Chapter Seven
Even though I've seen pretty much every single vampire movie, besides Nosferatu, I still decided to do some internet research on vampires. It was super fun! But now onto the story! Enjoy~
Ellie's POV
I woke up to see a message on my phone from Skyler. It read, "Hey Ellie, I'm sorry but something came up and I won't be able to take you home from school today, really sorry."
I sighed, upset but also annoyed that I'd have to walk home through the woods again. I didn't want to be mad at Skyler, but the obvious fact that I did not want to see Xander did not help.
Thinking Caroline might be able to give me a ride, I texted her. I got an immediate response of, "I can't, sorry. Josh and I are going on a date after school."
"Ughhhh," I groaned. "I wish I had a car."
Walking out of my room, I peaked my head into my parents room. They weren't there, meaning they had already left early for work. They had been kind of busy with work lately.
I went back through my room to the bathroom and got undressed for my shower. I needed to clear my head, and a nice hot shower is the way to do it.
Once the water reached a reasonable temperature, I stepped in and began to wash myself with shower gel before washing my hair with shampoo and conditioner. Once I finished showering, I wrapped myself in my fluffy towel and stepped out to get dressed.
Walking back into my room, I noticed the clock on my nightstand. I only had 20 minutes left, so I quickly threw on some jeans and a long sleeve purple top.
I ran back to the bathroom again to braid my hair and put on a little makeup. I settled with a thin layer of mascara and some lip gloss.
Running out of my room, I packed my bag, and grabbed a toast a saw sitting on the table for me. Even though my parents had to leave so early they made me breakfast. They are the best!
Even after eating the toast, I was still hungry, so I grabbed an orange from the fruit bowl on the counter. I started to peel the orange and eat, as I slipped on my vans.
Opening the door, the freezing air blew in my face making me realize I wasn't wearing a jacket. To be honest, I had no idea where my winter coat was, so I grabbed my moms hoodie that was sitting by the door and left.
I began to walk towards the wood's entrance, but as I drew closer the eerie feeling returned and I shivered, though it might have just been the cold.
Not wanting to confront Xander yet, if at all, I decided to take the bus. But I absolutely hated the bus. It was where the bullying was the most prominent, because Vanessa road my bus, and it was annoying getting squished by whatever kid sat next to you. Especially if it was a Senior. They seem to think they are so special, then again I would probably feel the same way when I was a senior.
I saw the bus had already arrived, and I ran to get on in time. The bus wasn't that full, thank god, so I could sit in an empty seat by myself.
We were almost at school when the bus arrived at the last stop, and on stepped the one and only, bitch of bitches, Vanessa.
"Oh, great," I muttered.
Vanessa's eyes turned right to me, as she smirked and took a seat right beside me.
"Even better," I whispered under my breath.
I turned to look out the window, but I knew that wouldn't stop her from harassing me. She loved to do that. Apparently she didn't have a life.
"So Ellie where did you get your shoes from? The trash?" She mocked, smirking at me.
"No, I didn't. But I couldn't expect you to know such a well know brand since you get your shoes from the dump." I said, smiling back. Wow, I actually landed a nice burn.
A chorus of "Oooh's" and "Burn's" erupted from the people around us, and I couldn't help but smile wide.
I began to chuckle at myself, as she glared at me, and moved to sit next to Amy. I felt proud of myself, but it wouldn't last for long. I had won a battle, now I'd just have to win the war.
We finally arrived at school. As soon as I saw Caroline, I hopped off the bus to go and see her.
"Hi Caroline!" I yelled waving my hand from afar.
"Hey Ellie!" She screamed back.
She walked up, as I began to ask her where Skyler was.
"She didn't tell you?" Caroline asked. I only shook my head and waited for an explanation. "Well she told me she fell down the stairs and need to go to the doctors for her ankle."
"Yikes," I muttered. No wonder she couldn't give me a ride to school. She probably could barley drive if she'd hurt her ankle.
Walking into school, we headed straight to class. I was not prepared for English, for Xander. I had all day to wait anxiously.
•
The day went by excruciatingly slow. Finally making it to last period, I noticed Xander wasn't in class, and I hadn't seen him in the halls. I was partially glad because it meant I wouldn't have to see him on my way home, but that also meant he could be doing something terrible to someone right now. What if he was killing around person!?
The entire class I kept my eyes trained on the door, worried he would walk in, and my plan of not seeing him would be ruined.
I felt myself sigh in relief when the final bell rang, dismissing everyone to go home. I couldn't wait to get even farther away.
Unluckily for me, on my way out of school I bumped into Xander. I felt my entire body lock up in fear. We were surrounded by people, so he couldn't do anything but my body didn't seem to realize that and I completely froze. I was going to die today.
Xander's POV
I wanted to see Ellie, but today I just didn't seem to have the effort to go to school. This is what they called vampire depression. It was the depression of the endless eternity. I'd had several bouts of this vampiric depression in my life. My parents said they used to get it to before they met each other and found their purpose. Now I was just stuck wondering when I would find mine.
