Working at the hospital means working during graveyard shifts. Aera was busy doing her rounds in the hospital, her face was as pallid as milk, heavily exhausted until her phone rang.
"Dr. Jung Aera, reveal yourself if not we will lay a finger on Kim Junho. Room 1528 Hellsing Headquarters." The monotone voice said, sounding like a robot with the buzzes in the call. Her hands were trembling upon hearing the news, she was in the verge of crying.
Fortunately, her shift was about to end, without hesitation, she took her blue BMW four wheel drive. Still wearing her scrubs, she was full of panic. She didn't find time to go home and dress up because Junho's life was at risk.
Recklessly going on her own, she had fears but she let them subside. Aera decided not to call anyone so they wouldn't have to be involved. It was something to be dealt solely by Junho and her. Finally reaching Room 1528, she saw Junho whose color faded and lips impaled, all tied up by Kang Woozi and Zhou Yuri.
"I never knew I would see you here, Aera." Woozi smirks menacingly.
"Such an emergency for you to come here wearing your scrubs, Doctor!" Zhou Yuri continues chuckling, her signature witch-like laugh overpowering.
The adrenaline flooded Aera's system, her heart felt like it wanted to explode, her eyes open wide. "Let him go. Just deal with me, not him." Her voice trembled as tears started building up from the corner of her eyes while she glances at Junho's weak state.
Zhou Yuri sarcastically replied, crossing her arms. "Well you see... I really don't want to hurt him because I love him! He's my Junho? Oh but he's a traitor to Hellsing. I don't like traitors."
"You're a snake!" Aera shouted at her.
"Oh thanks for the compliment dear. It was fun taking your friend's boyfriend and now I plan on taking your man's life away! Teehee." Like a lunatic giggling, she replied as she ordered Woozi to tie Aera up.
Woozi advances to Aera but she pushes him away with all force. Raising her fist in the air as she hooked at Woozi's face. Blood on her knuckles didn't stop her, she continued giving sloppy punches to Woozi. The thirst for a vendetta hummed in her veins as determination and anger took over. Aera pulled Woozi down flat on the floor. With the boiling hostility in her, she swung her tight fist, too quick and potent on Woozi's face until he gets a bit groggy.
"Quit it, Aera! If you move one more time, I'm going to kill Junho." Zhou Yuri approaches her, holding a syringe in her hands, placing it near the crook of Junho's neck.
Losing her grip on the attacker, she falls down on the floor, emotional pain flowed out of her every being. Taking advantage of Aera's vulnerability, Woozi took a metal bat, hitting her powerfully on her unprotected head until she dropped down fully unconscious. He tied her up, placing her next to the knocked-out Junho.
Moments later, Yuri and Woozi left the room, leaving the unconscious Aera and Junho behind.
Gaining consciousness, Junho gapes at the lady next to him who was severely injured with a cut near her head. "Aera... Wake up. Please." Shaking violently and wriggling the rope that was entangled on his legs, he cried out loud, thicker flow of tears streaming down his cheeks.
After a few seconds, Aera finally responds. "Junho... I'm sorry. This is my fault. You're here because of me." Many tears burst forth like turbulent waves in the ocean, spilling down her face.
"But tell me...why did they do this to you? Aren't you apart of Hellsing?" She gazed into his eyes, noticing how the two of them were crying their hearts out.
"I am but I freed the human test subjects a few days ago." Junho gave a heavy smile.
"I'm sorry...I couldn't help you. I'm so useless. It's really my fault." Her whimpered wails filled the room.
"No baby, hush." His hands struggled to make its way to her pale cheeks, cupping them softly despite having ropes tied around his wrist as a hindrance.
"It's my fault. We should have done this together. I should have listened to you. I was stubborn. I'm sorry." He added, crying in the middle of his words, his hand still caressing her face.
Completely destroying the atmosphere, Yuri and Woozi come in with syringes in their hands. "Well... well... Such romanticism happening in here!" Yuri looked at the couple who were trying to make amends.
"Let's play a game so it would be fun! Junho, you take this syringe. Face Aera and kill her. If you don't, Woozi will kill you." Yuri went behind Junho, moving his body to tilt him facing Aera.
Woozi positioned himself behind Junho, his muscles tensed up in the air as he holds the syringe.
It was the end, Aera thought.
