《12 - Brazen Bull》
"Press has been all over this now," Angelo sighed as we entered the alley.
"First a serial vigilante, now a possible terrorist with bomb cars? Manson's gonna lose his shit," Chris said as Dr. Malarkey walked up to them.
"Then let's hope he doesn't become a cannibal next," Angelo said.
"Evening gentlemen," Dr. Malarkey greeted. "Lovely morning for burnt remains, huh?"
"You're awfully cheery about death you know that?" Chris smiled cheekily, sarcasm fluent in his voice, earning a chuckle from her.
"Its depressing, but being a coroner you never know what to find. Come, there's someone I want you to meet," she smiled, motioning us forward.
A tallish man with a beanie on his head and suits like the forensic team walked over.
"Agents, this is Dr. Joshua Balz, a forensic anthropologist we called to help out with our Roadkill case," Dr. Malarkey greeted.
Angelo stiffled a laugh, and Chris elbowed him, but suppressed his snicker.
"Hehe, its okay to laugh, I get used to it. Nice to meet you guys," he laughed.
"Dr. Balz, these are Special Agents Chris Cerulli and Angelo Parente," Dr. Malarkey said, smiling.
"Pleasure to mee you," Angelo nodded. "So, any other fatalities, aside of the remains?"
"None. Not even injured. Though a few broken windows and burnt trash," Dr. Balz said.
"Then where are the remains?" Angelo asked.
"Over here. Hope you guys skipped breakfast," Dr. Balz said, and we followed him behind the burnt truck where an open trunk laid open.
"WHOA!" Chris exclaimed as they looked in the box, seeing the disfigured and crisped remains in the box. "Okay, that is not.... Whoa!"
"Good god, what's wrong with this guy?!" Angelo said, obviously talking about Roadkill.
"Yeah, he made his own Brazen Bull out of the victim's car... Cooked him alive," Dr. Malarkey said.
"Her, actually. Victim is female, early to mid 20's," Dr. Balz said.
"Not that I've seen worse, but where are her arms and legs?" Angelo asked.
"Front seat of the car," Dr. Malarkey asked.
Angelo and Chris cringed as they saw one of the forensic people taking an arm out and putting it in an evidence bag.
"Looks like she was screaming," Angelo said, noticing the victim's burnt face.
"Any signs of explosives?" Chris asked.
"None found yet. We're thinking the fire was just started by gasoline, but we can't be sure until we get her to the lab," Dr. Malarkey said.
"You know... Roadkill said in that riddle of his.... That he wasn't gonna use a blade.... but a blaze..." Chris said.
Everyone looked at each other before turning towards the burnt truck.
"Maybe this was what he meant," Chris said. "He's stepping up his game."
"If I were you, Chris, I'd get this guy as soon as you get a gut feeling," Dr. Malarkey said.
Chris frowned as he looked at the remains of the car.
"Has Agent Pitts finished looking through the Watkins file like I asked?" Chris asked.
"Should be done with it now," Angelo said.
"Alright. Geeks, you do your thing, we'll do ours," Chris said. "Anything comes up, you know where to find us."
Ryan Ashley nodded. "You heard the man. Let's get to work!"
Chris and Angelo started to leave when Angelo stopped him.
"Hey, you know... Totally off topic, but.... You never told me what you and Demon talked about," Angelo spoke.
Chris sighed. "Just catching up. You know what we went through wasn't easy."
Angelo nodded, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I know... I'm still here, Chris, no matter what."
Chris smiled and nodded. "I know."
Angelo smiled and they both left the crime scene.
