38. Meeting his fate
┈━ ◇ ━┈
The clouds rumbled with terrifying uproar, sky splitting lightnings filled the vast canvas as Taehyung held Jungkook in his arms, motionless.
A tear rolled down his eyes again, being one with the trail of previous tears on his cheek and meets the sharp curve of his jaw. The rumbling intensified at the same time, the rain starting to pour down on earth with an increasing pace.
Meanwhile, Namjoon was busy searching for Jiwoong.
"Kim Jiwoong!! What have you done?" his eyes were not focused, stress was evident on his face as he looked at Jiwoong, who was seated nonchalantly.
"Hyung, what are you even on about?"
Jiwoong had been sitting in his room all along when Namjoon found him. It was so easy to find him that he thought, it was another one of his tricks.
"Are you seriously acting oblivious right now? Taehyung has been sitting there devastated-"
"Taehyung this, Taehyung that, blah blah blah!" he rolled his eyes, making Namjoon even angrier, and continued, "why is he all you worry about?" at that, he stood up.
"If you were aware of the fact that he is a really important part of our family, you would not dare say this, Jiwoong. Why did you do it? You promised not to cross the line, did you not?" Namjoon's voice was pained, it shook with tremors. He could probably see the future with wide open eyes.
But Jiwoong only scoffed, "If I could... I still wouldn't have changed the things I did, and still would have ended up like this anyways."
"Why are you saying it like that? He has done so much for us all, why would you-"
"I don't want to hear a word about what gracious things he did for us, hyung." he turned away, facing the window.
"If something was to happen to him, this place will go into ruins." Namjoon argued further.
"But it didn't happen. He's still fine, is he not?" he turned back around, eyes cold, "I hate that I live in a place which belongs to him and revolves around him. Is he a God? The answer would definitely be no. I don't get why I have to listen to what he says-"
"Because that's what father chose for us." Namjoon was serious, voice stern.
Jiwoong went silent for a moment too. This was the limit. He couldn't go against his father's words. That was also the reason why he was still living with Taehyung and Namjoon.
"Oh, I almost forgot." Jiwoong laughed, a bitter and loud sound reverberating in the room, "I still have to do what father chose for us."
"Jiwoong-"
"You are right, hyung." he took a step ahead, "let's go and meet my fate." and disappeared from right in front of his eyes.
Namjoon could feel his chest tighten when he saw a glimpse of faint light in Jiwoong's eyes as he vanished. Why had this day come in their lives? But he was helpless and the time was running out.

"Why?" was the only word that slid through his tongue as soon as he saw Jiwoong.
The walls of the living room shuddered with fear, as if it was really trembling as the voice echoed around them.
"I just helped him stay here longer. That's what he wanted anyways. Why am I always in the wrong?" Jiwoong shrugged. Unlike his words, his face was stiff, a hint of uncertainty and anxiety was present in his expressions.
"You have done it now." Taehyung stood up after carefully placing Jungkook down on the ground, "hyung," he then turned to Namjoon.
"Listen, Taehyung-"
"Do you also think that now is the time for our Jiwoong to say goodbye?" his eyes found the said vampire's again.
"Oh, that's all you have been telling me all these years. We should really put an end to it now." Jiwoong didn't back down, taking a step ahead instead.
"That is right, you bastard." and in a blink of an eye, Jiwoong was yanked in by Taehyung.
Jiwoong clenched his jaw, looking dead into Taehyung's eyes as he was being held by his collar.
"Taehyung, please calm down." Namjoon still tried to keep things in control while knowing too well that it wouldn't work this time.
"Take Jungkook back to my room, hyung." he ordered Namjoon, eyes still fixed on Jiwoong.
"But,"
"Right now!" he spared him a glance before he could question anything further.
"Okay," was what the older said before quickly doing what he was told.
"Well then, now that your savior is out of the way, shall you speak yourself or do I make you?" Taehyung's eyes were practically emitting heat because of how bright it was glowing with rage.
"What is there to speak, master?" Jiwoong's voice was filled with resentment and sarcasm, it only added fuel to the fire.
"What wrong have I done to you for you to hate me this much?" Taehyung's hold tightened around his collar, but eyes were teary.
"Hate you?" but in return, Jiwoong scoffed and pushed his hand away, "I couldn't hate you even when I tried. I was working hard to get accepted as a real family but you never trusted me. You're still worried about a human more than your own-"
"Do brothers harm each other's loved ones? Do they, Jiwoong? And with what you have done, no explanation will be sufficient to prove your point." if it was something else, Taehyung would have let it go like all the previous times but not this one. Jiwoong had crossed a line he shouldn't have and he wasn't even pretending to be guilty about it.
"I told you, I'm just helping him stay here longer. Weren't you going to force him to leave anyways?" his words were harsh and he didn't care about what he was saying anymore.
"What I do is my business, who are you to interfere? Did I not tell you to stay away from him?"
"You just hate me, don't you?"
"I tried not to, but after this, I definitely do." Taehyung shook his head, fingers curled up in a tight fist as the skies rumbled again, the shattering sound almost made Jiwoong flinch.
Was he going to regret doing all of this? Was he even guilty to begin with?
"Then why don't you just kill me and put an end to this, huh?" he eyes were really just a blank void.
"I will," with that being said, Taehyung aimed for the other's throat, clutching the air our of his lungs in one quick movement.
"But, what if your lover will never be able to wake up once I'm gone-"
"What the fuck are you on about?" he pushed him onto the wall, earning a pained grunt from him.
"Don't you wonder why he hasn't woken up yet?" there was a faint smile on his lips which pissed Taehyung off even more.
"Would you speak up clearly?" he yanked him, only to smash his head back onto the wall.
