47 [Final]
Since I woke up I was on video chat with my mom- no since the last day of school we've been doing daily calls. I slipped up about liking someone and just...a lot and now she was a worrying wreck. Clyde and I also started talking more, which made me happy but I was exhausted. My dad dropped me off right when the bus came, the sky was still dark. At least I wasn't late I guess.
"I have to go now mom." I say glancing at my screen as I took off my seatbelt.
"I know sweetie...just um...please be careful! And if you don't see that boy, don't worry about him. You can still have fun on this trip." she says giving me a comforting smile. "I love you, be safe."
"I love you too, and okay." I sigh but smile anyway, to not worry her too much beforr hanging up. "Bye dad! Love you." I say hopping out the car.
"Listen to what your mother said!" Dad calls after me with a smile. "Love you too Bug." he says causing me to roll my eyes with a smile, before waving him goodbye.
I decided to wait for everyone going on the trip to come out of the school building, since the bus was already here. My eyes kept searching for Farley, whenever the doors opened and people walked out. While I wanted to see him, and then I kind of didn't all at the same time.
But I did find Cory, he was the first I saw. I was about to give him a hug, but he dodges me. I pout as he laughs wrapping his arm around my shoulder, and pats me on the back.
"I didn't know who you were, I was about to sucker punch you." Cory says grinning as I scoff while crossing my arms.
Cory was a huge help after the last day ot school, while it wasn't a lot of time I know we grew closer. He told me Vic had pulled stunts like this, make his heart flutter (whatever that meant), and then disappear. Though I hoped- no I don't think Farley would be like that. Nonetheless, Cory had opened up to me and I appreciated it. Clyde and dad wasn't the only ones I could go to now about my problems.
"Mr. Denver, you should have went inside so I could mark you for attendance." a voice says behind me, causing Cory and I to turn around.
Ms. Housewright was walking up to us with a clipboard and lime-green highlighter in hand. Farley and a few others so happened to be right behind her rolling some luggage or carrying containers. I flashed Farley a look, before turning my full attention to Ms. Housewright.
"Sorry ma'am." I say as she sighs but marks something on the noard, that I assume was my name. "Don't let it happen again if you plan on being in Band next year." she says before walking off and the others behind her follow, except Farley.
"I'm gonna give you two some alone time while I go call Lily." Cory whispers to me before running off with his phone in hand.
I glance at Farley as he steps on a little thing that makes the luggage stand up straight. "I thought you guys finished for all the preparations." I say staring at the luggage instead of him.
"I thought so too." he sighs then we stand there in silence.
So I decide to break the ice. I walk up to him and nudge him hard in the arm instead of punching him. "Thanks for ghosting me!" I say as he groans laughing a little. I had no clue what ghosting was until Cory taught me, and had used it frequently.
"I didn't ghost you." he says glancing away, which I only dig my elbow into him more. "Ouch! Alright alright, I did! I'm sorry, I just didn't-" but before he could finish the bus honked for us to get on.
He stepped on the thing he had stepped on before on the luggage, then looked at me. "I have to go put this away, but I'll catch up with ya." he says before rolling away with the luggage.
The bus was a vibrant red, it was practically shining and so were the wheels. It was like it was brand new, unlike the normal school buses.
I find Cory, Lily, and Vic before going onto the bus. And the inside smells like a new car, which are possibly chemicals like my mother always says but I love it. The seats were black leather, no rips or stains. The lights made the inside seem to glow and the floors, and there was a bathroom. It seemed silver and clean from my angle when Ms. Housewright opened it and gave us instructions to not go unless we absolutely must.
Those on the bus started getting settled so more could come on. I wasn't sure if it would be enough room for everyone, but there were seats on the roof I guess. Cory and Lily sat in the seats on my left side while Vic took the seat behind me. I put my leg in the spot I was saving for Farley, which my friends decided to poke fun at me for.
"I can't wait to get in the water." Vic sighs as he whips his hair around, causing Lily and I to laugh while Cory rolled his eyes.
Farley finally made his appearance before the bus doors closed, and his eyes found mine before he walked over. I moved my leg quickly, which ended up me hitting it against the side of the bus. Thankfully it didn't make a loud noise that would catch attention, but I was hissing as it stung repeatedly. Farley plopped down in the seat next to me and quirked an eyebrow. But I didn't say anything, and just tried to ignore the pain since it would just be breif, while the bus started to leave the school.
I had forgot where we were heading to, all I know is that it was some cities or so away. My eyes felt heavy so I started trying to make myself comfortable, which surprisingly wasn't too hard on this bus. I should have been trying to stay awake, but my friends' conversations didn't fight my sleep back.
A bump jolted me awake. I turned my head just to realize the heat surrounding me. I was leaning against Farley and he was doing the same to me, except he was still asleep. I ended up watching his face too long- it shouldn't have happened at all! I sat up a little to glance around, most people were fast asleep. Cory was up on his phone while Vic was asleep, snoring loudly behind me. And Lily was sleeping against the bus.
