Unstable Stairs

❤️💜32K MY CHILDREN💜❤️

---Nightmare's POV----

"I think we should split up..." Error said, glancing warily at me. "We'll be able to cover more ground that way...minimum of two people per group, okay?"

Everyone nodded and I winced as they all immediately stepped away from me, shooting nervous looks in my direction as they grabbed onto their respective partners and kids.

Dust, Blue and Sprinkle were one group. Horror, Lust and Desire were another. Geno, Reaper, Goth, Raven and Pallet were the third group. Ink, Error, Pj, Fresh, their killer dog and Gradient were the forth. And Killer went with the mystery guy.

"Don't worry Nighty..." Cross muttered. "We'll stay with you..."

Our kids nodded and I smiled weakly, internally hitting myself. Why did I ever agree to coming here? I'd give anything to be back at the mansion right now, with Cross curled up by my side on the sofa, purring softly as we watched some horror film with the kids. Funnily enough then kids don't really find horror movies scary. They've seen all sorts of stuff like Annabel, The Nun, IT, The Conjuring etc. The only horror film they haven't seen that I can think of is The Human Centipede. And that's because Cross has several panic attacks watching it.

I can remember that Moonlight and Noah had hidden in my chest, and Cross was in my arms, shaking. We had to turn it off after half an hour.

Call us irresponsible parents, but the kids had begged us to let them watch it, and after a long time of debating, we gave in and let them.

And then I had to keep back Night terrors from my whole family instead of just Cross.

Oh happy memories.

I flinched as my foot bumped into something hard and loose. I looked down slowly, blinking as I saw an old clipboard.

"What is it?" Cross asked, leaning against me as he looked down.

Not answering him, I leaned down and picked it up, wincing as I saw what it was.

SERENITY FILE : CLASSIFED

Test: 12
Subject: BR-02
Test: LD - Liquid Negativity

Results: We injected the Liquid Determination into subject BR-02's soul. He put up a struggle (obviously) but his stress didn't seem to affect how his soul took in the LD. Our plan is to leave him restrained to our experiment table for about three days to see the results. We've spent millions on this project, and we can't have it failing now. So if there's no results in three days we'll inject him with more. I know it could be lethal, but we've come too far to fail now. We must succeed.

The next paragraph was so messy and rushed that I could barely read it.

Something's gone wrong. This wasn't supposed to happen. We'd done everything perfectly, yet here I am, watching as BR-02 rips his way through of the restraints, killing my colleagues. He's a monster. We've created a monster, an uncontrollable weapon. Shit he's seen me.

I narrowed my eyes, dropping the file to the ground carelessly. "An uncontrollable weapon? Oh they've got that much right."

Cross sighed softly hugging my arm. "I know this place is stressing you out...but please just try to stay calm...the others are already being dicks by assuming this place will drive you crazy and make you attack us. Prove them wrong, okay?"

I winced, looking up at the hopeful and worried expression on his face. "I-I'll try..."

Cross smiled, pushing himself up onto his toes so that he could kiss my cheek, huffing at how short he was.

I snickered and pulled him into a proper kiss, making him squeak in surprise as his face flushed purple.

The kids were still watching us so I didn't take the kiss too far, knowing that it always embarrassed Cross when I did stuff like that in front of the kids.

Once I pulled back from the kiss Cross buried his face in my chest, a burning, flustered mess.

"Fifteen years together and you still get flustered over a kiss~"

Cross huffed, his face flushing darker. "That's your fault, not mine."

"Mmhm sure it is." I said with a snicker as we started to walk on, heading for a room where the lights were flashing so frequently that it made my head start to hurt.

Cross whined, blinking rapidly as the flashing light disoriented him. "Oh god my visions going blurry."

I hissed, quickly getting pissed of the flashing light as I lashed my tentacle up at it, making it practically explode and fall off the ceiling to the floor with an almighty crash that took away about a few good minutes from our lives.

"Knock knock." Incubux joked dryly. "If anyone's in here and somehow hadn't realised the power had turned on, and hadn't heard your yelling, then they'll definitely know we're here now."

"It's rude to enter someone's home without letting them know you're here." Cross said with a snicker, making me smile. If he was joking then he's clearly a bit more relaxed, which means he's completely fine with me at the moment. Unlike Error and the others.