Jiwoong just laughed while coughing, "you really are crazy and blind in love. There's no use in saving you. There's really no use of..." his smile never faded but his eyes watered, spilling the tears all over his face.
Taehyung looked at him with raged yet troubled eyes, confusion evident on his face.
"I could see why father favored you so much. Why he never told you, nor even let you feel that you weren't his son-"
"W-what?" the words came out with hesitation as he waited for Jiwoong to continue.
"He lied," a chuckle left his almost crushed vocal cords, "he fucking lied about it. He never told you anything. Namjoon hyung didn't want to take on the family throne, so rightfully, I was the one who should have got it after him. Do you know why?" he was still laughing, interrupted by occasional fits of cough.
"That is b-"
"It's not bullshit, Kim Taehyung." at this point, Taehyung's hold on Jiwoong's throat loosened and he let him go.
"Stop deceiving me like you always do." Taehyung spat with disbelief.
"I was the one who was deceived. I'm the one who was his biological child but what did he do?" he scoffed, "he gave you everything and I was left alone on my own. But it's okay, I didn't complain because I saw you as my own brother even though you were not."
It was all too much to take for Taehyung, which made him stunned on his place as he gaped at Jiwoong.
"Shocked, aren't you? It's funny, it's almost funny how you had no idea about all of this." he took a step, then another as he erased the distance between Taehyung and him and whispered, "are you angry?"
Taehyung was quiet, jaw clenched and eyes fixed.
"I was too!" Jiwoong suddenly yelled out, "I thought, it was okay as long as we were part of the same family. I was even happy when you took over the throne, but what did I get in return?" his voice slowly returned back to normal, "you never looked at me, you never trusted me. I was a fool, I loved you enough to make a fool of myself." he pointed harshly at his own chest, eyes bulging out of its socket.
"Why have you been silent all this time then?" Taehyung finally found his words back.
"Why? Because that father of mine chose this for me. I was naive, I should have never made the promise. He made me swear to my mother to never go against his words. You've seen my mother, haven't you? She was a human too. A frail and dainty human being, for whom, father embraced death with a smile on his face. I loved my mother, but I've hated humans ever since." the hatred in his voice was capable enough to make anyone's skin crawl.
As Taehyung heard him use the words 'my mother', 'my father', he couldn't help but feel sad and jealous. He felt wronged. It wasn't his fault that his father lied to him, nor was the fact that it all happened when he had no idea what his purpose in life was! He was just an innocent creature, trying to adapt to the vampire world back then.
"You could have hated all the other humans in the world, Jiwoong," Taehyung's face contorted into a furrowed mess, "why Jungkook? Why him? You could have taken your revenge on me," he put a hand on his chest, clutching his shirt, "not him, not him." and shook his head while the tears rolled down.
Seeing him like this, anyone would be able to say just how hard it was for Taehyung to let his vulnerable self be out in the open like that.
"I think, this is for the better," Jiwoong's smile still reached his eyes, "seeing you like this makes it all worth it. I hit the right spot." his smile was enough to trigger Taehyung.
"You fucker, I do not care what your problem was and why you did it, I want him safe and alive. I want him back." he stormed back to him, pinning his head on the wall once again.
Was Jiwoong really just trying to provoke him?
"Kill me and test your luck out. I'm sure Namjoon hyung has a cure for his allergic reaction, unlike you, he knows me well. You're free to kill me. You are right, I was just deceiving you, you don't need me anymore."
"Are you going to blackmail me now? Just because you are hyung's brother, I will not spare you."
"I'm not trying to,"
"Taehyung, please stop." Namjoon interrupted them, coming back to the living room. The rain was already pouring hard, strong wind making the trees sway violently.
"I am sorry hyung, but please stay out of this. I cannot tolerate him anymore." Taehyung didn't look back at Namjoon and his hands found their way to Jiwoong's neck.
There was a crack, mixed with the sound of Jiwoong's distorted laugh. If this goes on, he was sure to meet his end today.
"Taehyung," Namjoon whispered, not daring to take a step ahead while Taehyung's aura was so dominant that it could physically hurt him, and his eyes were flaring with bright light.
"Kim Taehyung," Jiwoong's hands trailed up to touch Taehyung's trembling fists as he caressed them, "I r-really did want to help him.. and you. If you want, check out the library in Hoseok's grandfather's mansion, there's a book for you-"
Taehyung's own eyes were filled with anger and yet it shone with tears. After all, he never thought he'd be putting an end to someone's life. That someone was a person he thought was a part of his family. He never hated him enough to throw him out, despite Jiwoong's obnoxious and reckless personality, he had tried to accept him.
"You never did, but I once loved you, w-" a sudden pain left him coughing but he still continued, "with- all my heart, Taehyung." he then gently, weakly tapped on his hand, eyes on the verge of closing on their own accord.
"Taehyung, please listen to me, don't kill him, spare him, please, I beg you."
"I am not doing this for myself, if I let him go like I always have, I will have to live with a guilt," he looked at Namjoon, who was already on the verge of breaking down, "guilt of not providing justice for my sweetheart. If he is to never wake up, what shall I do? Where shall I go?"
Namjoon knew that he was right but his heart was still full of pain and why wouldn't it be? Jiwoong was his own brother after all.
"Tell me hyung, do you think his actions are justified?" as he spoke, the pressure on Jiwoong's neck increased and Namjoon's heart ached even more.
But he had to answer honestly, "n-no," with that, a lonely tear escaped his eyes. He had to accept it.
Namjoon clenched his eyes closed as Taehyung put all of his weight and strength on Jiwoong. There was no way for him to stop Taehyung anymore.