Junho lifted his hand in the air, restraining himself briskly. The two were face to face, their eyes interlocked, communicating trust.
"Hurry... I'm waiting." Yuri looked at her clock, staying away from the two of the fighting scene so that she won't get hurt.
"Tick... tock... tick... tock." Irritably mimicking the sounds of the clock, Yuri teased them.
Aera lowered her head down, ready for the end of the line.
At the breaking point of Junho's patience, he expeditiously punctures Woozi's foot that was beside him.
"Agh!" Woozi yelled in pain.
As the chemical infused into Woozi's system, he involuntarily stabs Junho on the neck, slowly pressing the syringe down to fully intoxicate him with the Aspivarix. Junho fell hard on the floor, hitting his head with an extreme force along with Woozi who practically died upon its injection.
The whole world shut down like how a heart monitor turns into a flat line. With delirium eating her up, Aera could imagine hearing the tone of the long flat piercing beep sounds penetrating her ears as she sees Junho's cold, stiff and clammy body descending flat on the floor. The tie in her hands were slightly loose, she wriggled it, breaking it off. She crawled her way to Junho whose eyes were close but suddenly he wakes up, gurgling blood out of his throat.
Brick by brick, the walls that held her up collapsed. Her heart shattered into billions of pieces. She sobbed into his chest unceasingly, hands were clutched on his polo smeared with blood.
Unblinking. Unthinking. Unmoving. Junho embraced death.
"Junho, don't leave me. No, you can't do this to me!" She shook his shoulders repeatedly to see if he would respond. She breathed heavier than before, her throat burning as she screamed.
A glint of wisdom beckoned to her as she wanted to give Junho a second chance in life and that is only if she turns him into a vampire. Pulling him nearer to gain access to the crook of his neck, she pressed her lips on his neck, dotting him with a soft kiss before she bites him on his neck.
Her fangs dig deep once again on his flesh, biting him on all corners of his neck until she gets a response from him. Slowly, a stimuli was sent to activate signals in his body, contracting his heart to start pumping again.
Aera gave a faint smile, relieved upon seeing how colors started igniting in his body and how his muscles started moving. "It's working."
"No you can't do that to him!" Aghast, a wild Yuri appears, lunging the syringe towards Aera before finally injecting the drug from behind.
Growling as Junho finally regains consciousness, Yuri ran away due to fear. He notices two bodies on the floor: a man and woman. His golden eyes set on the lady who laid flat on the floor. His heart was enthralled and warmed upon seeing her, he slowly reverted to his human state. Panting hard, he shakes his fingers to see if he's really alive.
Looking around, he sees Aera senseless on the floor. "A... A...Aera?" He immediately coiled his arms around her, hugging her tightly.
"You saved me. B...but why are you like this? Baby, please be strong." He takes her hands, holding them firmly as his husky voice groaned.
Her face started losing its color, her skin that was already pale from the beginning turned snow white.
"Damn it! Where are all the medical equipment when I need to save you at this state?" He spewed profanities, sobbing as he takes short pauses to recover his breath.
"No, Junho. As long as you're okay, I'm okay. Copy?" She chuckled, her voice becoming weaker.
"No. Not copied. Don't leave me.." He was frantic, carefully looking around to see if there are any equipment to save her.
"Junho, I love you. Copy that?" Her hands roamed on his face, rubbing his cheeks weakly.
He held the hand that was cupping his face. "Copied. I love you more."
Small beads of crystal tears rolled down her cheek, glistening in the light before she bids farewell to him.
Flashbacks kept coming in as Junho gave howls of misery.
"As they walk towards the shore, the shining moonlight glistened at the water while the waves continued crashing at the soft and moist sand. Sitting next to eachother, they looked up at the mysterious and majestic night sky. Beaming stars were dancing up above like diamonds twinkling as they pointed at them. Both felt the cold rush of the water as their toes started curling up.
Wow." Aera mumbled sweetly as she gazed at the stars, felicity sparkling in her eyes.
Junho was mesmerized by her eyes. He couldn't resist gaping deeply into her chocolate brown eyes. At that moment he was confused on what was beautiful. Was it the view from above or the view infront of him? Junho looked back at the majestic night sky, dismissing all his thoughts."
Junho cried even more knowing that her smile and eyes, that once illuminated his soul, has faded away like footprints in the sand.
