I call you?"

"Moon." I laugh as he awkwardly stumbles over his words.

"Hey, just because I'm being nice doesn't mean our rivalry is over, I'm still going to pound you in every subject. I happen to be a math wiz." He says triumphantly as he points his thumb to his chest.

"So you aren't all muscles." I raise an eyebrow at the chiseled beast, his muscles ripping through his long sleeve shirt. "Nah, my dad is half troll and half demon, muscles are in my genetics. I get the brains from my mom, half siren and half human. It's a deadly mixing pot of species. It's a shock I wasn't stillborn."

I stare up at the brunette once again in astonishment "Wow...you are literally built to kill..."

"What about you? Nobody has ever been able to lift as much as me, you've gotta be pretty lethal too."

"Oh uh...I uh don't really like to talk about it." The banshee recording goes off once again and Matt grips my forearm securely. "You're short compared to the other kids, I don't wanna lose you." A flash of emotion crosses his stern features for a split second. He yells over the screams, pushing our way down the hall and into a classroom.

"Are you the new boy?" The tailed teacher asks me, a scaly finger pointing at a seat in the front. "Welcome to my classroom, we learn about all the magical creatures here. I've actually got a guest speaker coming soon to speak to the class."

I take a seat at a wooden table next to Matt, everyone staring at us with their scaly mouths agape. Posters of unicorns and fairies hang on the silver walls of the rather large room, a few kids from gym class messing with test tubes in the back. The wooden desks sit across from each other in two rows of six, every desk facing the front of the class but one where two bored children rest their head on their hands.

"Who can tell me about Fauxes? Moon?" I'm the only student who didn't raise their hand. With a sigh I recite everything I remember.

"Pronounced as foxes, they are a type of female spirit. They only form in fires and commonly reside in a home's fireplace. Their name originates from faux, meaning fake, because they are not actually made of fire. Instead, Fauxes are made of a chemical not yet discovered. Fauxe burns are treated like a chemical burn and will only get worse if water is applied. There is one death per year caused by Fauxes, mostly human children."

"Correct! How do you get rid of a Fauxe?" Matt rolls his eyes beside me and raises his hand. "You give them coins from the Magie fountain. You literally have to pay them to go away."

"Correct!" Matt smiles down at me sincerely, passing me a worksheet.

"Have you ever seen a Fauxe?" He asks as he fills out the paper, that same flash of emotion coming across his eyes. He turns to the worksheet but his attention is obviously still on me.

"I've only told a few people the story."

He raises a golden eyebrow. "Do you trust me?" Why does it feel like he is asking me two separate questions at once?

I think over the question carefully before I answer him. "Strangely, yes."

"Then go ahead and tell!"

"I-I was about six or seven and was in my friend's basement with him. We had broken the chains to get down there and had lit the f-fireplace. A-a woman's shape appeared and...and blackened as she crawled out the fire towards us-" I say, trying hard to remember the details for him.

"Fauxes aren't supposed to do that..."

I continue my story with a new sense of courage. "She screamed at us to get away fast before we were trapped...the door had closed behind us and she sort of...exploded. We started to suffocate and his dad found us and brought us back up after we passed out or so he said. It was the scariest moment of my life."

"That...that was." Matt stammers for a moment. The banshee recording goes off once again, nobody giving us a second glance as we dart to our next class. Shelves of books crowd the walls as well as sticks to act as wands. Few posters clutter the walls except for the average 'Be Safe' and 'Respect Others' that cover the chipping paint. At the head of the class a young woman in a flowing white dress waves at the students, her coffee colored bun coming undone.

I stand awkwardly at the door, the students seeming to remember their assigned seats from the previous year. The instructor's head snaps around towards me, her hair slipping out into waist length ringlets over her shoulders. "I'm misses Grenwall, I teach the magics class. You must be Moon? The new student?" I awkwardly shake my head yes, her eyes bearing into me. "Well, being the new student I'm going to sit you next to Lizzie! She's been at the top of my class for over four years! Just head on over there and she'll help you get situated."

Ms. Grenwall pushes her manicured nails into my back until I'm facing the direction of a quirky looking blonde. "You must be Lizzie." I state as I sit in the wooden chair.

"Yep." She adverts her hazel eyes back to the instructor, flipping my book open to page sixty-one. "Now, I can help you if you have trouble, that's why we are seated together. I don't like to toot my own horn but I happen to be the best in the class, I even have a plaque in the hall." What a bitch.

"Um...okay." Ms. Grenwall prances over to the window I'm seated by, her heels clicking annoyingly on the flooring until she's seated next to me and the remainder of the class is working on a floating spell.

"Do you need help?" She asks sincerely, handing me a stick twice as thick as the rest of the class's.

"Actually yes, I already know this spell." I whisper in her ear. "I..I was fortunate enough to be introduced to magic at a young age and have a love of learning. I had already mastered all the spell books and dark spells by the age of twelve. I went on to learn to create my own spells by the age of fifteen. I cast them telepathically and without movement so I will not be needing this stick." I slip the oak branch back into her lap where it makes a thumping noise against her leg.

Ms. Grenwall casts an enthusiastic Cheshire Cat grin as she shakes my shoulders and engulfs me in a hug, the oak branch rolling to the floor. "Moon that is amazing..I don't even know how to do that! You should be up there teaching not me!" She hushes herself to peek over at Lizzie struggling with the spell of the day. "Lizzie dear, Moon will be helping you from now on!" As the instructor straightens herself up to leave Lizzie blushes an unflattering shade of red as she drops her stick to stare at me, her hazel eyes welled up with tears.

"I...I...this isn't...no...I've always...it's just that..." Ms. Grenwall returns with a blank leather bound journal and tosses it at me with a pen attached.

