A second chance

Your POV (flashback in italics)

'And here comes the running champion, the Bey Empress, (y/n) (l/n)!'

I stepped onto the stage as the crowds erupted all around  me, swallowing me in camera flashes and roars. I grinned and waved to everyone, garnering even more woops and cheers.

'And here comes the boy that has taken the world by storm! It's his first time in the championships, but he has taken down one tough opponent after another! It's Lui Shirasagi!'

I feasted my eyes on the new blader. He was short, with blue, flamey hair flowing everywhere, making him look taller. His teeth were widened in a grin, no, a smirk, showing off his sharp pearly whites.

'Listen up!' I yelled, jabbing my finger in his direction. 'Just because this is your first time doesn't mean I'll go easy on you!'

He grunted. 'Same here, but I could beat you even if I was going easy on you!'

'Save your bragging for who cares!'

'3 2 1!  Let it rip!'

The first thing that struck me was it's counter clockwise rotation.

'That won't stop me!'

But I quickly realized there was more to his bey than it's unusual rotation. It was so fast, so powerful, it finished everything off in a single strike.

'And it's a burst finish! Lui Shirasagi snags the battle, and the championship from the undefeated Bey Empress, (y/n) (l/n)! That's gotta hurt!'

I slumped down on the cold ground, realizing what had happened.

'I-I-I lost?' I stuttered in disbelief.

'And in just one hit as well,' Lui cackled, clutching on to the gold trophy that had been sitting in my room for so long now, that it almost seemed like he was stealing it from me. 'Get off that stage. Terrible bladers like you don't deserve to be here. At all.'

----------------

Terrible bladers like you don't deserve to be here. At all

The words echoed in my head like it had just been said. It had been like that for almost five years now. It was the sentence I woke up in a cold sweat to. I had been waiting for a day to prove him wrong. And today was the day. I opened my eyes and stared into the depths of his purple eyes. My hands were fists, and my stare was cold. I was just focused on beating him. I couldn't even hear the crowds, the roars, the cheers. I needed to win this.

'So, back for more?' Lui sneered. 'I told you terrible bladers don't deserve to be here.'

'I am not a terrible blader,' I said quietly.

'Huh? What's that?' he feigned deafness. I ignored him, going into my new stance. I kneeled down, keeping one foot popped and the other flat. I was prepared to show everybody my second new move of the day. I still couldn't hear what people were saying, whispering about this new move. I was focused on only one thing. Beating Lui.

'3 2 1!'

I jumped off from both of my feet, soaring high into the air. My feet went behind my back, creating a cradle position in the air.

'Let it rip!'

I had pulled the string as hard as I could. The audience gasped in awe. Xcalius slammed into the ground, then bounced back up, just as high. I landed back safely on two feet, ready to battle. I grinned. 'That's my Soaring Boost for you!'

I glanced behind at Shu, who smiled and nodded at me. I had come up with this after my battle with Shu, when I was back to normal after Lui tormented me.

'So you have a new move, huh?' Lui said calmly. 'That still won't help you! Lost Spiral!'

His aura was activated, blue and purple flames swallowing him up, and an almighty dragon appearing.

'Don't be so sure about that!' I shouted. 'Suspend Launch!'

Red and orange fiery flames erupted around me, and a magnificent sword charged along with Xcalius. Xcalius landed on the ground just before Luinor, then suspended as the two collided. A gush of wind came from the stadium, blowing back my hair, but I still leaned forward, eager to see the result. Luinor laid on the ground a couple of feet away from Lui. But Xcalius was next to my feet as well.

'Who won?' we both asked. The referre was silent.

'Simultaneous ring-out finish! Draw!'

'Lady and gents, I can't believe what we have witnessed!' Hanami cried out. 'Luii has been in a draw for the first time in the National Tournament! This is going down in the history books! Well done, (y/n)!'

But I was far from happy. I walked down the stairs quietly.

'Yay! (y/n), you tied!' Valt said happily. 'Huh? What's wrong (y/n)?'

Without thinking, I turned around and lunged towards Shu, wrapping my arms around him as the tears started flowing.

'I-I-I didn't win...' I sobbed. 'I said I would...but I didn't...all those years of training going down the drain...'

He lifted my chin up and wiped a tear away.

'(y/n)? What's wrong with you?'

'H-Huh?'

'A draw against Lui is a huge deal,' he said happily. 'I can tell Lui is shocked, and just as upset as you are right now.'

'Well...I suppose so.'

'See? You're getting over it,' he smiled. 'And don't you worry. I'm going to win the next two points.'

He left me, and started determinedly walking up to the stage. His scar was bright red, memories of his loss to Lui flowing back.

'C'mon Shu,' I whispered. 'I know you can do this.'
