Chapter 22: A Man to Love

Chopper giggled, spinning around in his doctor's chair after examining just a little swatch of blood the little reindeer doctor had taken from your bloodstream. Actually, he had stolen a quart of blood from your body, Chopper only needed a little bit but you considered it a donation knowing how many scuffles this crew tends to find themselves in. "You're doing such a great job (Y/n)!" Chopper skipped on over to the patient's bed where you sat and nibbled on a cookie to get your strength up.

"Really?" You grumbled through a mouthful of cookie.

"Of course silly," Chopper grinned even more. "Your blood sugar is perfect, pressure is a little low but nothing to be worried about, and your white blood cell count is finally stable, stronger than ever! Not as high as before the surgery, but exceptional!" You understood every word Chopper meant. Law was a stickler when it came to your body. With the overdrive, came many health problems.

"If my white cells are high, that means I'm healthy right?" You grumbled through the mouthful of cookies again. If you're wondering, yes, your eating habits have returned. With the blood draw, Sanji gave you a plate of cookies for afterward to make sure you don't pass out. You still had quite a few cookies left and offered one to Chopper who squealed in excitement and ate the cookie in one bite.

"Yes!" Chopper answered your question with a satisfied hum. "That means you've finally recovered from the surgery (Y/n), the workout Zoro put you on helped work your immune system and built up your muscles quite a bit. You aren't as strong as you were before the Overdrive, I mean you won't be that strong ever again, but I think you can still beat Sanji in a fight!" Music to your ears, Chopper always knew the correct things to say. You rewarded the reindeer with another one of Sanji's delectable chocolate chip cookies.

"I really shouldn't get too ahead of myself, I won't dare to fight Sanji again until I'm confident-"

"You sure you don't want to beat me nearly to death again? I hope," Sanji joked around popping into the sickbay. "Anyways, heard your weekly check up went smoothly."

"I've finally recovered," you hummed.

"Wow," Sanji was most definitely surprised to hear. "Law made it sound like your recovery would take months maybe even years to bounce back from... It's only been what, three weeks?"

"Well yes," you agreed before scooping up Chopper within your arms. "But I have the best boyfriend and animal doctor in all the world here to take care of me!"

"Y-You're finally calling me your boyfriend?" Sanji adored the new nickname, there wasn't a day he dreamt that you'd call him by that name. Now the dream was a reality, it made his smoke loving heart sing to the heavens.

"You mean I haven't?" You asked with some confusion on your end. "Even before the surgery I kind of always thought of you as one, guess I haven't actually used the name until now."

"If you thought of me that way then, then why did you reject me the day you left with Law?" Sanji crossed his arms and leaned on up against the wall. Today must've been a game of 20 questions you thought briefly. At least Sanji doesn't sound offended or furious. Just curious. "You know what, let's get off the subject and forget about it," Sanji was quick to change, kicking up from the wall. "We docked on a new island maybe a half an hour ago, Nami went ahead and learned the log pose takes about a week to reset. I mean that's a long time, but I'd love to take you out on a few dates as soon as you're comfortable," Sanji wasn't wrong, to spring the news that he wants to get the relationship sailing as soon as humanly possible. Of course, you're a bit uncomfortable, but it's the least you can do for leaving the crew and cutting ties with him for almost two months.

"Technically, this'll be our second date if the day Smoker attacked me counts," you snickered again. "What's your plans?" Immediately, Sanji went stone cold. "You don't have one do you?"

"Not at all..."

"Come back when you got one okay? I'm fine with waiting."

"Thank you (Y/n)," Sanji pressed a hand to the door, preparing to leave.

"No problem," you smiled and Sanji left.

"You two are so cute," Chopped hummed, getting to his feet from your lap. "I'm sure you both will get married and have children and-" Chopper paused, laying a hand upon your knee. "You're crying (Y/n), what's wrong? Did Sanji say something?"

"He did nothing Chopper," you sniffled, wiping the tears from your eyes into your arm. "It's just..." You sigh. "He reminds me so much of my late brother. It's kind of painful-"

"How so? I-If you don't mind talking about him," Chopper corrected himself with flailing hands.

"Sure," you sniffled again, trying to keep your composure. "My brother died in action... He was a Marine, his services inspired me to become an agent in one of the cipher poll units. You already knew part of that, but (B/n) was more than just any old brother... He was my entire world," you fought with yourself, it was hard keeping your tears at bay. You knew it was okay to cry, but it only made you fight the urge some more.

"As kids, my dad was always gone since he was a marine as well. My mom always gone as well, she worked herself nearly to death each and every day just to get enough money to feed a family of three. I would always cry because our parents never really paid attention to us... So my brother took on the role as a parent and raised me alone."

"That sounds rough, really rough," Chopper hugged your arm.

"Not exactly Chopper," you snickered. "(B/n) would always make sure I ate before him and played with me, he always put me before himself. Just like Sanji," now you allowed the tears to fall, they were tears of happiness. "Since the beginning, Sanji always looked after me, kept his distance from me as well since he knew I hate smoke," you laughed to that little comment. "Sanji worked so hard to get me to open up to not only him but the crew as well. He protects me too. That fight with Kid made me realize that Sanji puts me and my happiness ahead of his own self... Sanji and (B/n) are so similar, they are great men, and I love them both."

"Awe, now I really hope you and Sanji get married someday!" Chopper couldn't help but hug you.

"Glad to be here (Y/n)," Sanji grinned, taking his ear off the door and set off for the island to somehow someway get a date idea in mind.
