Chapter 20
Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
"Hate to break it to you Peter, but you fucked up," Marlene announced, taking a swig of some mysterious liquid.
Doe shook her head, snatching the bottle from her, "No touching the tequila. If you want tequila, buy your own."
Marlene rolled her eyes, but grinned, "Peter wants us to help with his problem, not to hear about my stealing problem."
He nodded, before looking down.
He had to get Mary back, so he enlisted her friends to win her over again. He couldn't live without her. He didn't want to live without her. She was his everything, his courage. He couldn't be brave without her.
"Just to recap, you basically said her life has been super easy and she's never suffered before?" Marlene clarified.
Doe raised an eyebrow, settling on the couch next to her girlfriend, "That's really bad."
"I know," he muttered.
He had known that eventually they would break up, she was too perfect to be with a guy like him, but he hadn't expected the huge fight. He knew it'd be hard to live without her, but he hadn't expected it to be this hard.
"Send her flowers, chicks dig flowers," Marlene suggested.
Dorcas rolled her eyes, "You can't just buy her back."
"That's what you did with me," Marlene pointed out.
They continued talking back and forth, which was really not helping Peter's anxiety.
He did not belong here. He was intruding on them. He was the extra one, the one barging in on their personal lives. He didn't belong here.
He didn't belong. He didn't belong anywhere. Everyone would be better without him.
He couldn't breathe. He felt his chest tightening up as everything seemed to be out of focus.
He stared at the couple, breathing in. Focusing on them. He had to focus on something.
Neither of them acknowledged the fact that he was out of it. They probably didn't notice.
A lot of people didn't bother notice him. What was the point? He didn't matter. Why then would people notice him?
"Mary just wants you to be genuine with her. Tell her how you feel, about everything, about her," Doe leaned forward to place a hand on his shoulder, comforting him.
"Tell the girl you love her," Marlene chimed in, leaning on top of Dorcas more.
Doe removed her hand from Peter quickly, using it to push the other girl off of her.
Marlene pouted.
The Ravenclaw of the group sighed, "There is more to it than just that."
"Basically, Mary, the innocent little darling she is I love her so much, has a kink for honesty. If you want to get back in her pants tell her the truth."
Peter sputtered, "I don't want to shag her unless she wants to. I just want to date her, be with her the rest of my life. I can't be without her."
Marlene nodded, pushing down her sunglasses, "Good. I was joking. Making sure you weren't some player that wanted to win my best friend over for the sex."
"Marley, don't be a dick to Peter. We know he's a good person," Dorcas smiled gently at him.
He stared at her.
That was untrue. He wasn't a good person. He knew that. If he was a good person he wouldn't have taken the life of someone else. More importantly, he wouldn't have hurt Mary. He wouldn't have pushed a goddess away from him. He had been blessed and he had lost that chance to be with her. If he was a good person he would never have lost her. He would've belonged with her in the first place. But he didn't and he wasn't.
He was a bad person, a coward. He was scared to fight in this war, but mostly scared to live without her. He couldn't live without her.
So he would win her over again, make sure that she came back to him. Catch a goddess again, keep her this time. Make sure she never left him again.
Dorcas stared back at him, raising an eyebrow but saying nothing. She seemed to almost know what he was thinking a lot of times.
She was like Moony, knowing something was wrong but not wanting to get into it. Perhaps that's why they had tricked everyone at Hogwarts to think they were dating.
"Go get 'em Peter," Marlene encouraged from the couch, "Or don't. Just get out of the house so I can have date night with my girlfriend."
He headed to the door, Dorcas following him outside.
"You okay?" She asked.
He knew that she didn't really want to hear about his problems. She had someone she needed to get back to.
So he smiled slightly, "Yeah. I will be as soon as I talk to her."
"I get that," she nodded, "Good luck."
And with that he apparated away to try and win back the girl of his dreams.
He did not know what he was going to do but he knew one thing.
He had no idea what he was going to do if this didn't work out.