"How long...was I asleep?" I ask between yawns as I stretched.
"Maybe an hour or longer." Cory replies glancing my way and I hum back before yawning again.
Lily shivered suddenly and Cory snuggled her. I felt my face get hot and glanced away, the two seemed better with each other thankfully. Now I just needed to figure out what to do with Farley, a lot of his weight was on me. It wasn't exactly a problem, but it wasn't helping my face to stop burning. The familiar feeling with my heart started going. I tried moving but it was hopeless, I was stuck.
By the time the sky started turning light blue, people were getting up. And the bus driver turned on the radio. Lily and Farley was still asleep but Cory, Vic, and I were awake.
Vic was chatting it up with someone who was sitting behind him, while Cory and I talked. It mostly focused on me and Farley.
"Look, he needs to do more than apologize. Set him in his place." Cory whispers as I mutter to myself.
"I'm not like you." I sigh glancing at the sleeping Farley who started to lean against me again.
Cory frowns a little, glancing at Lily. "I'm not like that either Oakely. And you're probably right, he means well. You both are probably just nervous wrecks. And you will probably have to make a move so he can know where you two stand. Otherwise he may pretend nothing happened out of fear."
I bit my lip as I felt my cheeks burn. "I'm scared too..."
"Well, you got the spark to make this start. He only brought the idea, briefed over it just in case he could take it back if you didn't want it. He's only gonna know you feel the same if you tell him. You both are scared, but you guys react differently." he explains and I nod sighing.
"Good luck." Vic's voice pipes up before I feel him give my shoulder a good shake of encouragement.
Pop songs, and other types that were a bit bouncy got everyone up and awake. Some people sang, while others were quiet and/or annoyed.
"Cause I can make your hands clap!" Farley, Vic and some others sing in union, as Cory rolls his eyes.
"You know, it sounds like an innuendo." Cory mumbles and I tilt my head, before he explains making my face burn.
"Stop teasing poor Oakely." Vic laughs patting my head, making me pout.
Eventually the bus finally stopped at our first destination. It seemed like a museum of some sorts. The building had "Marlon's Museum Of Arts" carved at the top. The building seemed to be a mix of a pearly white and a grayiah brown color of possible marble-like material.
We all got out the bus and followed Ms. Housewright inside. We split off into our own groups but made sure to tell her so she knew. We all had her number or knew someone who did, and we weren't allowed to be without someone from our group. My group was obviously made up with Cory, Lily, Vic, Farley and myself- oh and two others that Vic knew.
Inside there was art like paintings, sculptures, a library, book store, musicians, dancers, singers, and probably a lot more. I was a bit overwhelmed with everything, my eyes was watering as I glanced around everywhere I could get my eyes to reach.
"Where to first?" Vic asks glancing back at the rest of us.
"I want to check out the dancers." Cory and Lily says in sync, before glancing at each other with pink cheeks.
"Well I want to see the library." a girl says more to Vic than us.
"And the paintings." a guy says and the girl nods.
"I don't mknd wherever we go honestly." Vic says already walking with the two, while Cory and Lily leave to go where they want as well.
"Guess it's just us." Farley laughs glancing at me, which I quickly look away as my heart flip flops.
Suddenly it's really hot, like I can't seem to breathe. I tug at my shirt, and try to get some air by fanning myself a bit with it. The flip flops only got worse when Farley linked his arm with mine. He was way too close- I was getting dizzy from his cinnamon-minty scent. While on the bus I thought I noticed this, I moved my body as far as I could from him. I don't think I ever noticed it before or this much. And now he was awake and in control. And the smell was such a weird combination but it worked for him- I mean!
"Where do you want to go first?" he asks as he leads our steps since I'm too dizzy to comprehend where to step.
"Uh-Uh Uwah..." is all I could muster and he quirked an eyebrow at me.
"Are you okay? You look sick." he says frowning and I shook my head quickly.
"Let's go see the sculptures!" I say leading the way now.
"That's the wrong direction, the sculptures are down this second hall to the left." Farley points out and nods in the direction.
"Oh." I laugh nervously walking in that direction as he laughs shaking his head.
I forgot many sculptures from back in the day showed many body parts. If people wanted to show them, fine. But I couldn't cool down my hot face. Farley was obviously amused with that stupid little smirk on his face. His eyes glinted at me as I tried to avoid most of the sculptures.
"Oakely, you chose to come here yet you aren't even admiring the art." he says as my gaze is lowered to the ground.
"I am admiring!" I huff walking over to where he was.
"Yeah, admiring the ground. Mother nature appreciates it but admire the sculptures too." he chuckles and I glance up a little only for my eyes to land on a memb- anyway!
