The Moth
I flew down the stairs to the kitchen. Edith scampered back to the elevator with a knife in her hands.
You think you can kill me? You don't have it in you.
I rushed to the gate and caught it right when she tried to close it. I reached between one of the gaps with the blade and swung far as I could. I strained against the metal and felt my other hand hit against the side of the cage.
This can't protect you. You're not getting away from me!
When she swung towards me with her knife, I felt nothing. I held on tighter. Suddenly, she pulled the gate back, trapping my arm. Then, she slammed the gate again with an animalistic cry. The metal dug into my skin and crushed my muscle. I felt heat as my veins bursted. My hand spasmed and the knife fell. The lever of the elevator swung and the metal grinded against me as it started to descend. I yanked my arm out before I lost it.
So you want to play? Let's play.
I hurried as fast as I could down to the pits but had to watch my step because the walls and stairs were covered in the viscous crimson clay. I stopped just in front of the elevator and looked to the mine shaft. It's impossible for her to climb it. She's still here.
"Edith?"
No response. At least she's not stupid to face me. I made my way to my hiding spot. The only one that Thomas didn't know about. I pried up the stone slab.
"Before they put me away," I groaned as I moved the slab over. "I kept a little souvenir..."
I uncovered the meat cleaver, now dusted with rust but made a crisp sound as it scraped the slab as I stood.
"From mother," I sighed, smiling. The blade felt lighter in my hand. When I was young, it felt like an axe, but I felt how the weight turned into power. I saw what it can do to the skull of a hardheaded and heartless woman. Now, I'll see what it can do to the rest of the body.
Edith stepped out from behind the furthest pit, her knife looking pitiful now. I stepped forward and hissed. She staggered back.
Not so brave, are you? You're just a scared child.
I stepped again and she retreated. I laughed as I lurched forward.
You're mine now. There's nowhere else to hide.
She started to scamper up the mine shaft, stumbling over the metal buckets. I growled.
Damn it!
I followed after her, the cleaver clanking against metal as I climbed.
This will all be worth it.
A/N: I wrote this chapter awhile ago and put off publishing it because of how action driven it was. I didn't want it to feel like I was solely describing what was happening in the movie. Hopefully, I had a good grasp on what Lucille was thinking and experiencing in this moment. P.S. Would anyone be interested in knowing what happened to Thomas' previous wives?! Let me know if that's something you'll want to read!
