Chapter Nineteen

Ellie's POV

I was about to tell my parents that I would be attending Xander's moms funeral, but I realized had no idea what to say. Of course, my mom would understand, but I had no idea whether or not my dad was aware of vampires existing. You can't exactly go up and say, "Hey mom and dad, I am going to my vampire boyfriends 700 something year old mothers funeral!"

I don't even know what to do if they wanted to come for support. Xander mentioned that there would be a lot of vampires there, so bringing my parents was out of the question! I guess I'll just have to wing it.

I walked into the living room where my mom and dad were sitting together on the couch watching TV.

"Hey mom, dad," I started off casually, "Listen Xander's mom recently passed away. . ." I paused watching them intently. My mother kind of stared at me extremely confused. I couldn't blame her. Hearing that a vampire died was something that literally made no sense.

"They invited me to her private funeral, and I was wondering can I please go? It would mean so much to Xander!" They exchanged glances then looked at me sadly.

"Of course you can go. Does this mean that you two are back together though?" My mom asked with a grin spreading on her face.

"Yes!" I screamed with a large smile on my face.

"That will be five bucks!" My mom said holding out her hand to my father, in which he placed a five dollar bill. I looked at them confused. Had they seriously bet on me?

"Well your mother and I had a bet that you and Xander would get back together within the week, but I bet against it and lost." My mother chuckled and my dad playfully glared.

"True love always finds a way," My mother said holding my hands in looking in my eyes.

"Ew mom, don't get all mushy," I protested her mushiness.

"Fine, Fine. If you don't mind me asking though, what happened to his mother?" My mom asked staring me down.

"Well his mom was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and she just recently passed away."

I made sure to wink at mom so she knew that something else happened. She nodded her head approvingly and winked back.

Though that wasn't the truth, I couldn't help but feel awful. That would have been a better death than being beaten and attacked.

"Make sure to give our condolences." My mom said leaning on my fathers shoulder, as I left the room.

I texted Xander saying it was a success. Thank goodness they didn't ask too many questions. Everything was moving smoothly.

A day later I received a card in the mail stating the day of her funeral. It was going to be held at Xander's house on March 29th at 11:30.

Xander's POV

The invitations had been sent out. Ellie's parents knew nothing more than what was told and Ellie was coming. Everything was in place for the day, but truthfully I rather not have this day at all. I wish she was still here.

My dad had hired someone to come help arrange the back yard. There were several rows of benches, and flowers had been grown throughout the hole garden. My mother loved flowers, especially daffodils and they would be placed in the center.

Her coffin sat upon a pedestal, covered in hundreds of flowers. There was a podium in which someone would walk up and speak. I had a feeling there would be a lot of speeches. I would make one myself, but I don't think I could get through the beginning without choking up.

Who knew an eternity together would be shortened?

The day of the funeral came almost too quickly. Ellie was the first to show up. She wore a short black lacy dress with three quarter sleeves. She had a sparkling silver necklace that matched perfectly with her long earrings that hung by her neck.

Her neck were the blood flowed through faster and faster supplying her body with life. Her gaze was what drifted me from my tempting thoughts, as I slowly walked up and took her hand.

Ellie's POV

Xander took my hand as I noticed his glowing eyes. Was he mad? Or was he hungry?

"Xander, your eyes are red," I said jabbing him in the side with my elbow.

"Oh sorry. It doesn't really matter though because everyone here is a vampire, well except you." He said smiling and watching me.

"Oh, right." I said chuckling nervously. Now I felt even more awkward than before. At least Xander was with me, and I was with him.

We walked through his huge house to the backyard. My mouth hung open as we stepped through the back door.

"Wow this place is amazing!" I said, gawking at everything around me. "It's so beautiful."

There was a large water fountain right as you walked outside. Everything was covered in flowers of all different kinds. It looked like a flower forest. I saw a small pond with Koi fish in it and watched for a minute while they swam around.

Xander picked a rose off a bush and handed it to me, as I pulled it to my nose closing my eyes.

I heard a thud and I opened my eyes to see two boys tackling Xander to the ground. They seemed to be the same age, but Xander was much stronger. Then again you really can't tell a vampires age.

