LVII
FIFTY SEVEN: KIDS KNOW TOO
SOUJIN POV
"Yeonjun hyung!" A small voice called again, and Yeonjun's eyes brightened as he looked over at the two boys coming towards him.
"Heeseung and Sunghoon? What are you boys doing here? Remember to shush or else the bad guys will come," Yeonjun smiled.
"These are?" Soujin asked and Yeonjun smiled.
"They're kids that I secretly took care of for the past few years. They're under my father, and so I always make sure they're fine although they aren't," Yeonjun replied.
"If you knew they aren't okay, then why didn't you make a case or investigate this over the past few years?" I asked, it was indeed a bit questionable though. Yeonjun is a senior attorney, and him knowing these kinds of illegal acts should be notified immediately.
"Yuuri noona knows, but she told me it would be better to get more evidence against my father to win the trial. I know you don't know my father, Soujin. Father is very mindful of the dirt he's scattering, and manages to clean up everything, that's what I learned from him," Yeonjun replied as he patted the kid's head.
"Now that you mention it, Yeonjun, how did you and your father cut all ties? Is it because of some other things? Maybe because you're against this?" Jungkook asked.
"Well, my father was mindful of me not being involved in his business. And I minded my own too. But when I told him I didn't wanna be a mafia like him, he disowned me and sent me on my own to continue my education," Yeonjun said.
"I don't regret it though. The more I become an attorney, the more I can save these kids under him," Yeonjun said.
"Yeonjun hyung! Did you bring candy? Gummies?" Heeseung asked, and Yeonjun smiled as he gave him a packet from his paper bag.
"Here, share it with the others, alright? Now... where's Mr. Big Brother?" Yeonjun asked, and Sunghoon frowned.
"My body hurts when I'm with him. But he's inside the mansion. The other boys are working in the backyard. You should meet them, they miss you!" Sunghoon said, and Yeonjun nodded.
"Alright, let's move to the backyard, I have to meet and ask some kids. Also, Soujin... try to help me keep an eye on anything suspicious," Yeonjun said and I nodded.
As we walked inside the towards the backyard, our eyes widened at how massive and decorative it was. It was a green pasture with a fountain and different ornaments and bushes scattered.
"Is that... Yeonjun hyung?" One of the boys smiled as they ran towards him, engulfing his long legs in a hug.
"Ni-ki! How are you? You grew taller than the last time I met you!" Yeonjun smiled and Ni-ki nodded.
"I missed you hyung! Me and the others were getting very sick lately... I don't know why. I... I felt like my body isn't mine," Ni-ki said and Yeonjun tilted his head.
"What do you mean, Ni-ki? Your body? Did he give you something unusual lately?" Yeonjun asked.
"It was nothing. But he always gave us sweets lately. We were very hungry too, and he starved us until he gave us food or invited him to his room," Ni-ki said softly, and Yeonjun's eyes furrowed.
"It's been almost ten years since my father hasn't seen me. But I'm still his son. I'm sorry, Ni-ki. I'm also sorry to the others," Yeonjun said softly as he patted his shoulder.
"I'm gonna save you all and get all the evidence I need for my father. Here are your sweets, share with them all okay?" Yeonjun said, and Ni-ki nodded.
-
"Yeonjun? My son? Ah... my son...," Big Brother chuckled as he sat down on his chair, an e-cig on his hand as he blew a smoke.
"Hyung, are you sure you're gonna be fine? Master is pretty on edge today. Do you not need us to help you sneak out?" Sunoo asked, and Yeonjun sighed.
"It's the only way, Sunoo. In fact, I feel like a coward for not doing this. At first, I thought I would be able to get evidence without my father in the way," Yeonjun smiled.
"Sometimes, even attorneys don't have the heart to do overcome their fears, that anxiety... those unexpected events. I feared that a lot," Yeonjun said as he slowly opened the door.
"Yeonjun, you've grown... into a fine young man," Big Brother said and Yeonjun glared at him as he slowly walked to him, me and the others following behind.
