28. Warmth in coldness
┈━ ◇ ━┈
"Mind telling me, where are we going?"
"Hold on tightly. You do not want to get lost in darkness." Taehyung's voice echoed in the emptiness.
"That's not what I asked, Taehyung." yet, unwillingly, Jungkook tightened his hold around the sleeves of Taehyung's crisp white, victorian shirt.
The innocent boy inside Jungkook, who was curious, had decided to follow Taehyung to find out what he was going to show him.
But, now that he was following him from behind, clutching on his shirt in the darkness where he couldn't even see his own hand, he was kind of regretting it. Because this meant, he had to rely on Taehyung no matter what he did, where he went. This made him feel vulnerable.
"Here you go," and Taehyung suddenly stopped, making Jungkook halt on his steps.
Jungkook was ready with his questions when a door clicked open and swung to the side, blinding him for a short moment. Soon, the brigh light subsided and he could now see a room ahead of them.
"Go ahead." Taehyung ordered.
"Is this... the end?" Jungkook refused to let go, looking at the vampire standing in front of him.
Was he scared? He did think about the possibility of being led to a trap on his way there but what other choice did he have? He trusted Taehyung again, and now he was standing here.
"Aren't you going with me?" he tried his luck, putting his pride aside.
"Of course, sweetheart." Taehyung's hand reached out to him, silently sneaking it around his own as he took Jungkook's hand in his, "after you!" he then let go of his hand, making way for him to enter the room.
Jungkook didn't have any more words. He was again confused. He shouldn't be trusting Taehyung in the first place but strangely, there was a part of him which was relieved after hearing Taehyung's words, his honey-like voice.
So he did what he could and entered the room followed by Taehyung.
"Oh, if it isn't our sweetheart!" a voice welcomed him, and it didn't feel sarcastic.
"Have you been bathing him in your scent, Taehyung?" the man continued to speak as he got up from his chair, chuckling, "I can barely smell him now." his voice was cheerful and Jungkook recognised it.
"That is good to hear, Namjoon hyung." Taehyung sneaked a teasing hand around Jungkook's waist as he spoke, startling him.
An almost inaudible gasp made its way through Jungkook's lips before he tried to push Taehyung away.
He didn't know what all this was about. What was the deal with his scent?
"By the sound of your voice, I feel it good to assume that the things are going smoothly." Taehyung voluntarily let go of Jungkook's struggling, squirming figure as he stepped closer to Namjoon.
"Sure they are! Let me lead the way." he then started walking, leading them to a hallway.
Jungkook felt like this was nothing but just a big maze of elegant looking buildings and mansions.
"Let's go, sweetheart." Taehyung glanced back at him and Jungkook finally moved his feet.
"Jeez! It's embarrassing, stop calling me nicknames. It's as if I'm your toy." he mumbled, well aware of the fact that Taehyung can hear him just perfectly.
Isn't he though? But, let's leave it to them for deciding.
"What's with all the suspense anyways?" he kept mumbling until they reached another door which was quickly opened by Namjoon.
"He is not awake yet, but you can see him."
"Uh, you're talking to me?" Jungkook asked Namjoon who was standing at the doorframe as he pointed a finger towards his chest.
"Yes," his lips were curved up in a small smile.
His curiosity was at its peak. Taehyung wasn't saying anything too, so he decided to take a look inside.
The room was lit by candles, hanging on the ancient looking candleholders, yet it was still beautiful.
It was a fairly large room with a comfortable bed situated in the middle, accompanied by some fairy-white curtains which hung on the windows as well as around the bed.
"Take a look inside." Namjoon encouraged him to take a peek inside the curtains.
"Who is it?" Jungkook hesitated for a little, glancing at Taehyung for reassurance and slowly moved the fabric aside.
"What the-" he was taken aback. Quite literally. His feet stumbled on nothing and he fell back, if not for Taehyung stabilising him by holding his arms, he would fall flat on his butt.
