9. Playing with humans

"So, what's your deal?" Yoongi spoke, eyes cold.
"I'm here to keep an eye on you, what else?" Namjoon was perfectly nonchalant.
"That, we can see clearly. But what are you people? Vampires? For real?" Jin said, leaning his back against the tree as he couldn't hold himself back from scoffing.
"Oh, no one told you anything?" Namjoon stayed expressionless, his posture stiff but elegant.
"The person from before is Kim Taehyung as you all know already and myself Kim Namjoon. He is kind of our leader, you can say. We're brothers but he is superior due to his unusual strengths and powers. You don't need to know much about it." Namjoon walked around the place, admiring the moist plant leaves and flowers. The others stayed silent, waiting for Namjoon to continue. For some reason, he sounded more like them; like normal humans, but that's just probably because he was bored.
"I know you want to know why all of this is happening and what's our deal." he eyed Yoongi, choosing to repeat Yoongi's words.
"As he said, the forest listens to us, prioritises us, the vampires, first in any danger just as we do for it. Your friend did a mistake by provoking Taehyung's concealed desire on the moonless night, when his senses are the most sensitive. A little movement can trigger him around this time of the year and therfore, after once he smells Jungkook's blood, he can no longer restrain himself from having a taste of his blood to his heart's content." Namjoon explained thoroughly as everyone tried to process what he said.
"So, you're telling me, Jungkook has to get killed in order to feed your leader's desires? Excuse me, but fuck your leader and his stupid desire, my friend is not a meal for you vampires." Jimin spoke up, almost springing up from him place, not caring about how he sounded.
"Yaah! Shut up!" Jin whispered to him but it was too late.
Namjoon chuckled, hands folded in front of him. "Don't blame me if you get in trouble for running your mouth." his smile vanished. "Don't ever dare to speak like this in front of him. He doesn't have mercy on anyone unless he wants to." he finished with a dead look on his face.
"But why the heck are we trapped here?" Jin muttered, frustrated.
"Until there is a signal from Taehyung, you have to stay here." Namjoon answered as Jimin groaned, annoyed. Namjoon then ignored their whines.

"What do you mean?" Jungkook kept his eyes straight.
"Do you like playing games?" Taehyung asked, his voice sounding curious but eyes dark.
"What?" Jungkook didn't know what was going on inside Taehyung's brain. The complicity of Taehyung's expressionless eyes was not easy for anyone to decode just like that.
"Okay, I will tell you about myself." Taehyung's smile returned as his eyes twinkled with a gleam.
"I don't have much memories of childhood since it was centuries ago, but I can surely tell how much I loved to play; be it with games or anything else. You must have loved games too, right? So, why do we not reminisce about our childhood together?" Taehyung said in a smooth voice.
"What the hell are you playing?" Hobi exploded with anger.
Taehyung's jaw clenched, eyes sharp as he stared back at Jungkook, not looking at Hobi who dared to speak in between.
"What type of game?" Jungkook was surprisingly calm.
"Um..." Taehyung stepped back, fingers tapping his chin as he pretended to think. "Do you know what else I like?" he turned to Hobi, then again at Jungkook. "Secrets."
"What's so fun about knowing everything? Still, I won't be cruel to your cute self." Taehyung raised his hand, approaching Jungkook's face but he dodged it making Taehyung smile as he retreated his hand back.
"Humans are really interesting, I have always been craving to play with them, you know? So, this time I plan to play for a long time." the way his words smoothly rolled off his tongue sounded amusing to Jungkook's ears.
The overall silent room, only filled with his dark yet silky smooth voice had a unique charm to it.
"I agree." Jiwoong commented in between and Taehyung ignored it.
"I'm not thousands of years old like you are, can you please speak in a normal language?" Jungkook stated, wanting to get this over with as soon as possible.
"Wow! I admire your bravery, boy." Jiwoong again spoke but this time Taehyung shot him a sharp glare and he respectfully shut himself up.
"Since humans are under the spotlight in this game, it should be something related to them too. I'm fascinated by how human brain works; where it is useful if used wisely, it can be dangerous at the same time if used against you. However, what brings you down is your fears, your anxiety about something particular." his words slowly made sense to Jungkook and he realised where this was going.
"Everyone has different fears and that can bring you down just like this." He snapped his fingers, "so let us teach you how to get over your fears, shall we? If you succeed to escape, you win; if not, you let me have my way with you. Is that a deal?" Taehyung finally finished, holding his hand out for a presumed handshake. He didn't tell much about the details of the game, how could Jungkook just agree to it?
"My friends are in this game too, right? How is it fair if only I get to take the final decision?" Jungkook asked after thinking, while Taehyung's hand was still in the air.
"Very well then, I will let you meet up with them and give you some time to decide. If you are ready, do not go and look for me." his lips slowly and gracefully moved upwards in a mysterious smile, "because I will be keeping an eye on you. I will know everything that is going on." he said and his eyes glanced towards his hand, gesturing Jungkook to shake it.
Jungkook almost rolled his eyes, nonetheless he grasped Taehyung's hand in his in a firm handshake.
Jungkook couldn't feel the warmth in his touch. Taehyung's skin that looked totally normal at first glance, after he had touched it, it was a reality check as the coldness confirmed the truth of him being a vampire; or at least someone who was surely not a human being.
"Jiwoong, lead them back to their friends." Taehyung ordered without glancing at him as he pulled his hand back and walked out of the room without another word.
"Yes, sir." Jiwoong said, more in a dramatic way.
Hobi, who was silent all this time finally sighed, mentally exhausted.
"At least we have some time to think it over." he mumbled as Jungkook helped him get up.
With limping feet, Jungkook supported Hobi and they made their way out of the dark and musty room while Jiwoong trailed behind them.