I quickly look down at the ground completely. "This was a bad idea." I mumble to myself.
Eventually we move on to the musician area. We found Cory and Lily since the dancers weren't too far away. I hummed along with many of the songs that filled the air. I noticed that not all the people performing weren't famous or anything, some were just "ordinary" people.
"Maybe you should play something here next time." I whisper to Farley as Cory leads us to a food stand.
"I don't knooow." Farley replies rolling his eyes with a smile. "I'll think about it, I'm not that good."
I scoffed nudging him gently, "You are fantastic."
After we got some corndogs or hotdogs we headed outside. There was more dancers, musicians, and singers out here. I found out we could tip them so I started tipping a few, and eventually we met up with Vic and the others.
Hours had passed on a lot quicker than I thoight they would be. It was already the afternoon before I knew it. We found the Workshop Center where you could make your own art. Cory and Lily were working with an instructor for dancing. Vic and the other two were painting with me, while Farley was making his own "prototype" guitar out of whatever materials they offered. Some other instructor was helping him with that. By the time we left the center it was later in the afternoon, and Farley had a souvenir.
"That looks more like a ukulele." Vic comments on Farley's "guitar", as we all gathered outside on a large hill area like Ms. Housewright asked.
"Well I couldn't use up all the materials to make a bigger one." Farley replies as Ms. Housewright is still gathering others over.
"You could have, you just were being too generous." Vic hums earning a punch in the arm by Farley.
I shake my head at the two, suddenly Cory is leaning over my way. "When are you going to talk to him or something?" Cory whispers to me making me pout.
"Uh-" before I could reply back, Ms. Housewright cleared her throat to get all of our attention.
"Everyone is going to get flares or sparklers, you get to choose one. If there is more left after everyone who wants one gets one then I'll allow seconds. But remember to stay safe or this won't happen again." Ms. Housewright annouces as some people from the museum opens up some boxes. "And aim away from the museum, other people, and yourself."
The sky was slowly getting darker as we all were in rows picking out what we wanted. I'll admit, I was a bit afraid of the flares. My dad got hurt by one last year, so I stuck to the sparklers. Everyone in our group got flares except Lily, and I. Cory says he was "too cool" for this- well that's how he acted. But eventually he got one. Lily and I were the small sparkler pair. The ones with the flares were a bit farther away from us.
"Are you going to tell Farley?" Lily mumbles as she waves her sparkler near the rocky ground, crouched down.
I sputter my words as my face burn. "I-I dunno." I mumble doing the same as her. "How are you and Cory?" I ask and immediately she glances up at me with a pink face.
"We're okay I guess." she shrugs before burying her face a little, and looks down at her sparkler as it dies out.
"Lily!" Cory yells suddenly and we both bolt up and go over to the direction of his voice. We glare at him as we see him grinning, well mostly Lily. "Come over here." he says and Lily glances at me but I give her a smile to reassure her.
She sighs and walks over to him. My starts to heat up as Cory snakes his arm over with hers, pulling her close to him. As his flare goes off I end up looking away quickly. I move away to go back to playing with my sparkler, but I realize that it died out. I sigh and glance over to the area with boxes to see a few getting fireworks. As I start to make my way over a hand grabs my wrist. I whip around only to see Farley.
"Follow me." he says with a smile that seems to be confident at first but shakes a little.
I quirk an eyebrow but let him lead the way. He has two sprarklers in his hand I notice. He hands me one and lights mine with his. I smile making letters in the air. His sparked orangish-red while mine sparked green. We both start making weird signs or words in the air laughing at each other. He makes a weird looking monkey he says is a bird. While my rhino looks like a rock to him.
"I want to apologize properly." Farley mumbles as I write my name in the air, then glance over at him quickly. "I shouldn't have ignored you after that. I just didn't know how you were going to react. And maybe I just..didn't want to know. But I still had no right to do that to you." he sighs as his sparkler just sparks by his side. "What I should have done was..." he closes his eyes before opening them and turning his body completely in my direction. "I was BookerBooker, I am him."
"I know." I say as I feel my throat tigten and my stomach twist, as my body feels like it is on fire.
"And I like you."
"I know." I end up croaking as my lip trembles, and my heart is flip flopping like crazy.
"Is that it?" he asks and I draw circles in the air subconsciously as my head seems to be ticking. "Oakely."
"Are you gonna make me say it?" my voice cracks and I quickly cover my mouth with my face burning, almost as hot as the rest of my body.
His lips press together into a thin line. His colors seem to drain as his sparkler starts to die out.
"Cy-" he starts to say but I seal his lips, closing the space between us.
His scent of cinnamon-mint surrounds me as his arms wrap around me. And from the corner of my eye, I see his sparkler burning bright again, right beside mine.
~ It took me a very long time to get to this ending, but here it is. While we may all want to know the answers to a story or so, life doesn't always work that way. You don't always know every single detail.
