Chapter 7: Inner Demons

2,600 words and I'm a crying mess. Next update will be late, I'm off to get my next tattoo.

"Sanji!" Nami scampered up to the cook with glossy eyes as soon as Sanji had stepped out of the boys dorm with his shirt draped over his shoulders. Nami's unusual panicking began soon put Sanji into a sense of dismay as well. "Please tell me you're alright?"

"Yes I am Nami-swan!" Sanji swooned over the redhead with hands snuggled tightly to his cheeks. For he soon snapped out of his dishonorable fit "wait," Sanji pulled his button up shirt on over his freshly bandaged chest. "What made you think I was hurt or troubled?"

Nami hummed, twisting her body as she pointed behind herself towards the bow of the Sunny. "The blood, you mean to tell me that isn't your blood?" The redhead looked relieved once Sanji shaked his head no in response. "But I heard you and (Y/n) got into another fight yesterday." Sanji quickly stepped around Nami getting a good look at the horrific blood infested scene with large eyes, gagging.

"Y-yes and no," the cook finally replied. "(Y/n) kicked me in the chest and it pulled my stitches. I bled a little bit, maybe ruined my shirt, but that's as bad as it got. Everything happened in the kitchen not out here," Sanji pointed directly where the dried up pool of blood sat remembering last night, this was where you were the last time he had seen you. "Where's (Y/n)?"

"Now that you mention it..." Nami hummed scratching her pointed chin. "I haven't seen (Y/n), Robin, Chopper, or Zoro since last night." Nami's eyes enlarged. "Do you think (Y/n) started a fight with one of them?!"

"I..." Sanji stopped as soon as he had started. He wanted to deny the most reasonable explanation but nothing else came to mind. "I don't doubt it one bit..."

"Nobody picked a fight," a cute voice had broken through the sea of panic of behind. The duo had spun around to find Chopper holding a shallow bowl of transparent red water, Chopper's rounded black eyes were drooping to a mid close but most of all bloodshot in the white's of his eye.

"Then what happened?" Sanji beat Nami to the punch.

Chopper gave off a look of earnest hatred that spoke a thousand words without the need to even speak. Which the actions put Sanji at a total loss for words. Was he to blame? "(Y/n) is in critical but stable condition, Robin and I had to stay up all night to take care of her," the doctor sat the bowl of what the blonde had to assume was blood, upon the deck, rubbing his tired eyes with the back of his hoof. "Gather everyone and I'll explain why," the little reindeer trotts away yawning loudly.

"I wonder what happened," Nami asked with true concern laced within her voice.

"As do I..."

It took a while, but Nami and Sanji had gathered up the crew, or at least what they could find of it. Robin, Chopper, and Zoro all stood aligned, and Luffy had just came out of the sickbay with his straw hat hung low upon his head to cover his eyes. He was the only person missing from the group besides yourself, clearly. But he way Luffy wore his straw hat, nothing good were to come from it.

"Hope you're all happy..." Luffy bellowed lifting his head and scaring most with his fierce look. Earning the attention of his fellow crew. "I've decided that (Y/n) has permission to leave the crew. Unlike someone else, who will be forced to leave," everyone gasped exchanging worried looks between one another. Luffy took long steps, one after another, bypassing most but stopping directly in front of Sanji, clenching his rubber fist tightly at his side. "I will not allow a traitor like you to be on my crew."

Am I hearing this right? Luffy just kicked me off the crew...

"I'm lost," Sanji admits as calmly as he possibly could. He could only wonder what had happened to you to make Luffy accuse Sanji of betraying his crew.

"You poisoned (Y/n), or at least someone did," Robin states with crossed arms. "I found her last night vomiting her insides out as most of you have seen..." Robin directed at the evidence still yet to be cleaned, her fierce eyes never left Sanji's blue. "There's poison in (Y/n)'s system, and the same poison can be found within the remains of a dish you had fed her last night." Sanji couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"You know me!" Sanji shouts. "I would never tamper with food. I wouldn't call myself a cook!"

