45. A Human

The sunlight finally filtered through the soft fabric of curtains, falling over Jungkook's sleeping face. Taehyung admired his sweetheart in silence since he was already awake.
The sun rays penetrated the younger's dark hair, making them appear softer and lighter than usual, making Taehyung's hands itch to run along the fluffy mass of hair. He chuckled, noticing how at peace Jungkook looked to be while sleeping, as if he wasn't whining shamelessly to Taehyung just the previous night.
Whatever had happened the that night came flooding back in Taehyung's mind as he caressed Jungkook's back, fingers gliding over the smooth skin. He was delighted to have Jungkook in his arms as he slept.
"Mhm," Jungkook stirred in his sleep. Oh no, had Taehyung woken him up?
"Are you awake?" he let out in his, yet sleepy, raspy voice and continued to stroke his back.
Jungkook hummed again, eyes still closed as he snuggled closer. The cold touch wasn't as unusual to him anymore, instead it gave him a strange comfort.
"Go back to sleep," he said lovingly.
But Jungkook remembered something and opened his eyes.
"We need to read the book," hands pressing onto Taehyung's bare chest, he looked up at him, eyes still half asleep.
Taehyung sighed, almost groaning, "you really are impatient, are you not?"
Of course he was! It had been quite a few chapters now and he was getting no where near the book!
"I want to know," he blinked, "don't you?"
"Alright, let us read it," Taehyung gave up, and got ready to get up, leaving a small kiss on Jungkook's forehead.
They weren't going to waste any more time now.
They finished their morning routine and after a quick breakfast, Taehyung put the book in front of Jungkook.
Jungkook breathed out, a little anxious.
"It is going to be alright, sweetheart," Taehyung caught on his discomfort in no time.
Although he wanted to know what the book had to offer, he was also anxious about what the future might turn out to be like if they make a wrong choice.
But, Taehyung's words made him feel a little better.
"This is the same book that you read before, right?" Taehyung asked.
"Yes," he answered shortly, eyes fixed upon the old, brown book.
"Let us see," Taehyung said, flipping open the cover page.
The first page, then the next and the next...
As they sat side by side, reading through the rather thick book, Jungkook was starting to get impatient. The other pages were about just some random forest phenomenon, like the one he experienced on that night. Various other animals and tree species were described too, which was kind of boring for both of them.
"What are we even supposed to find in here? There's just so much information."
"Where did you read about the lake?" Taehyung asked after being silent for a while.
"I may find it if I look through it," Jungkook took the book in his hands, quickly looking through it, the fragile pages were on the verge of being ripped off.
"Ah, found it!" he exclaimed, giving the book back to Taehyung, "here,"
"I think there ought to be something around here,"
He glided his finger over the lines, searching for anything unusual as he mumbled the words out.
"The phenomena of moonless night concealed within the dense woods, surrounded by the glowing miracles, under the water surface-"
"That's it! This is what made me do all those crazy stuff." Jungkook yelled out suddenly, pointing at the book, annoyed.
Taehyung paused, "what is this, sweetheart? This is also the reason we are sitting here, together, right now. Are you not happy?" he leaned towards him, eyes sad.
"W-what? No, that's not what I-"
"If you ask me, I would say, I am the happiest because it brought you to me. If you hadn't been a little fool and followed what has written here, we would have never met. Does that not sound terrible to imagine?" he continued speaking, cutting Jungkook off half way.
His face got closer and closer to the younger's as he very consciously rubbed their noses together.
"I'm... I'm not a fool, I just wanted to do whatever I can for my dad," he gulped, not sure how to maintain the eye contact. Taehyung's glimmering eyes were right in front of him.
Taehyung sighed, leaning back, "you are allowed to be a fool, just do not put yourself in danger." he then put an affectionate hand on his head, giving his hair a little ruffle before returning his eyes back to the book.
"Well, we can't help it sometimes," he muttered away, lips forming a little pout.
But Taehyung didn't listen to him. Or did he? He didn't say anything and kept reading.
"Taehyung?" Jungkook called out, seeing him lost in the book.
Did he perhaps find something useful?
"Hah! There is no way..." he said in a small yet clear voice, shutting the book close.
"What? What did you read?" Jungkook perked up on his place, grabbing the book and flipping the pages till he found what Taehyung was reading.
He had already read the page before where it was written about the glowing miracles, so he moved onto the next page.
'Controlling the never ending power of dark forest, living together in harmony with mother nature, if one still wants to return the privileges back to its root, there may be a way.'
"God damn, why does it gotta be so complicated?" Jungkook complained but kept reading.
'The crimson flower can be sought out by one's greatest bravery. Consuming every last bits of its dark red pulp is the only way. One may find it submerged under the dark waters of the very prestigious crimson lake, but before one dares, he may ask for the permission from the great owner.'
By the mention of crimson lake's owner, Jungkook glanced at Taehyung. And the vampire looked at him with his eyes saying, yes, that owner would be me.
He then continued to read further.
'Only when one has the permission can he proceed to penetrate the dark waters. The procedure must take place on the night of full moon, under the blessings of full moon. One must ensure that the flower is conquered with utmost respect. Once it has been plucked out, it will start to deteriorate and so, it must be consumed before the sun rises. If one fails to do this, a disaster might fall upon him. Crimson flower is a blessing but it can also turn into a curse if not handled with care.'