"Father, or should I say... Junhyuck. You're still the same... I didn't know you're like this," Yeonjun said and Big Brother smiled.
"You're a cheeky little brat aren't you? Like when you were still thirteen. I hope that woman has been treating you well? Yuuri?" Big Brother said and Yeonjun sighed.
"Don't you say anything about her. Because of you, and this mess you're in... she's dead and gone," Yeonjun saif softly.
"That's a shame. I liked her that I let her be without shooting her down. She made you change, even quicker than the years that I raised you," Big Brother said and Yeonjun sighed.
"Now tell me, those kids... you're still not gonna give them up? Where are they from? Where do you even get those kids? And where do you take them? What happens to them when they're in SAN after 9 or years old?" Yeonjun asked.
"Kids? I suppose I can tell you, what about you give me a deal? If I tell you, you come back and give up being a lawyer, and then take over my business?" Big Brother said as he gave a sinister smile.
"What?! Do you think you can sell me off like that again? You took my from my family, and now you're gonna control what I am for your sake?" Yeonjun gritted his teeth.
"I don't think that should happen, Mr. Big Brother," I said as I stepped up beside Yeonjun.
"I am attorney Bae Soujin, his accomplice. As someone who has also witnessed your mafia business and your wrongdoings, doing so will also have you arrested, filed to rot in jail forever. I also have the sufficient evidence I need knowing you did this for Yeonjun. I know you like cleaning yourself up, but why don't you be a bit more smarter than that?" I replied, and Big Brother sighed.
"Another attorney. Huh, this is interesting. You're both in a team, with...?" Big Brother said as he looked over to the other boys.
"Mr. Jeon! You're also here. A good person well-known in the business industry. But also runs a secret underground business," Big Brother narrowed his eyes and Jungkook stayed silent.
"Now is not the time to divert the conversation. Big Brother, tell us how you got such a number of children to act as SAN's guinea pigs? How did you get them without any birth certificates? And where do they go after nine years of age?" I asked and Big Brother sighed.
"Fine, the children I got from the orphanage. The reason why they aren't registered is because the orphanage I got them from is a secret one for mothers who don't want their kids known to anyone. They're sent to me, and they get sent to SAN, after nine years of age they're killed by the drug," Big Brother sighed.
"What about SAN? Do you know anything about them? Relationships, how you met?" I asked, and Big Brother sighed.
"I am friends with the former CEO of SAN. Then, I met Namsan, and we decided to do this," Big Brother said. "As someone who benefits a lot by using control on them, they don't have a complaint, don't they?" Big Brother smirked and Yeonjun glared at him.
"Also, about Yeonjun.... why did you choose the second born of SAN? What was your agreement and what is your purpose for Yeonjun?" I asked.
"Yeonjun caught my eye. I am friends with Mr. Choi, so I wanted to take his son into my caring hands. To make sure the bond between us strengthens and that the underground business will be as busy as before," Big Brother replied.
"And for Jungkook. Your relationship to him, and do you know anything about his business?" I asked.
I didn't disclose anything about Jihoon knowing that he probably is like a taboo that isn't supposed to be mentioned, especially when it's confused that there is only one Jeon around and he had no twin. It will only arise interest and conflict with him.
"Jungkook... Jeon ran a nice business when he turned 20. But ever since he was in good terms with SAN and Kyonghwan... you knew where it ended up. I have no interest whatsoever, such a childish play," Big Brother snorted arrogantly.
"And lastly, with kpop idol ZIKE. How did you meet him? He seemed so determined with the money you agreed to give him," I asked, and Big Brother tsked.
"That snitch. Oh well, Sunghyo is a money-hungry man. But.... Sunghyo wanted money for his girlfriend Yoona. He agreed to it because they had a secret love affair of a child. So it would be a good chance, no? An angelic idol so innocent that the netizens defend like crazy, but he hides such a sinful desire inside," Big Brother grinned.
"I guess that's what I wanted. Come one Yeonjun, let's go," I said as I grabbed his arm, and Yeonjun's eyes widened.
