Chapter 11- All rise

A week later and the conversation of what Vincent was asking her to do weighed heavily on her mind.

Today was the date of the court date and it was very likely according to her lawyer that she may be up on the stand today.

She sighs looking in the mirror. "Could I lie on the stand?.. That would of course be purjury and that would end up in a Prison sentence."

She groans and sits on the bed feeling like she had a massive headache over this whole situation. "I'm going to Prison anyway either way.."

She grabs her laptop from under her bed and typed into google:.

"Perjury Prison Sentence UK"

The answers on one particular site shocked her:

Section 1(1) of the Perjury Act 1911 states '...[who] wilfully makes a statement material to that proceeding which he knows to be false or does not believe to be true shall be guilty of perjury...and shall on conviction thereof on indictment be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years, or to a fine or to both...'

Seven years is therefore the maximum sentence - which is reserved for the most serious cases and after a full trial at that - and, in the Crown Court, fines are unlimited.

The likely sentence will depend on all sorts of things particular to your individual case: the extent of the fabrication and the reasons behind it, its effects on the proceedings, the inability to 'put right the wrong' and so on; and so it is impossible to answer your question fully.

She got up and decided to get dressed.

She looked into her wardrobe and decided on a Blue Suit.

She quickly put it on and used her phone to call for a taxi.

She grabbed her handbag and placed things in it. She then decided to grab her suitcase from the top of the wardrobe and packed every single clothes that she owned including grabbing her teeth brush and other necessary things that she may need.

She fastened her suitcase and dragged it down the stairs. She heard the taxi beeping outside and she opened the front door and exited the house with her handbag and suitcase and locked the door.

The Taxi driver helped her put her suitcase in the cab and then he got into the driving seat. "Where to Misses?."

She smiled. "Hull Courthouse please."

He nodded and pulled away from Scarlett's house.

Scarlett stared out the window looking at her house possibly for the last time.

She stared out that window for the entire journey and sat there in silence for her entire journey with Vincent weigh heavily on her mind.