After a few more seconds of wrestling Xander flung them off, and straightened his jacket with a small smile on his face. Who were they?

"They're my twin cousins from my moms side of the family. Their names are Daniel and Andrew. They are only 300 years old though."

I couldn't help but smile. My parents didn't have any siblings, so I never knew what it was like to have cousins and aunts and uncles.

I realized he had read my mind, but I dismissed the thought. Today was about him and his family. I didn't need to patronize him about an issue as simple as mind reading.

Before Xander and I could walk away, he was tackled down again by a girl this time. She ran over screaming his name and hugged him to the ground.

"And this would be my cousin from my dads side of the family, Anne-Marie." Xander said pointing to her still on the ground. "But she goes by Marie."

She rose from the ground and stood looking into my eyes. I noticed hers were green so she must be disguising them. I still never really understood how vampires could do that, but I guess it was just another power of theirs.

"That would be correct!" She answered still staring at me.

"Well I suppose you're cute." She said, walking around me now.

"Hmm I wonder what your bl–"

"Marie don't you even think about finishing that sentence!" Xander interrupted, glaring at her.

"Fine, fine. Well I have stuff to do and food to eat so see you guys later!" She said as she disappeared.

"What was she gonna say?" I asked, watching as she sped away to the food table inside.

"You don't want to know," Xander said chuckling.

"So how old is she?" I asked trying to change the mood.

"She is 416. So not as old as me but she is pretty strong, for a girl." Xander said

I could see he regretted his words, as she popped up behind him punched him in his ribs before disappearing again.

I saw Xander flinch, and rub were she punched him on his back.

"Are you ok?" I asked, laughing hysterically.

"It's not funny! When a vampire punches another vampire it hurts!" I still kept laughing until Xander picked me up and carried me around.

"Xander put me down!" I screamed several times before he actually decided to. We were acting way too childish to be attending a funeral. Thankfully no one was really around yet.

We walked back to the benches, and took a seat, just like everyone else had begun doing. I noticed a lot of red eyes staring at me as I inched closer to Xander. Andrew and Daniel took a seat on the other side of me. They appeared to be stuffing their faces with chocolates and they looked my way.

"Want one?" They offered, holding one out to me.

"Sure," I replied grabbing the small chocolate from their hands.

I was ready to plop it in my mouth before Xander quickly grabbed it and glared at the boys.

"Hey, give me my chocolate back!" I whisper yelled.

He continued to glare at Andrew and Daniel until they stopped chuckling. What did they do?

"So close!" I heard them whisper. What?

"They were trying to get you to eat a blood filled chocolate." Xander said now putting it in his mouth.

"Eww disgusting! How the hell do they even make those?!" I said now glaring at them too.

"Aww but it would have been so funny," They protested.

"No it would not have!" I said yelling back.

"Alright, alright don't get your veins in a bunch. It would make it harder for us to enjoy you." They said smirking.

I shivered as Xander shot a full on death glare and they seemed to turn away. His eyes had turned red again. I decided to leave it, and let him deal with it himself. Though I have no idea why he has been doing it so much lately. It always seems to be when I am around or something.

You know those boys remind me of the Weasley twins! Both conniving and trying to get into trouble.

I was pulled from my thoughts when a soft music began to play, and I leaned against Xander's shoulder. After a few minutes of silence and music a very short man made his way up to the podium. He began with a few words and then opened a small book. He said a few phrases, which I'm guessing is traditional for a funeral, but I wouldn't know since I've never been to one. My life is very plain, until Xander joined it, that is.

The short man finished speaking and left the podium. Others shuffled in their seats for papers and someone stood. It was Xander's father. He walked slowly to the podium, as everyone looked up with sad faces.

"Rose, you were my star. My flashlight in the darkness. You were my daffodil in a field of tulips. I know I would never be the same without you, but you have moved on to a place no man alive knows, nor no vampire. The day you vowed to become my wife was the happiest day of my life. When Xander was born was another."

I looked toward Xander who already had tear filled eyes. It was really hard seeing him cry. I couldn't imagine how he felt when I cried.

"You brought joy into my life, a son, purpose, and many more things I still cannot comprehend. But now you have gone to a land of eternal dreams. I hope you shall continue to bless those there with your kindness and grace. May you find peace there, eternal peace. Until the day I join you, goodbye my love." He finished with tears swelling in his eyes and slipping down his cheeks.

