Chapter 4- Dark Window

"Based on what I read about Puritan churches, this does not seem like a typical one," remarked Sam. "Why would there be red walls and stained glass windows?"

At that moment, Megyn heard something that sounded like footsteps.

"Do you guys hear something?" asked Megyn.

"No, why?" asked Elizabeth.

"Hello?" she called out. "Looks like we got something weird. I want to go check it out."

"Whoa, you are not going alone. We'll be behind you," asserted Elizabeth.

"It sounded like those footsteps were near the door leading to the attic."

Sure enough, when Megyn reached the door, she could hear more footsteps going up. When she opened it up, she saw a narrow, spiral staircase that could give anyone claustrophobia. She went up anyway. Once Megyn reached the top, she looked around and saw the attic still had relics that were centuries old. Like downstairs, nothing seemed to have changed over the years, and everything seemed to glow red because of the walls.

A tall, rectangular window lay ahead, about as tall as a man. It overlooked the church's front yard. At that point, the steps stopped. A few seconds later, the window opened by itself. Then, Megyn heard a snapping sound similar to twigs breaking. It was near silent at first, but then the sounds started repeating, getting louder and louder. The tenth snap was about as loud as a firecracker going off next to you.

She screamed.

Sam inquired, "What happened?"

"That noise nearly burst my eardrums!"

"What noise?" the others asked simultaneously.

"...Are you serious?! None of you heard that?!" shouted Megyn.

"The only thing we heard was you screaming," said Kevin. "You nearly burst MY eardrums!"

"Can you describe what the noise was?" asked Elizabeth.

"It sounded like a branch breaking," answered Megyn. "Whatever it was, it's over now."

As the podcasters left the attic, they could not help but think that that room held something significant at one point.

Once they got downstairs, they decided to go outside and look at Kevin's photos of the interior. One image stood out like a sore thumb as they looked through Kevin's camera. The picture itself was a promo shot of Elizabeth, Sam, and Megyn posing in front of the attic window. Due to the light in the region, each of them, including the cameraman, gave off shadows.

There should not have been a fifth shadow.