My parents would understand my not going to school since I've gone through every year of school at least 7 times in my entire life. I still couldn't figure out why I was doing it for the eighth time.
I think I finally realized Ellie could be the end to my bouts of depression, so I left the house to head towards the school. I would make it in time for the last bell.
Arriving, I waited outside until I saw all the people filing out. Ellie was looking around for someone, but because she wasn't paying attention to where she was walking, she ran right into me. Perfect timing I guess.
The smile on her face fell, and turned into a look of shock and fear. Her heart began in to beat extremely fast, and she seemed to be frozen in place. I was extremely confused, and even concerned but her suddenly fluctuation in emotion.
Her face, usually warm even against the cold, was now pale and lifeless. But I still couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, so I read her thoughts.
It took only one word from her mind to realize why she was frozen in fear. I heard the one word, "vampire".
"Ellie wait can we talk?" I asked, feeling myself break into a nervous sweat. I was dead, so I didn't know how that was possible. You know what, never mind, I don't really know how my entire existence is possible.
My words seemed to take her from her state of shock and she began to talk in a stuttering fearful tone.
"X-Xander, j-just leave me alone," Was all she managed the get out before I grabbed her wrist trying to stop her. Her head whipped back toward me in fear. I hadn't meant to scare her so much.
"Oww Xander! Stop you're hurting me!" I realized how tight my hand was gripped on her wrist and apologized sincerely.
"Ellie, please let me explain!" I begged her. It couldn't end this way.
"No Xander y-you're. . . a monster!" At those words my non existing heart shattered into a million pieces. I thought we were at least friends. I thought she could at least trust me.
I let go of her wrist, and she sped off as fast as her feet could carry her. She knew, and I had to fix that. I couldn't compel her, I wouldn't. She meant too much to me. Almost every other person in my life has died or left me, but I wouldn't let that happen to Ellie.
"Ugh, Xander what the fuck is wrong with you!?" I yelled, stomping off toward the forest where Ellie ran.
I needed to make her believe I wasn't like every other vampire. I needed her to believe I was good. I don't believe in killing the unnecessary. I prefer compelling because it's much easier, not as messy, and less inhumane.
Using my super speed I ran as fast as I could to find her. She was walking home through the woods. I read her thoughts and knew she was scared. Somehow she knew I was following her, but I didn't want to prove her suspicion so I stayed hidden.
I decided it'd be best if I confronted her in a closed space where she couldn't run. Though it might scare her, she needed to know the truth, even if I knew imagined telling her this way.
Again using my super speed I jumped onto her roof, and opened her window. I would wait for her there.
Ellie's POV
I thought I felt Xander's presence, whatever that eerie feeling was. I was afraid. I now know he is a vampire, and I'm afraid of what he could do. No, I'm terrified.
I made my way home through the woods as fast as I could, hoping not to run into him again.
I unlocked the front door to my house with my key, and I walked in, setting my bag on the floor. I exhaled, finally feeling safe.
Entering the kitchen I grabbed a snack for homework. Holding my bag, I made my way to my room.
I thought I heard shuffling, and worried about what awaited me on the other side of the door. Pushing it open, I looked inside, and found everything where I left it, except the window which was halfway open again.
Shutting the window, again, I set down my bag and began my homework. Everything was well until I felt the air chill again.
Spinning around In my chair, I was met with a pair of menacing red eyes. The eyes I once thought were innocent, but down below were red like Satan himself. Xander seemed hurt by those words, as I remembered he could read my thoughts.
"W-what do you want?" I said waveringly.
"We need to talk," was all he answered before putting both of his hands on my arms and holding me down so I couldn't get up. Oh, god, I'm going to die. I'm going to die.
"P-please don't h-hurt me," Was all I could muster before I felt my eyes fill with tears.
"Ellie, I wouldn't ever hurt you! Why would you think that? I- I really like you! I wouldn't ever do something bad to you!" He spat out seemingly angry at my question.
Wait he likes me. He really likes me? I thought-
"I do, Ellie. I really do." Again forgetting that he could read my thoughts I tensed up at his answer.
"B-but you're. . . a monster," I mumbled, though I knew he could hear me.
"I may be a vampire but–"
"You kill people Xander! You killed Mrs. Williams! And I bet that's not even the half of it!" I interrupted him not wanting him to finish. Now I was crying and I was angry.
"Xander just leave! Now!" I yelled at him. His eyes seemed hurt but I didn't care. He loosened his grip before fully letting me go.
I didn't want him near me. What if he was lying? What if he did want to drink all of my blood and kill me too?!
"I didn't lie. And like I said before I would never hurt you Ellie, and I didn't kill Mrs. Williams either." He said before jumping out the once again open window.
I quickly ran over to close and lock the window tight. I didn't want him coming back, but the fact that he had already been invited in hit me like a truck. I'm such and idiot!
