Chapter 29: Morning With The Undead
Not entirely sure it wasn't all a dream, you followed Dimitri back to the common room. Were you really going to spend the weekend away from Arcadia Castle? And that brought up another question...
"We're not leaving now, are we?"
The boy studied your expression.
"It's rather late, beyond midnight and well past curfew." Dimitri said. "But there are vacant rooms in the dormitory."
"You can't be serious." You replied.
"I am." He said airily. "Given the circumstances, it'd be irresponsible to let you leave my sight with our very existence on the line."
"I don't know..."
"But after this weekend it will be your choice, y/n." Dimitri said solemnly as the clock struck once; 1:00am.
"You can't be serious." A voice echoed your words. From the corridor emerged Roman, heat radiating from his centre but cold brewing in his eyes.
"I am quite serious." Dimitri replied quietly.
"Bel told me he wasn't going to alter her memories," Roman gestured sharply to you. "You think we can trust her to not tell anyone!?"
Dimitri silently held up a hand which seemed to piss Roman off even more. You compulsively took a step back.
"Y/n is here with us right now." Said Dimitri. "And even if we wanted to, Belmont confessed that he foresaw this happening."
"Maybe he should have done something to prevent it then instead of relying on me to solve all our problems."
"Trying to change fate is how we usually ensure it occurs." Belmont said from the top of the stairs. He wore a blank look on his face, his skin incredibly pale.
"We can talk about this after everyone has some rest." Said Dimitri more firmly. "I think it's crucial that y/n goes with me to Delwood tomorrow."
"Lucian won't like that..." Said Belmont.
"I don't care what Lucian likes." Dimitri argued. "Either I am there or y/n stays here and one of you goes to bring Cadere back."
The three night students eyed eachother. You began to feel increasingly frustrated at how little anyone was considering you.
"What about me?" You asked. All three turned to you. "What about what I want or what I have to say?"
"You don't get a say." Roman growled. "Not in this."
"Everybody calm down." Dimitri raised his voice. "Now, y/n, I'm afraid Roman is correct. Not right, but correct. You will need to stay with us for a while until we know we can trust you and Cadere comes back."
"All of my things are in my room." You held dearly to your argument.
"We have anything you could need here and if not we could easily retrieve it for you." Said Dimitri.
"I don't know how safe I'll feel..." you said simply. "I don't know what would have happened if you didn't- with that night student-"
"She's already taken care of." Roman said grimly.
"Okay- you know what?" You said tiredly. "I'd rather not pretend I have a choice.'
"I'll show you to your room." Dimitri said.
As you thought of your room at home with your aunt, and your room with Simone, you couldn't help feel oddly uninvited. Everything was so twilight zone- especially at night.
But the room was beautiful, that could be said without question. Very old, from what you could tell, but a chandelier and ornate rug in the centre made up for the otherwise cold atmosphere that was gripping your insides.
Dimitri repeatedly assured you that you would be safe. One of the boys went to get your things, but by the time they got back, you were already asleep atop the covers. And when you woke up the next morning after a dangerously peaceful sleep, you were under them.
After slowly treading downstairs in the same clothes, you bumped into a wall. However, the amused hum proved that the wall was not a wall at all, and in fact, a person. A person who had been absent the entire night.
"And here I thought I'd be your first." Avery smirked, blocking your path. He frowned jokingly but at your reaction he studied your expression carefully. You were already backing away.
"Oh..." he said, rolling his blue eyes. "I see... you're afraid of me."
The boy seemed to take too much pleasure in these words, and closed the distance between you.
"I'm guessing that's why nobody told me anything and why you look like you've just seen a ghost." He sighed, holding your gaze. "Although ghosts aren't nearly as bad."
"You're not going to hurt me." You said hesitantly. Avery's grin widened as he shrugged in surrender.
"If you really think the others won't, then be my guest y/n."
And he let you walk past him downstairs. Where his words stuck with you and memories of last night flooded over the peaceful dreams you'd hoped would last past morning.
"Hello y/n." Lucian greeted. He was sitting at the table, as Belmont set a plate down and the others were nowhere to be found.
"Hey y/n, I'm sorry about last night." Said Bel. "Actually, I'm sorry about everything."
"I don't-"
"You don't have to say anything, I just made you some breakfast before you're off."
"Really, it's fine." You shook your head, looking at the scrambled eggs.
"Nonsense." Bel winked. "I promise they're not as bad as they look. Probably."
"You need to eat if you want to keep your strength up." Said Lucian.
"You should follow your own advice." Roman lazily sauntered into the dining room. Any essence of anger was gone, but that didn't mean he was more welcoming to you. Lucian on the other hand, narrowed his eyebrows.
"Don't tell me what to do, Roman." He said. His golden eyes were burning up.
"If you're going to throw a temper tantrum don't do it in front of the human." The redhead rolled his eyes.
You frowned at being called that. Although, he wasn't wrong.
"Anyway, eat while it's still hot." Bel chirped.
You stabbed the egg with your fork.
"It's not poisoned," Bel said. "Cross my heart."
That was enough for you and you did your best to enjoy his surprisingly good if not slightly burnt breakfast.
"Where's everybody else?" You asked. "I ran into Avery earlier."
"What did he do?" Lucian asked quickly.
"Nothing." You said. "It's just- now that I know he's... what he is... it's kind of different."
"Being afraid is the smart thing in this situation, y/n." Lucian told you. "As soon as we know you're not a threat to us, everything will go back to normal."
"Hopefully." Bel added.
"Are we all going to the town?" You asked them.
"It'd be easier if you stayed here and one of us went but we also don't want you telling anyone about our little secret." Said Roman, a fake smile lining his cheeks. "Besides- the others think you'll be miserable in this place all weekend."
"And everyone going is better than leaving you with... just one person." Lucian added.
"Do I smell bacon?" A voice asked from the doorway. There stood a boy with blue eyes, striking violet hair, and a white towel. Nothing else.
You turned away as soon as you caught yourself staring.
"It's okay, free to look." He said. "But touching will cost you."
"Knock it off Avery." Said Lucian firmly.
"Knock it off Avery." He said mimicking the silver haired boy.
"You're not missing anything, there isn't much to look at." Roman remarked.
"That's enough fooling around." Said Dimitri. The meticulous boy strolled into the room, watching you intently.
"How did you sleep y/n?" He asked.
"Really well." You answered. "Thank you." You added as an afterthought.
"Please," he said. "After everything settles, life will be back to normal."
"We should probably head out now then, Cadere is probably doing the rounds." Lucian said, standing up. "And you'll be able to ask us any more questions."
You stood up as well, one question rising to the surface above the rest.
"How will we get there?"
The boys amusedly looked at eachother. Avery looked mostly at you.
"Oh y/n," Belmont chuckled, crossing his arms. "You have no idea how reliable piggy back rides are, do you?"

Thank you for reading, it's 2:00am and I know it's filler-esque but needed to add the inbetweens as the plot progresses. Thanks infinitely for support and sticking around! Really good things to come. All the best,