"Holy shit, what is this?" Jungkook clearly couldn't understand it.
"Read ahead," Taehyung said calmly.
'With this, one will be able to return the power of holy spirits to its respectful origin only with pure intentions. One will not be able to perform any activities as a vampire anymore. One agrees to return all the privileges back to mother nature and may be able to live a normal life. Make sure, your intentions must be pure.'
"T-this... this means you can be-"
"A human," Taehyung finished his sentence, eyes somewhat anxious, mirroring Jungkook's.
Now he realised the meaning behind the mother nature's words. This was the answer to their problem. If he became a human, there will be no walls between Jungkook and him. No restrictions keeping them stressed and scared all the time. This is also why mother nature told him about how their meeting in the mansion could be the last one. It was kind of sad!
"How is that possible?!" Jungkook asked, putting the book aside and clasping Taehyung's hands in his.
"I do not know," he replied, looking down in frustration.
"But, when I tried the other thing from this book, it didn't work, right? How can we trust this? And also, I don't think it's fair for you to give up on being a vampire just because-" he didn't know what to say and paused, eyes unfocused.
"I can... do it for you, Jungkook." he calmly said, but it was clear that he was trying hard to control his expressions.
"No!! I don't want you to, Tae. The forest... it's your home, if you leave everything behind, how is it fair? Will you be able to be happy like that? I know you love this place so much and I don't want to be the reason you lose everything that you've build all these years."
"Okay, let us calm down, hm? We can talk things out calmly." Taehyung said in a comforting voice after seeing him getting overwhelmed.
"But-"
"It is alright, we can take our time." Taehyung hugged him, temporarily calming him down.
It was obviously not a very easy decision to make and even if Taehyung really was capable of doing anything for Jungkook, he still didn't want to make any reckless choices.
"I will talk about this with Namjoon hyung first, is that okay?" he asked, caressing Jungkook's back.
"Alright," he replied, sighing.
This wasn't going to be easy.

"Seokjin, have you felt anything strange over the past few days?" Namjoon asked, taking a seat on the sofa chair.
The room was empty, Jin wasn't expecting Namjoon to show up so suddenly and that's why he was in his pajamas in the bed.
"Strange?" he asked, sitting upright, fixing his shirt.
"You have been feeling alright, yes? If there is anything strange you have experienced with your body, you must tell me. You need to stay healthy." he explained.
"Oh... by strange, you mean this?"
"Of course, what else can I mean?" Namjoon stood up, "wait, what did you think I was implying here?" he crossed his arms in front his chest.
"What? Nothing," Jin refused to back down and didn't say anything.
"Well, by strange, it can also mean..." Namjoon started to speak, taking steps towards the bed.
Jin visibly stiffened, adjusting himself on the bed and looking around hopelessly.
Oh boy!
"...the thing you experienced after waking up this morning. What did you dream about Seokjin-ah?" Namjoon had this really sly smile on his face that made him look so arrogant.
It seriously made Jin's blood boil. He shouldn't tolerate such an insult. Could Namjoon really see what people dreamt about? If true, it was beyond embarrassing.
"You don't have to be embarrassed, Seokjin, it is quite normal to feel this way as I was the one who turned you into a vampire. I have consumed your blood after all,"
"Ahh!! Stop!! Don't come any closer, don't speak a word," Jin suddenly yelled, covering his face with the duvet he was holding onto all this time.
"Why so? Are you shy now? Don't be!" he was now standing at the foot of the bed, gripping the duvet by one hand as he pulled it, forcing Jin to let go of it.
"Oh, come on! Let me off the hook! It's embarrassing," Jin whined, not believing how he behaved in front of Namjoon.
Namjoon never really complained though! He was actually amused everytime he had to deal with Jin and his stubborn ass.
"How can I, when you're so entertaining?"
"Wow!? Yaah! I can't believe I have to put up with your arrogant ass being all authoritative because you saved my life. I didn't ask for it, did I? Although I have some courtesy to give you some respect for whatever you did, aren't you being a bit too cocky here? Entertaining? Am I just a toy to you? Wow, you're so-"
"Oh my god, calm down, you little devil!" Namjoon was still amazed and couldn't help but laugh.
"Little devil?! You're still-" Jin was flailing his arms at this point, not even caring about his image.
"Oh god, Seokjin, if you don't shut up, I am going to give you a kiss right now! Are you trying to tempt me?" Namjoon grabbed his hands and because Jin was still struggling, he ended up falling onto the bed. They both stumbled down the soft mattress.
"What are you going to do now?" Namjoon propped himself up by his hands which were gripping onto Jin's wrists.
"Let me go,"
"What if I don't want to? I like it here! The view is nice too-"
Knock! Knock!
They both paused, embarrassed because of being interrupted.
"Get off now!" Jin whispered.
"Don't be so happy. I can always just start where we left off. I will see you later." he then got up, clearing his throat before opening the door.
"Hyung, can we talk for a moment if you are not busy?"
It was Taehyung!
