It has been two days since you last saw Toby. He had been your best friend and pretty much protector for the passed few weeks. He found you wandering the streets after you ran away from home. Truth was, you really didn't have a reason to run. You were just sick of discipline and you wanted your own life.
You were turning to walk down an alley as a quit shot to the next street when the half-masked man ran into you. Hurriedly he apologized as he kept looking behind him. When he was saying he was sorry, you noticed he had a stutter. He extended his hand out to you and you took it. As you stood up he wrapped a hand around your mouth and told you to be quiet as you hid next to the nearest dumpster. Three people ran by and started hollering for a 'Toby'. When they got to the next street, he explained you you the situation. He was running away from his home too.
You were both now living in the woods and sleeping in stolen sleeping bags. It was the beginning of summer, so the coldness was nothing to really worry about. Toby left a couple days ago to go and find a tent, but he has yet to return.
Behind you, leaves and sticks were rustling around. There was no wind, so you knew someone was there. You picked up the hatchet that Toby left be hind for you to use as self defense and stood behind a tree. The sound was growing closer as your heartbeat grew heavier. As the figure came from beside the tree you swung the hatchet down, just barely missing its face.
"Y-Y/N!" Toby stuttered, falling backwards onto the ground and dropping everything in his hands.
"Toby! You're back! And you nearly scared me to death. It's been two days! Where have you been?" You held out you hand and helped him up.
"I-It took a-a-a while t-t-to find this s-s-stuff." He said as he bent over and picked up a bag and a box.
"What did you get?" You asked, snatching the bag out of his hands and looking through it.
"F-food and w-w-water. I-I-I also g-g-grabbed a deck o-o-of cards." He said shyly.
You pulled out a box of Poptarts, cans of food, and... "Toby. How do you expect to make these?" You held up a box of Eggo Waffles.
Toby chuckled, "Y-you haven't h-h-had campf-fire w-w-waffles bef-fore?"
You rolled you eyes and gently tapped his head with the box, "The last time we had a campfire it nearly turned into a forest fire, Toby. I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Plus they're frozen, they should be cooked soon."
Toby's eyes lit up, "C-can you m-m-make them? I-I-I-I am h-hungry."
You rolled your eyes, "What am I to do with you?"
You started the campfire, stuck the waffles onto sticks and held it over the fire. You doubted it would actually work, but when it was done and you both are up you were completely satisfied with the result. Toby had his face mask hanging on a tree branch. The sight of the bottom part of his face didn't bother you anymore, it was just one more thing you liked about him.
You laid back in on the forest ground and Toby came and laid by you. He was tossing his water bottle in the air and catching it.
"Toby?" You said looking over at him.
The bottle was up and he looked over at you as the bottle plummeted down, bouncing off of his head.
He grabbed his head, "O-ouch." He said bluntly.
You let out a loud laugh. "You made me forget what I was going to say!" You said as your laughs grew into an even louder laughter.
He was staring at you and not too much longer later he joined into your laughter.
"T-t-that was p-pretty s-s-stupid, wasn't i-it?" He chuckled.
You rolled over on your side and looked at him. He pulled his goggles up and set them on his forehead, his hair was slightly ruffled underneath them.
"How long are we going to stay here?" You asked, biting down on your bottom lip.
"F-for a-as l-long as y-you want."
Later on that night, you had both set the tent up. It took a lot of frustration, sweat and Toby laughing at you, but you got it.
"I am pooooooped." You threw your sleeping bag into the tent and flopped down on it, grunting as the hard ground below you met with your chest.
"M-m-me, Y/N. L-l-let's call i-i-it a n-n-night." He grinned at you.
You gave him a small smile as you tucked yourself into your sleeping bag next to him. You were laying on your side facing him and he was facing you.
"Good night, Toby." You yawned, nestling your head into the crook of your arm.
"G-g-good night, b-b-beautiful." He stuttered out.