"Then who else would or could've done it?" Chopper spits. "She had only conversed with me and you, and nobody else dares to go near her."

"Now I'll admit, I'm not fond of (Y/n), but I wouldn't go as far as to kill her," Robin admits still wearing the same glare as before.

"And I'll admit that me and (Y/n) have had a rough past," Zoro admits stepping forward. "But I don't give a damn if I'm missing half of my vision, I'll give my life if it meant saving any of you," now that, Sanji believed. Zoro would never stoop so low as to poison a fellow crewmate. He's proven on more than one occasion he doesn't care about losing body parts either.

"Damn it everyone..." Sanji frowned to the pain penetrating his chest. The evidence was all overwhelming, all signs pointed at him. "It wasn't me... I would never poison a lady, nor would I ever poison anyone through my own cooking enemy or not! Food is meant for eating not murder." Sanji repeated his earlier claim. No light was shed on this shadowy situation of everlasting darkness. Everyone just stared at the blonde with seething rage or immense despair. Betrayal in its most purest form.

"Knock it off Sanji," Nami's lip quivered as her eyes glossed over. "You were caught... Admit it before you make the situation worst."

Not once did Nami look at Sanji in the eye. "Nami..." Sanji's heart sank within his chest. When the one person he held above all else falls victim to the lies thrown out into the world in order to corrupt those most pure, you know you've lost. "It wasn't me..."

"I want you gone the next time we dock," Luffy informs his former crewmate. Even he could no longer look at Sanji.

"We all can take turns handling meals until we find a new cook," Robin sighs before heading into the sick bay with Chopper soon to follow. Everyone fanned out one by one, once the cook was alone, he dropped to his knees staring down at the deck with tears in his eyes. Truly stunned by his defeat.

"It wasn't me..."

-----

Days had passed by, there was an island in the far distance just barely notable by the naked eye. And with the new island, meant the disappearance of someone dearly beloved. Sanji felt completely helpless, unable to change his destined fate. All that Sanji did was lie upon the grassy deck of the Sunny, hands used as a pillow and staring up into the blue gradient sky. What else could he do? He was outcast, nobody to trust, he wasn't even allowed within the kitchen made specifically to his standards the night the Sunny was born. Sanji came to understand your position better than he ever could before, he was in your same exact position. Except, you were welcome, unlike him...

"(Y/n)!?" Sanji sat with a jump to his feet within the second you had came into his line of vision, staring at you with wild eyes. You were slumped over just slightly as if you couldn't hold up your own weight, Sanji supported you with a hand upon your shoulder. He didn't care if you wanted to kill him at the moment with every fiber of your well-being, you needed the support more than revenge. With the action, came to the realization that you were no longer wearing your sea prism handcuffs and one of your eyelids remained half closed and eyes bloodshot. Such a sickly glow to cake your flesh. Like when someones about to blow chunks, they'll be described as glowing green but you... You were a Martian, not to forget how the skin around your mouth and chin looks inflamed painful, as if melted off with flesh exposed to the elements and red with discomfort. Your physical shape was atrocious, but Sanji would never admit that to a woman's face, especially not you, or not now at least

"So, you're just gonna give up on life?" You asked Sanji with a weak scratchy voice. Not bothering to acknowledge his thoughtful actions.

"What?"

"I just woke up and Chopper doesn't have a clue that I'm out and about. So Robin filled me in..." You managed to slap Sanji across the face, this one was noticeably weaker than the first time this had happened. "I need you to come with me to the sick bay. I can't make it to back alone so you need to help me."

Your features softened, Sanji had no clue as to what had changed about you. You were still hostile that's for sure, but there was this faint connection of trust and understanding that Sanji hadn't seen from you before. "Anything," Sanji stepped up to your side, manually throwing one of your arms over his shoulders. One of his arms wrapped around your backside, supporting you by the hip. The cook had helped you return to the sickbay in one piece, sitting you down upon the bed. Robin sat within Chopper's doctor chair.

"What's going on?" Sanji asked after his little favor.