"Your assignment for the week is to come up with an effective spell for baking a cake. I have a party coming up." She smiles with a wink, showing off her dimples as the banshee screams (and I'm sure Lizzie too).

The lunchroom. A buzzing place for buzzing people to buzz about how buzzed they were last night. Matt smiles and waves me over to him in line, pushing away fangirls to let me by. "Hey!" He laughs when I finally push through two Olympian sized boys. Matt was right, I am one of the shortest people here. "You're sitting with me and my friends right?"

"Uh..."

"Moon. If you don't sit with me who will you sit with?"

"Eden Parker and Megan...I don't know her last name actually."

"Is she a smoking hot brunette blood servant? Belongs to that Marcus man with the nice car?"

"I guess that's her?"

"Hangs out with the red headed Fae boy? The gay one?"

"I didn't know they knew each other." I admit as we walk up in the line to receive our food. He brushes off the side comment.

"Alright, so each person gets food specially made for their species." Matt explains as he grabs a rather large porcelain bowl. "So I would grab food for a demon, troll, siren, and a human to fit my needs." He shoves a hamburger on top of a bowl piled high with fish, flesh, and something resembling kibble. I scan the cafeteria and its many stands with an illustration of what the cart contains.

"Matt...I can't find my species...is that bad?"

"No. It just means we've never had anyone like you in the school before!" Matt drags my empty hands to a table filled with...Matt's kind. Muscular, football playing, sports fanatics. They eye me suspiciously as Matt lays his bowl on the table. "What do you want me to get you?" He questions me and grabs my plate. "Do you think you can swallow human food without throwing up?" A pang in my abdomen tells me no, the pain spreading down my legs until my toes curl.

"I haven't eaten what I'm supposed to in a long time..." The men at the table continue to give us the evil eye as Matt drags me away.

"I can ask them if they have anything for you if you just tell me what you are."

"Thank you, but I'd rather not...another human meal won't kill me." He bites his bottom lip and shifts his weight to his other foot, his body slighting pressing against mine.

"What if it does?"

"Matt," I smile, placing my hand on his shoulder. "I'd just like some French fries with ketchup and pepper and mozzarella sticks with parmesan. Thanks." Matt rolls his eyes to mask the concern within them but I simply head back to the table.

"I'm Derek." A black haired blue eyed beast calls to me across the table. He shrugs his Hollister jacket off his shoulders before giving me his calloused hand to shake. "That's my brother Jake." He nods his head towards a less muscular blonde man in green. The hazelnut mop of hair beside Derek smiles from underneath his messy locks.

"I'm Eric. That's my girlfriend, Megan, so hands off! Beside her is Eden and that's about it for the immediate gang, the rest are just sports friends and such." I give Eden and Megan a wave before I find Matt at my side with my order. After an extremely long conversation about sports and why Eden hangs with guys like this (He's friends with Megan which automatically got him in with the 'popular' crowd after Megan started to date Eric.) the tables conversation finally switches to a different topic.

"If you died today what animal would you come back as?" Eden questions, fiddling with his mushrooms and roots.

"Definitely a bear." Derek mumbles between bites so it comes out as 'defwinty uh bar'.

"A snake. It's quick just like me on the court." Derek shoves his cocky little brother until he topples over. "What about you, Moon?" I ignore my other half and give a half-hearted shrug as a response. Matt turns to me, a spoonful of the kibble-like stuff in his mouth.

"What are you good at?"

"Sex."

"Somebody's a bit full of themselves." Eric grins while cupping his face in his hands. "You could be a bunny, those things breed like crazy! One day you have five and in thirty minutes you'll have five-thousand!"

The banshee shrieks to indicate the end of lunch and Matt twists his arm under my own to extract my plate. "I've got it bunny, go on to class." Obviously proud of the new nickname he came up with, he disappears around the corner with a sly grin plastered on his face. Shaking my head, I exit the cafeteria and head to my next class with Eden and Megan on both sides.

"How was school?"

"How was work?" I counter as Julius unlocks the front door of the house, throwing his keys into the bowl with an I-don't-care attitude. "It was great. Did you meet anyone new? Have any new friends? Are the classes hard?" The sharp pain in my abdomen returns as I sit the takeout on the dinner table.

"Um...yes, yes, and no."

"That's nice to hear! Hey," He tosses me a fortune cookie from across the table before staring at his distorted reflection in the wood. "The people at work want to meet you soon and even want to throw the shower. Gabe said he was fine with it so we'll be going over there eventually to have it and all that jazz. They're super nice people and I know you'll love them! All they talk about is you!"

"That's great, Julius!" I say even though I have no idea what he is talking about and continue to scarf down Chinese to my heart's content.

My phone vibrates from underneath my black pillow (I decided to not sleep with Julius tonight) leaving a fluorescent blue square of light on the ceiling. One new text. I stare at the unknown number before finally sliding my finger over the 'open' button.

Don't forget you have homework, bunny :) I feel my lips curving up into a smile before I respond.

How did you get my number? Buzzzzz. I really need a quieter vibration mode.

Eden

I roll my eyes. GOODNIGHT MATT. I TOTALLY HAVE TO DO HOMEWORK. *EYEROLL*

It's late bunny, get some sleep. I don't bother to respond, instead I extract the leather book from its resting place and begin on my homework until Lucy turns the lights out on me, yelling to get some rest. At some point in the night Julius had snuck into my bed, his white-blonde resting hair sprawled over my shoulder blade. "Are you ready for tomorrow?" He yawns.

"Not sure yet, I just want the day to be over." Julius gives a sigh, his eyes focusing on the comforter.

"Moon I-I lo-lo-look forward to tomorrow!" He rushes, turning around and covering himself with the blankets.

"I do too, Jules ." I kiss his back then neck before drifting off with him in my arms.

Note:
