Friday was finally here again. I passed all my quizzes and my test thankfully. My worse grade was a C, and that was on my photography quiz. I tried my best with studying but it was slightly hard to remember so many long and hard spelling names of famous photographers.
I grumbled to myself as we all walked together. The bell had rung and Vic's game was today. I was wondering if anyone else knew and had planned on to come. It would be kind of awkward for me to go to a game alone.
"Are you going to the game?" I asked Clyde as Cory and Lily went the opposite way of us as we headed outside.
"No, I'll be helping my granny," Clyde said and I pouted slightly making him laugh. "Sorry Oakely," he said waving goodbye to me and Farley.
"See you all next week," Farley said and I caught his arm before he walked off.
He turned to look at me quirking an eyebrow. My cheeks heated up and I let go of his arm. I rubbed the back of my head laughing nervously.
"Sor-Sorry, are you going to the game?" I asked and felt an arm go over my shoulder making my face heat up.
"Yeah Farley, heading to my game? Cory already rejected coming." Vic said pouting.
"Um...I actually don't have any money to go." Farley said softly shifting to one foot and the other making me frown slightly.
"I'll pay," Vic said grinning and I smiled gently.
Vic is really a good guy. I wonder why he and Cory don't get along. Actually, Vic and Farley don't seem to get along much either. But not as bad as him and Cory.
"No you will not, I'm sorry I can't go," Farley said gripping the strap of his bag slightly.
"Come on Far-" Vic began.
"I'll be alone and awkward if I'm the only one to go," I said and they both looked at me making my face heat up.
I covered my mouth looking away from their gaze. I can't believe I said that out loud. Now Farley will pity me. What if he really doesn't want to go but goes because of me?
"Okay.." Farley sighed and Vic grinned now.
"Great!" Vic dug into his pocket accidentally pulling out keys and stuffed those back in and handed out ten dollars.
"It cost ten to go?" I asked with wide eyes.
"No, just two. But you need to go also. And you both might get hungry." Vic grinned.
"Oh..thanks." I smiled and Vic winked making my cheeks heat up.
"So um we should trade numbers so we can meet up and pay at the same time," Farley said taking out his phone and I nodded taking mine out.
"I'll give you guys my number too," Vic said digging through his pockets for his phone soon producing it.
We all exchanged numbers as I heard a honk. I jumped slightly startled making Farley blink and Vic laugh. We all went our separate ways and I started out at my school from the window as dad drove us farther away. I watched the school get smaller and smaller before it disappeared.
"So talk to your friend?" dad said out of nowhere making me jump then soon my cheeks heated up thinking of who he could be talking about.
"Um..what friend?" I asked and he laughed glancing at me in the mirror as he drove to a stop at a red light.
"Your online friend," he said as the light went green and he began to drive again.
I found myself smiling. I bet if dad saw he would quirk an eyebrow and look at me weirdly. My heart flips flopped and I couldn't wait to text him. Then that all crashed down and my shoulders slumped down.
"Not yet and probably not for a while. Did I mention I'm going to my friend's game today?" I asked and he hummed to himself.
"You might have, you know how bad my memory is bug.," he said and I laughed.
"Well is it okay if you drop me off back at school around...." I started texting Farley to ask what time.
Farley:
I don't know, 30 minutes before the game starts.
When does the game start anyway? I bet Farley didn't know. I realized I left dad hanging and he was still waiting for an answer. I quickly texted Vic.
Vic:
Hey cutie ;)
I felt my cheeks heat up. And I took a deep breath, he could be mistaking me for someone else. I tried to remember my mission.
Me:
This is Oakely, what time is the game?
Vic:
Around 4 p.m. and yeah I know who you are. Did your face turn red?
I huffed grumbling to myself. Dad glanced at me in the mirror. I cleared my throat as my cheeks were still hot. I put my.phone up and glanced up at dad.
"Three-thirty would be good," I said and dad nodded with a quirked eyebrow before looking away from me. I sighed in relief and text Vic.
Me:
N-No, thanks for telling me the time. See you at the game, good luck!
Vic:
Thanks, and your not a good liar.
I pouted and huffed. I went to Farley and I's text messages and texted him next. I felt dad drive us to a stop. I assumed we were home.
Me:
Is 3:30 good for you?
Farley:
Not in the morning
I huffed as I opened the door. These guys are so evil to me. How dare they tease me like this. I shut the door behind me as dad unlocked the door. I started texting back while the following dad into the house. I closed the door doing the challenge of texting the rest of what I was going to say with one finger.
Me:
You and Vic are so meeeaaan. I meant p.m. and you know it.
Farley:
Did I? Well, see you at that time. I'll probably walk the dog, do you think my dog could come to the game? Or would I have to pay for him too?
I blinked at his message as I walked into the kitchen. I eventually giggled as dad started on dinner. He quirked an eyebrow at me making me swallow feeling my cheeks heat up.
Me:
I don't think dogs are even allowed at a game.
Farley:
I guess your right, well see you later.
Me:
Okay, bye bye
I turned off my phone and put it in my pocket. I washed my hands then began to help dad with dinner. Once we were finishing making homemade pasta we got the plates and dug in. The pasta wasn't amazing like mom's cooking or any good fast food place or restaurant but it was okay.
After dinner, we both got ready to head out. I was fighting with myself to text Bookie or not. I bit my lip staring at the app. I just wanted him to make sure I wasn't ignoring him. That I was just busy. I sighed and finally made a decision.
CyberGeek: Hey Bookie? I'll be out for a while. I just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't worry or think I was ignoring you. I will talk to you as soon as I come back.
I sent the message and dad glanced at me while spinning the keys. I realized he was waiting for me. My cheeks felt hot and I opened the door for us to go outside. He chuckled heading out first which I followed the closed the door after me. He locked it then unlocked the car.
"Was that your friend?" dad asked and I felt like I jumped out of my skin that soon felt hot.
"Wha-What friend?" I asked opening the door to the passenger's side which was a big mistake but I had already sat down.
"You online friend." dad said getting in and closes the door the same time I did.
"U-Um yeah, how did you know?" I asked putting my seatbelt on as he did.
"I figured," he said starting the car making me furrow my eyebrows in thought.
I eventually text Farley and glanced at the time. It was three-twenty. I was slightly early which wasn't too bad. I sent the text whistling and turned off my phone. Soon it vibrated and my heart flip-flop. I felt the corners of my lips rise as I turned on my phone to only have a sigh leave me and my shoulders slump. I heard a chuckle come from my dad and I glanced at him pouting. I guess he knows the person I wanted to reply didn't reply and someone else did.
Farley:
I'm here already, just waiting for you.
Me:
Okay, I'm almost there.
I sent that and turned my phone off. I slid it into my pocket and sat up. I felt I was being watched and glanced at dad. He was smiling and probably still laughing on the inside at me. I huffed crossing my arms and mumbling to myself.
As soon as we got there I saw Farley by the tree he usually is at after school. I waved at him smiling as I got out the car. Dad honked at me and I turned around waving goodbye. He cracked a smile waving back then drove off. Farley and I headed to the back of the school. I was just following close behind since I wasn't sure where to go.
We came to the ticket booths. There was four of them. The lines weren't too long but we took the shortest line which only had about eleven people. Soon it was our turn and we were checked for weapons then Farley bought our tickets. My eyes widen when we came to the huge field with many benches. Only a few people were sitting around on them. Farley turned to me after also looking at the field.
"Do you want to get something to eat now?" Farley asked and I thought about it for a while before nodding.
When I saw the prices I gulped. We only had done dollars left and most was expensive. The cheapest thing was popcorn and a bottle of water. I wasn't really a popcorn person. Farley decided we would share nachos that was four dollars. He bought a coca cola for himself and bought me a lemonade. He found a bench and sat down and I tried to resist the urge of drinking a lot of my lemonade and eating a lot of the nachos. Farley had warned me that the game may be long.
Eventually, more people showed up and the benches were mostly filled. It made me happy that so many people would come to support the school. Guess that was kind of nerdy of me. Soon our school's football team got onto the field. Their uniforms were yellow and orange. The other school's team came on our field wearing red and white. I noticed the familiar mossy brown hair and waved at Vic grinning. He grinned up glancing at me and waved back before wall off with the others. Soon cheerleaders came onto the field.
The game began to start. I was watching them play slightly confused. I didn't want to sound stupid so I didn't ask Farley how football work. Our school team was losing, I only knew that because our football players were getting frustrated and Farley sighed about it. Eventually, our school started to cheer for them. I joined in hoping it would help. Our nachos were soon gone but I still had my lemonade. Vic started to get touchdowns and our school started catching up to the other school.
"Just one more touchdown and we can win," Farley said before drinking some of his coca colas.
I glanced at the field. Did we need to win right? Well, I wanted us to win and I'm sure others did too. I wanted to stand up and shout but I was scared. Vic did say to cheer for him. I tugged Farley's sleeve and he turned to look at me. My cheeks heat up and I tried to organize my thoughts.
"Wi-Will you stand up and cheer for them with me," I asked and Farley chuckled nodding then stood up which I quickly followed.
Lots of eyes were staring at us. The staring was almost unbearable. I swallowed feeling my hands get clammy. I wanted to sit down I felt my knees bending to do so. Farley grabbed my hand and I looked up quickly as he yelled.
"GO EAST TOWN HIGH!" his voice was loud and bold.
It made more people turn to state at him more than me. I had to join in, he's done a lot for me. I soon took a deep breath then yelled the same thing and noticed Vic had the football running but glancing at us. People started to stand up telling for Vic to keep running. The other school's football players starting running after him.
"You can do it, Vic!" I yelled but not too loud just as loud as a person in a crowd would normally yell.
Vic grinned my way but soon I noticed a huge guy making his way to Vic. My eyes widen and I leaned over to yell run. But I knew I would probably not make it in time.
"THROW IT!" Fairly yelled before I yelled and Vic blinked while the other guy was coming closer to him.
Vic turned then threw the ball as he got tackled. I gasped wanting to jump down to the field to check on Vic. It seemed like I was the only one worried about Vic because I heard an uproar making me look up to notice a smaller guy on our school's team had caught the football and made a touchdown.
"He's okay." I heard Farley say and a hand was on my shoulder, I looked up at him with my cheeks feeling slightly hot then glanced back at Vic who was getting up and nodded.
I guess I was the only one worried after all. I noticed someone in all dark clothing with a black cap on covering their face was looking the way Vic was. They were standing up too. I going to sit back down when I noticed everyone was leaving. I had ignored the announcement that our school won and missed our team holding up the trophy.
I soon was running to the field. Farley was right behind but walking. I wanted to congratulate Vic. Vic was talking to some guys then turned glancing at me and grinned. I smiled back still running to get to him and when I stopped in front of him panting.
"Con...gra..." I was panting and Vic was laughing.
I bet Farley was still walking to meet us. I took one last deep breath before exhaling and standing up straight about to finish the rest when Vic closed up space between us.
My eyes widen and the last thing I saw was Cory. He was the guy in the dark clothing. His blue eyes that were wide soon narrowed.
~ Oooooh Vic made a bold move. And Cory has been caught at the football game. Well until next time my potatoes.