"Taehyung? Why.. how is he- why is Jin hyung here?" the way his eyes welled up with tears, almost instantly, had Taehyung rethinking his decisions.
"Jungkook, we were trying to keep him alive but that was a dangerous procedure and we..." Namjoon glanced at Taehyung for a second before continuing, "we had to convert him into a vampire."
The colour on Jungkook's face all drained out as his eyes went wide. "What?"
"Calm down." Taehyung turned him around, still holding him close.
"But, you said he was gone." the brimming tears trickled down on Jungkook's smooth cheeks, staining them, "Tae, you said there was no way to bring him back. What is this? Why do you keep lying to me?" and then he pushed him.
"Listen to me,"
Jungkook scoffed, "but then again, I shouldn't have trusted your word. All you do is lie. You keep deceiving me, every step I take feels calculated by you." he took a step back with every word he spoke.
"You probably lied about many other things which I don't even know about yet, didn't you?"
"Listen to me first," Taehyung came forward to stop him, holding his hands into his bigger ones.
"I was not sure about the success rate of this procedure. Yes, I did lie about it. I told you that Jin could not make it and that I could do nothing about it, but it was for your own good."
"For my own good? What are you talking about? You made him a vampire? A bloody vampire, like you all? Did you ask me? Did you ask him if he wanted to be?"
"Calm down, sweetheart, please." his voice was visibly softer than ever.
"No, I can't-" he continued to push Taehyung away but it wasn't working.
"Hyung," Taehyung threw him a sideway glance and Namjoon understood.
"I will be outside." he then walked away, closing the door behind him.
"What did you do to him? Why is he unconscious? When will he wake up?" all while Jungkook was weeping, his words didn't stop and he kept on asking him. He was yearning for some explanation, some reassurance that everything was fine and that Jin was going to be okay, just like he used to be.
But, maybe it was already too late. Jungkook could say it from the look in Taehyung's glistening eyes.
"I hate you, Taehyung. I hate you so much." he broke down, for the second time in front of him. This was beyond embarrassing.
"Why aren't you saying anything? God damn it, Tae-"
"Shh!" before Jungkook could protest, a finger was kept firmly on his lips, shutting him up. But he wasn't going to stop so easily.
He moved his face to the side with a swift motion, ignoring Taehyung.
"Look at me," the older demanded softly.
"I said, look at me, sweetheart." this time, he was stern but Jungkook was so busy shedding tears that he didn't realise the seriousness in Taehyung's voice. He was hurt, and needed some time to grasp the situation.
"You are asking for it," his forearms were still in a firm grip in Taehyung's hands as he looked back at him after listening to his words.
But he had very little time to process before Taehyung was closer to him than he had ever been. He was now in no position to utter a word as he found himself shut up by Taehyung's lips. They were cold, firm yet gentle and soft which got his heart tingling with warmth.
It was such an irony. In contrast to Taehyung's cold hands on Jungkook's cheeks, they were heating up with every passing second. And he had no control over his body and how it reacted to Taehyung's touch.
It was so frustrating and Jungkook's anger got the best of him when Taehyung ignored Jungkook's taps on his arm. He was not going to stop anytime soon as he moved his lips on the younger's stiff ones, hands keeping his face stable.
"No-" Jungkook managed to let out as he pushed Taehyung aside which didn't work quite efficiently.
"Not until you calm the fuck down and listen to me properly." Taehyung was not having it. He dived back in, taking Jungkook's trembling lower lip inside, nibbling on it for a while as if he was going to devour him.
He was being gentle but since Jungkook was too much in rage to understand, he felt humiliated and used. He was yanked in by Taehyung who now put his hands around the other's torso, pulling him closer.
Soon enough, Jungkook realised that Taehyung's moves were getting slower and gentler, thus he found himself getting engulfed in the feeling.