"I was worried sick." Jin mutters, for a moment, eying jiwoong who seems nonchalant as ever as he chews on something, pretending not to care about anything.
"Well, well... my work is done but do not be relaxed as I will be keeping an eye on you all. Don't do anything stupid and get yourself killed, okay?" He says, glancing at each and every person present in the room.
"We're not running away anyways." Yoongi says, waving his hand as to suggest jiwoong to leave after he has finally brought jungkook and hobi back to the house.
Jiwoong rolls his eyes as he disappears with a whoosh in the air; like he wasn't there just a second ago.
"Woah!" Jimin chuckles but soon stops himself when yoongi glares at him.
"How could this be actually happening?! Does anyone of your phones still work?" Yoongi asks as soon as jiwoong is out of sight.
"I checked but there's no signal." Jin said, again unlocking his phone to see if it has started working properly or not.
"And mine is dead." Jimin said, plopping down on the couch.
"I don't think they will let us get away so easily, hyung. Think about it, everything must be well planned, we have nowhere to go with no contact with the world." Jungkook points out, turning the gears of his brain to storm put some ideas or anything that can help them.
"First of all, what was all that about? Did he do something to you both?" Yoongi asks, glancing at hobi's injured feet.
Jungkook and hobi explains them about the whole scenario that took place in the vampire's mansion, about the deal taehyung talked about.
"What kind of creepy game is that?" Jin grimaces, face twisting into a disgusting expression.
"Hyung, that's not even considered a game, that's literally an invitation for us to go and get ourselves killed somewhere in the dark forest where we will be feasted upon by a bunch of vampires." Jimin spats like bullets firing form his mouth.
"Yaah, yaah! You know that they can hear you, don't you?" Jin narrows his eyes at him, "we'll be killed before we get a chance to play that game If you keep talking shit." He exhales, tiredly.
"Oh, if he wanted to kill us from the start, why does he still haven't? I don't think it's that simple." Yoongi says, taking his time to think about each word that escapes from his mouth.
"I agree." Jungkook doesn't budge from his place.
"It's all because of me." Hobi, who was keeping his mouth shut all time, speaks as his voice sounds low, almost broken.
"If I wasn't a fool and went out of my way before that shadow without telling anyone, this wouldn't have happened." His voice breaks, eyes brimming with tears.
"What? No, hyung. Listen! Even if you hadn't gone out like that, he was still planning to trick us all along, you know that. If not you, he would have found another plan to trick us into his trap. Don't take the blame on yourself." Jungkook tries to comfort him but it only makes hobi choke on his words.
"But, I'm still at fault." He drops down, plopping on the couch beside jimin, his hands covering his face. He looks sad.
"It's not entirely your fault. Get yourself together." Jin puts his hand on his shoulder, gently giving him a few pats of confirmation and comfort.
"You guys don't have to play that game, it happened because of me, I can... I can do something to convince him. He will probably let you all go if I turn myself in, right?" Hobi looks up, eyes distressed, face saddened as he gulps down his chocked words.
"You're not the one he wants, hyung. It's not you but me. I was the one who is to blame for all this mess. However, if you sit here, crying your eyes out, it's not gonna help us. I believe, if he has given us a chance, we should take it as an opportunity." Jungkook says, looking at everyone.
"You're right. He wants jk, not us. If jk turns himself in, there's no guarantee he'd let us go back safely and if we play the game, there's a chance we can save ourselves and even if he breaks his promise to let us go after we've won the game and kill us, at least we would be able to say that we tried our best." Yoongi puts the words in his head together, trying to explain, trying to make sense.
"Yes, if we're gonna get killed at the end, why not try our best? Because one thing is sure, I'm not letting jungkook or anyone do some shitty sacrifice for God's sake! That already sounds cliche." Jin reasons, like final words of this discussion.
"That makes sense. I'm in." Jimin says, nodding his head in approval.
"It's decided then. We'll do this together." Jungkook says, somehow his voice is full of confidence as he enthusiastically gestures hobi to cheer up.
Hobi smiles, still tired but he feels better now.
"Get some rest. He has given us some time so we might as well just make a good use of it. We'll need extra energy for these upcoming hours... or probably days." Yoongi suggests.
"I'm hungry as fuck. We should eat something too-" jimin says, going over to the refrigerator to find something to eat. "-before there's no time to eat." He takes his time, searching for food while the others do their own thing.
Yoongi taking a nap as usual and jin comes to help jimin; he probably wants to make something so that everyone can eat a proper meal.