"Are you going to accept the fact you were kicked off this crew?" You spoke in response. Sanji was blown away hearing how concerned you had became.

"I don't have a choice..." Sanji sighed rubbing the back of his neck and staring down upon the floor. "Somebody pinned the blame on me that I've poisoned you... But I would never do such a thing."

"I know..." You spoke up, sharing a mutual gaze with Sanji. "I know for a fact that you never poisoned me and I have proof."

"Really!?" Sanji jumped at you with delight "(Y/n) I-"

"Smell this," you cut sanji off to avoid what seemed to be an expected hug. Robin stepped in between you both and held what looked to be a corked vial with transparent liquid directly at the blonde.

"What is it?" Sanji uncorked the vial following orders step by step.

"Poison," you spoke bluntly.

"Are you trying to poison me as payback!?" Sanji grits his teeth almost throwing the vial in response.

"No. It's safe to inhale, but dangerous to digest," you explained as simply as you possibly could. And it looked to be that Sanji understood completely.

The blonde eased up loosening his grip upon the delicate vial of death. "And how do you know that?" Sanji asked. Robin never took that thought into account and stared at you. You looked down within your lap immediately unable to bare the feeling of being the center of attention.

"I was built and trained to recognize and withstand poisons better than average humans. If you poisoned me through your cooking, I would've smelt it," Sanji found that comment to be outstanding, to be able to recognize poisons...

"Built?" Sanji murmured. "You were built to survive poison?" Your eyes shot open to Sanji's almost controversial question. You should've chosen your words better, cause now you've dug a hole you cannot get out of. "(Y/n) you can tell us anything, does this have to deal with why the Government is out to get you?" Sanji reached out slowly.

"Please ignore me..."

"(Y/n)..."

"You know..." You raised your voice. "I don't have to prove you're innocent of poisoning me," That was when Sanji finally brought the vile to his nostrils and inhaled, retching at the odor almost dropping the vial. Robin used her replicate arms to catch death.

"Trained or not, it smells really distinct. Like rotting food or alcohol," Sanji points out with all attention back onto you who still refused to look at anyone head on. "This gift of yours will save me from getting kicked off the crew... I'm... I'm... In the clear..." Sanji couldn't help but smile like an idiot ear to ear.

"Which leaves a bigger question," Robin spoke up. "Who poisoned (Y/n)?"

"Nobody on this crew... I hope," you finally lifted your head. "Look... I proved Sanji innocent. Zoro has told me personally that he doesn't care about the whole eye thing, Chopper only wants to help me heal, Luffy took the sea prism off of me in order to help me heal faster with my devil fruit, even though I'd go on a murder spree after this murder attempt," Robin and Sanji nodded in unison after each comment you made. "And Robin, you saved me from death. If you never would've found me last night, I'd more than likely be dead right now."

"We've had problems in the past, but I can't sit there and watch my crew writhe in pain and suffer," you took Robin's words to heart. The first thing you've taken to heart in... Since the whole accident two years back. The thought had brought you to tears.

"(Y/n)?" Sanji knelt down and took your hand within his.

"I was made into a monster, I live my life on the run with this corrupted mind of mine and leave destruction wherever I go. Everyone is out to get me so I know better than to create relationships... I've done such horrible things to you all, yet you all welcome me in with open arms," you sniffled flashing a large smile that went ear to ear. "I don't deserve this... Why do you all care so much about me?" You openly cried, Sanji and Robin took in this sight the longest they could bare before Sanji took it upon himself and wrapped his arms around you. You gasped and eyes shot open, and you shook in response to this act of comfort.

"I don't think you understand (Y/n)," Sanji began to speak with his soft voice that seemed to comfort you. "Every one of us here are outcasts, at one point or another, we've done horrible unspeakable things that we don't wish to relive. We took you in by force yes, but now you're our problem. We'll go to the ends of the earth to save you. Deal with it," your hands hovered behind Sanji's back, Sanji's speech more than just spoke to you, it opened up feelings that you truly thought were dead within your broken heart. Your arms finally tightened around Sanji's body, and just let everything go.