His mind slowly calmed down and he started moving his lips, trying to sync it with Taehyung's colder ones. He gulped when Taehyung tilted his head, rubbing slow, small circles on his waist to show his encouragement.
His touch ignited a fire within him which slowly seemed to be moving closer to the pit of his stomach and the thin fabric of his shirt wasn't helping his situation. It was as if there was nothing between his skin and Taehyung's hand. He felt himself wanting more. This didn't sound good to his rational part of the brain.
"That's like my good boy," Taehyung moved away, still within Jungkook's reach. If he wanted to, he could just move an inch and kiss him again.
And he did just that, but his confidence ran slim and he could only give him a sloppy smooch which lasted just for a second or two.
Taehyung, who was looking at him with stiff, narrowed eyes, instantly broke into a smile. Jungkook's ears tingled with spreading warmth as he watched Taehyung smile. It was a teasing kind of smile but he could feel his heart lighten up when Taehyung patted him on the head.
"Oh god, what the fuck have I done?" the instant regret and embarrassment got to him and he had no other option than burying his face into his hands.
"It's alright, sweetheart." Taehyung's hands lingered a bit too much on the nape of Jungkook's neck, ruffling and playing with the hair which curled around his finger obediently.
"No, it's not and you're going to explain everything. Right now!" Jungkook finally looked up, face still flushed but he endured Taehyung's gaze and stepped away from him.
"As you wish, darling. Take a seat." Taehyung went ahead and sat down on a sofa chair.
"Huh? But there's no other chair." Jungkook checked again, circling his eyes around the room.
"How could you say that? Your seat is right here." Taehyung gestured him to sit down on his lap.
If he could, Jungkook wanted to dig his own grave right now.
"N-no way-"
"I am only kidding, sweetheart." he was having fun, teasing Jungkook now and then without any mercy. A snap of his fingers and another chair was laid out beside his own. Jungkook took his seat.
"Listen and try to understand. I told you that there was no way to bring him back because I was contemplating what to do. I will be honest, I could not see you suffering just because of a mistake from my side, I wanted to make it up to you. But could I do it without doing this? There was no other way to bring your friend back."
Jungkook tried his best to be rational and understand him the best he could.
"I could not give you false reassurance before I was sure about this myself. There was no guarantee that this will work out but fortunately, Namjoon hyung would never disappoint me and I knew it. I was just waiting for the right time to tell you about this."
Jungkook sighed, "is he going to be okay?"
"Yes, I can now assure you. If everything works out perfectly, he will be awake within few more weeks." Jungkook was still not completely satisfied by the answer.
"You can trust Namjoon hyung, he will take care of Jin, hm?" this was the softest Taehyung had ever been for anyone in his entire life and he wasn't regretting it too.
"You can take a good look at him if you want to." Taehyung gestured him to get up through his eyes.
Jungkook did as he was told, gently putting the curtains aside as he peeked inside.
It hurt to see him unconscious but at least he was now out of danger. Thanks to Taehyung.
No, he shouldn't be thanking him. It all happened because of him. Doing this won't justify his actions.
Jungkook still had a lot of questions but he would like to wait for a while before asking Taehyung. He wanted to think more about this whole situation.
Jin's complexion was really pale as if all the blood was drained out of his body but overall, he looked okay so he was relived.
"Should we head back now? I will let you know about his condition if anything worth mentioning happens."
"Hmm," Jungkook silently averted his gaze and followed Taehyung out of the room.
"Take care of him." Taehyung didn't forget to alert Namjoon on their way out.
As they walked in silence, only the noise of Taehyung's shoes creaking on the floor was heard and the darkness soon enveloped them.
Taehyung quickly guided Jungkook's hand closer to his body as he intertwined their fingers but Jungkook refused his touch.
"Uh, no thanks." he retrieved his hand back and again grasped Taehyung's shirt, "this is enough."
Taehyung didn't say a word and continued walking.
Maybe, he did a mistake by kissing Jungkook?