I smiled, looking down at him fondly. "How's the baby?"

He blushed, leaning against me. "It's doing fine, thanks."

"Good."

We looked around the room -that was now only lit with one un-flashing light- slowly, narrowing our eyes. We seemed to be in some office room. It was filled with toppled over lockers and broken desks, and there was more paper than floor.

I kicked through some of the sheets on the floor, just seeing a bunch of numbers and scientific words that I'd probably pronounce wrong.

Cross wandered over to the other side of the room, looking at a desk with an old rucksack on. "There are still books and stuff left in this..."

I nodded before freezing as a cracking sound rang out through the room. Looking up, I immediately panicked upon seeing a wide split form in the ceiling. "Cross!"

Cross looked up and froze, his eyes widening as a chunk of the ceiling above him cracked fully, collapsing.

My tentacles instantly lunged forwards,  wrapping around him before yanking him harshly back, cutting off his cry of fear with a yelp of pain.

The ceiling smashed to the ground, sending up a thick layer of dust and dust, making us all have a coughing fit.

Cross whimpered loudly, clinging to me tightly as I held him to my chest. "Th-This place really i-is unstable..."

"How'd you figure that one out?" NiXss asked sarcastically, trying to sound braver than he actually was feeling.

I gently pushed everyone out of that room, leading us to a flight of extremely shady looking stairs. "Oh these look stable."

"I don't think so..." Incubux muttered, deciding to ignore my obvious sarcasm.

"I'll test them!" Noah said suddenly, running forwards and up the stairs.

Instantly we had about seven heart attacks each, panicking massively. "N-Noah come back! You don't know if those are safe! O-Or what's up there!"

"It's okay!" He said, giggling as he leaned over the banister on the stairway that looked like it could crumble at the slightest touch. A few more heart attacks were administered at that, both Cross and I panicking massively as we watched him helplessly. My tentacles were just a bit to short to reach him from where we were, so the only way we were gonna get to him would be if we went up the deadly staircase.

"Look!" Noah said, jumping up and down a bit on the stair case.

We both nearly fainted.

"J-Just-- Just go to the t-top--"

"Okay!" He bounded up the rest of the stairs before stopping, letting out a gasp. "Look at all this!"

"Noah stay where we can see you!" Cross yelled desperately.

Too late. Noah let out a giggle, running out of sight.

"I swear to god these kids are gonna be the death of me--"

"I could go look for him!" Moonlight suggested, placing his foot on the first step.

"nO--"

Moonlight paused, whining. "But they're clearly safe!"

"They might not be!"

"Uh...why don't you just teleport...?"

We both froze, slowly turning to see NiXss smirking, looking at us like we were the stupidest people in the world.

"I'll pretend you didn't say that." I muttered before flicking him in the skull.

Cross teleported Moonlight and NiXss while I did the same with Incubux, mentally slapping myself for not thinking about that.

We all quickly looked around, internally dying as we saw the maze of rooms we could go into. There were around five different options.

"We could split up?" Moonlight suggested, earning an instant protest from Cross.

"No! We're not splitting up." He said quickly, pulling Moonlight closer to himself.

A sudden giggle from behind us caused us all to whip around faster than that fucking blue hedgehog thing.

We turned just in time to see Noah run into another room, giggling happily. "Noah come back!"

We all rushed after him, scrambling across the landing and into the room, not really worrying about what could be in it.

As soon as I was through that doorway I froze. The others weren't affected and grabbed Noah, hugging him tightly, but I was frozen.

The room was completely trashed, glass, desks and tables smashed all across the floor. But that's not what made me freeze.

Stood in the centre of the room was an experiment table. The experiment table.

I walked over to it slowly, the glass crunching under my shoes. I barely noticed Cross rushing to my side, looking up at me concernedly as tugged my arm weakly.

"Nighty?"

I ignored him, crouching down as I picked up the remains of a cracked and broken injector. I winced. There was still some of the black liquid in there. The very liquid that corrupted me.

I hissed, crushing it suddenly in my hand. The glass cut into my hand slightly, but I didn't care.

Cross shook me and I jolted, glancing down at him. "N-Nighty are y-you okay?"

I sighed, hugging him tightly without warning as I dropped the now shattered injector. "Yeah...I'm fine..."
