Chapter 18
Oh, btw, Silas isn't going to be in the God Blader's Cup.
Your POV
I sat in the dark stands motionlessly with BC Sol as Theodore Glass explained the rules of the God Blader's Cup and how the system works. It was going to be a round robin, then the top two of each group would move on to the semi-finals, and eventually the finals.
'And to announce the groups,' declared Theodore, flourishing his arms. 'In Group A we have Norman Tarver, Kurtz Baratier, Boa Alcazaba, Cuza Ackerman, (y/n) (l/n) and Red Eye. In Group B, we have Free De La Hoya, Lui Shirasagi, Valt Aoi, Xander Shakadera and Renwu Sun.'
My eyes scampered across the loud crowds until they met the ruby red ones. They both stared at each other for a moment, his burning with resentment as mine held hope, then the moment was lost. I exhaled. I hadn't realized I had been holding my breath. But I couldn't let myself be distracted by Red Eye. I had to focus on the more important task at hand, the God Blader's Cup. My eyebrows knitted together. I had to defeat a number of strong and mysterious bladers, a number from which had emerged from Snake Pit suspiciously.
'And now to reveal the math-ups in each group!' announced Hanami from his spot high in the stands, two microphones and cameras surrounding him. 'In Group A, we have Shu Kurenai aka Red Eye battling Boa Alcazaba! Two Snake Pit Bladers! Then we have Cuza Ackerman versus the mysterious Norman Tarver! And last, but certainly not least, we have (y/n) (l/n) facing the Emperor, Kurtz Baratier!'
I clenched my fists, gritting my teeth. His cruel eyes glared directly at mine, his minions praising him endlessly. So my first opponent was Kurtz Baratier, the former world champion. This wasn't going to be a walk in the park for me.
'And in Group B,' continued Hanami. 'We have the world champ, Free De La Hoya, battling Renwu Sun! Lui Shirasagi versus the glamourous Joshua Burns! And the giant Xander Shakadera battling Valt Aoi!'
'It's on, Xander!' yelled Valt triumphantly, standing up. I stifled a small smile before looking out onto the stands again. I nearly jumped in surprise. His harsh eyes was still fixed on me.
It seems like Kurtz won't settle on anything less than victory.

A gentle breeze floated through the night sky that glittered with starry dots. The moon seemed brighter than ever, looking down on the Earth. Hardly any lights were on in the middle of the night. The faint smell of hot food was still wafting around, making my stomach grumble. But that didn't matter.
I subconsciously took out my sole partner. It twinkled in the moonlight, as if it was trying to reach out to me. I exhaled slowly, laying back on the outdoor chair, staring at the night sky canvas.
'This tournament is dangerous,' I breathed down on Xcalius. It glinted brightly, as if it was agreeing with me. 'But that's why we need to win.'
A thundering roar echoed throughout the valley. Several lights flickered back on, but the owner of voice had already disappeared. But I had seen it. On the top of the rocky mountain overlooking this city, a certain albino had stood there, observing the buildings with utter resentment. His bey was taken out as well, and it had shone brightly. Their aura lit up, and flames erupted around them, swallowing them whole. Scarlet hues gleamed brightly, hunger swirling in them. A red-and-white winged monster arose, towering over everything. It's tail flickered angrily, as it flicked his golden mane fiercely. The white-and-gold amour seemed to glow, as if it was too clean and was waiting for blood to spread across. It lifted it's golden axe with a shimmering blue gem set in the middle, and let out a mighty outcry. Then everything disappeared in an instant, as if it was just disintegrated.
I looked back to Xcalius, pain evident in my (e/c) hues that was swimming with salty water. A teardrop trickled down slowly.
'We just have to.'
--------------------------------
'Welcome boys and girls!' Hanami's voice echoed throughout the arena, way above all of the screams, cheers and claps emitting from the stands. I took a deep breath and concentrated on the match before, instead of focusing on the crowds. 'Hope you had a good sleep last night! Because you're going to need all your energy today, especially with this thrilling match! I present to you, Kurtz Baratier and (y/n) (l/n)!'
The glass slid up, allowing me to step outside. I walked calmly to the stadium, letting the crowds slip away. The Emperor towered over me, clearly a move to intimidate me, but I stood my ground.
'That won't work,' I said calmly.
'You think you're so tough, don't you,' growled Kurtz. He flicked his hoop earring confidently.
'First match!' declared the referee. 'Ready? Set!'
'3 2 1! Let it rip!'
Both beys flew into the circular stadium, both spinning in opposite directions. But I couldn't win with just my bey's unusual rotation. I gritted my teeth in anger.
'Xcalius!' I commanded. Xcalius started to spin faster and faster, zooming into towards Khalzar. 'Upforce Launch!'
Clink.
The crowds went wild and I grinned triumphantly as the aqua bey landed outside the stadium. Kurtz turned his back to me, shielding any emotion. But my happiness was short-lived. I still needed another point.
'I'll beat you in the next match, just watch,' smirked Kurtz, casually flicking his earring again. 'And then your little boyfriend Red Eye is next.'
My eyes widened, and for a second, fear was injected inside my body as I inhaled sharply. I shook my head. I needed to concentrate more than ever now.
'Second match!' announced the referee. 'Ready? Set!'
'3 2 1! Let it rip!'
Just as we were about to launch, his feet snatched together, lifting up into the air as he yanked the string. Both beys spun in different directions again, but Khalzar seemed to have a huge power boost, sparks flying in all directions. It must've been because of what he did before, I realized.
'Feast your eyes on Skyscraper Boost!' shouted Kurtz, his eyes glinting wickedly. Before I knew it, his bey was had changed somehow, entering a different mode. I gulped. He wasn't finished just yet. Blue flames enveloped Kurtz, a shimmering aqua bird with golden armor appeared, spreading it's wings. It's owner smirked evilly. 'Now Khalzar, Thunder Attack! Destroy her bey!'
I froze in terror as Khalzar zoomed towards Xcalius, carving up the stadium as it came closer to my bey. Fear thundered in my veins, and I could only think about how scared I was. A small voice yelled at me to wake up and counter with Xclaius, but I could barely hear it above the terror coursing through my body. My eyes widened as my partner split into three separate pieces.
No way.
I-I lost?
'Boom Khalzar gets two points for a burst finish,' declared the referee, thrusting his hand towards the Emperor, who was sporting a brilliant smirk. 'Kurtz Baratier wins the match 2-1!'
I leant down and slowly picked up the pieces of Xcalius. Tears pricked my eyes, threatening to fall at any second. I was upset about my loss, but I knew this was my fault. I needed to snap out of the whole kerfuffle with Shu. My hand twitched when I realized the energy layer was missing. I cast my eyes around the floor until I saw it. About to be crushed by Kurtz's foot.
'Stop!' I shouted urgently, lunging to the feet of the Emperor. I snatched the disk away angrily before glaring into Kurtz's eyes that was wide with excitement. Psycho. 'What do you think that was for?'
'Next time, you won't be so lucky,' glowered Kurtz, ignoring my question. His multi-coloured aura lit up around him. 'I'll demolish you and your little boyfriend. I'll destroy everyone in this tournament.'
The tears began to stream down my face as he turned on his heel. I couldn't help but feel like a little girl all over again, when fear ruled me. I cowered into a fetus position, desperately hoping this was just all a nightmare.