"What do you mean? We still haven't beaten so much sense into him! Are we really gonna leave?" Yeonjun whispered.
"I've come and he answered the questions, that's what's important. We need to leave and compile this for our evidence, thank you Mr. Big Brother," I said, and Big Brother smiled.
"No problem. See? Miss Attorney gets it! Now run along, Yeonjun. I'm having a bad day as of the moment," he said and Yeonjun sighed before following me.
-
"What was that all ab-"
"It's no point talking to him, but I think you know where I'm getting at," I said, and Yeonjun tilted his head.
"I already knew.... and I know....
...you're thinking he's lying, right?"
"Lies. All of them. Except the Jungkook part which was obvious as stated in the files. But, every question I sent him was answered with lies," I said, and Yeonjun nodded.
"Also, he avoids eye contact, he occassionally taps his fingers whilst smirking to get rid of the nervousness he's feeling. His answers are exaggerated, as if denying and making stories on the spot," I said.
"He also tries to tense whenever I ask something critical that can get him jailed, a good teller, but he's not good at concealing a lie," I said.
"Yeonjun hyung! There you are!" A boy said as he ran towards him.
"Ni-ki! What are you doing here?" Yeonjun asked.
"I think I can't walk anymore. I feel very weak today, I feel like I'm getting sleepy today, and sick," Ni-ki said softly and Yeonjun stared at him worriedly.
"And now... Big Brother is calking for me into his room. I don't know what to do hyung," Ni-ki said and Yeonjun sighed.
"I... ah... I...," Yeonjun said.
We can easily take Ni-ki and save the others... but there is something a bit hindering, the man isn't dumb to do such a thing knowing this can be a likely scenario.
Wait a minute. Something is pretty odd.
I examined Ni-ki's wrist, there was black ink on them. I slowly walked towards Yeonjun before crouching down to him.
"Yeonjun, are you seeing what I'm seeing?" I asked, and Yeonjun nodded.
"Do you notice what they're saying? They're feeling weird lately. The behaviors... it doesn't feel good. Ni-ki never cared if he's sick or not, but now he's so concerned about it," Yeonjuns said.
"There are numbers written on their wrists. Black ink with different numbers attached," I said softly before rubbing my chin, and looking to him.
"There's a possibility Big Brother was testing the LIVV on the little boys himself. But they aren't sent to SAN yet, right?" I asked.
"Yes. At this age, the boys would be sent to SAN. But Big Brother likes to keep a few boys here for... pleasant reasons. He's always had an obssession with young boys," Yeonjun muttered.
"But it's weird... the numbers... why would they mark those orphans if they will only last until...," my eyes widened as I looked at him.
"That's it! They don't last until childhood. They keep and preserve those boys until they matured into men... they control them to do what they want and make sure their lives are under SAN conpletely so they don't snitch on anyone, they inject doses into them to keep them from dying," I said.
"Those boys that grew into men could be the military men that were discharged purposely and were trained to be under SAN's troops, which explains why they're ranked under numbers according to their files that I found in SAN Lab," I said and Yeonjun nodded.
"Also, if we do take one of them with us, they will be tracked down and exposed to so much danger that they'll be killed, just like how Jongseong was easily detected with him being with us," I said.
"I'm thinking the same thing. The fact that they didn't take the childhood of the victims, but rather their whole lives, to live under such as scum as them," Yeonjun gritted.
"But the question is, who is under such an operation the bring in South Korea's military into this? SAN wouldn't be so dumb as to just do this himself," I thought.
"Sunghyo's report accurately matches the info we have. Those kids truly are under Big Brother's clutch, as if he's the one distributing a large amount of orphans to SAN. Like.... animal poultry," I said as I clenched my fists, it felt so sad knowing young boys were being treated like this.
"I do know a hunch though, the commander of the military, the general or the first one in the military may know something," Yeonjun suggested and I nodded.
"Oh Sehun?" I replied.
"I know him, Oh Sehun."