He stepped down from the podium, and I knew it was Xander's turn. He walked up and took hold of the microphone.

"Mother you were like the worlds greatest action figure," He trailed off as everyone laughed, but only slightly as if they were afraid to offend the sad silence engulfing everything.

"Everyone wanted you, wanted something from you, but you always meant the most in the eye of the beholder. You were so special in every way. You made my life special, without you it would have been dull, but every time you did something with me, a new color was added. You're like a flower, you spread love and life everywhere you go, but beautiful things like you only last so long. And now others no longer alive will be able to experience your radiant glow as well. Wherever you are we won't forget you because you live in the hearts of us all. Sweet dreams mom."

He walked down, and to his seat next to me. I wrapped my arms around him, and I hugged him tightly. A few hot tears fell from my eyes and Xander wiped them off even though I was the one who should be comforting him.

I didn't know what it was like to lose a parent but it feels awful experiencing someone else's pass away. Many others walked up and gave wonderful speeches. Xander's cousins went up as well as his aunts, uncles, and grandparent.

It was a little strange seeing everyone still so young, but hey, life is different in a world of vampires. Very different.

Everyone slowly stood up and walked over to touch the coffin on their way out. Xander and I were the last, and I watched as he took one last long look at his mother. She was beautiful beyond compare, even in death. No wonder she was loved by everyone.

"But it wasn't just her beauty, it was her heart as well." Xander said grabbing my hand.

I noticed he still had tears in his eyes and I hugged him again. This was going to be a very long day.

We slowly walked back through the house as everyone gathered out front ready to head to the cafe.

Xander walked into the garage and decided to drive his grey Porsche. Man that was a fancy car.

He held the passenger side door open for me as I stepped in. Even in his time of need he aided me. He was the best boyfriend ever.

"You better hope so sweetheart!" He said smiling a little.

He pulled out of the garage and headed along the driveway. Rolling down his window he asked if anybody needed a ride in which Andrew and Daniel eagerly hopped in the car.

"Thank goodness! Our mom drives like a turtle! Which is really odd for a 700 year old vampire." They said closing the door.

Noticing I was in the car they looked at me and smirked devilishly. I just turned around, and tried not to look at them, looking out the window instead.

Xander sighed, and pulled out of his driveway onto the road. It took us only 5 minutes to get to the cafe but that didn't stop Andrew and Daniel from pestering me the whole ride. The whole fucking ride.

"So, Ellie, what's your blood type?" They asked as I got out of the car.

"Um, (B) negative," I answered grudgingly.

"Oooh that's the best type! So sweet and delicious and–" Andrew couldn't finish before he got a large thwack to the head from Xander.

I couldn't help but laugh, as I got a glare from Andrew in which I stuck my tongue out at him. He came closer and whispered in my ear

"Don't do that or I will want to bite you more."
I saw him smirk, as I shivered and walked off glaring. I was eternally disgusted.

Soon we were seated in the cafe and we waited as everyone else arrived. We ordered tea, coffee, and lots of desserts.

Marie sat next to me and was scoffing down a piece of chocolate cake like it was her job. When I tried to take a piece she slapped my hand. Apparently the rest was saved for her and her only.

I asked the kitchen for a piece, but the said they were all out. I saw Xander already had a piece of cake and went to sit next to him.

"So Xander, can I please please please have your cake?" I asked making puppy dog eyes.

"Sure," he answered taking a fork and putting a piece in my mouth for me.

"Mmmm!" I murmured, still chewing on my cake.

After lots more desserts everyone began heading home leaving Xander and I alone with his father. He paid the large bill and we walked outside to Xander's car. Before getting in he looked up sadly at the sky. I held him close and kissed his cheek.

He returned the kiss as he picked me up and put me in the car. After he shut the door he returned to his side of the car and got in.

The engine spurred to life as Xander pulled out of the parking spot. I turned on the radio and Wildest Dreams by Taylor Swift was on. I began to sing and I pretended to hold a microphone to my mouth. Xander looked at me and just laughed. I couldn't help but laugh too.
