Chapter 15 - Nicolas

After dinner was over, it was time for us to leave since it was past Gabi's bedtime.

"Goodnight, guys, I'm glad you came!" Uncle Filip waved as we got into the car.

I threw my head back onto the head rest and huffed out a sigh. I closed my eyes and then relaxed in my seat while everyone else got buckled into the car. The sudden pressure on my cheek notified me the little devil had chose to sit by me.

"What do you want, Twerp?" I asked in an agitated tone.

"First off, don't call me that, and second, I'm bored." Noah replied before taking his hand away and crossing his arms. He sure did pout a lot.

"Just play on your phone or something, just don't bug me." I said. I tilted my head to the left in order for it to lean against the window. As I opened my eyes, I finally noticed how bright the moon really was. "Hey, dad," I called to him.

"Yes, Nic?" he replied.

"What did Grandpa Dalca say about the moon again?"

"He said that the three colors represent the major creatures of the night. Blue is the werewolf, red is the vampire, and golden is the witches and warlocks. When in one of the colors, the selected species is stronger than the others, having an advantage with their upped abilities."

"Ah, alright." I continued to look up at the moon as we started to drive away. Small little puffs of smoke seemed to be drifting upwards in front of the moon, their image looked like mushrooms and the color was a dark gray. They seemed to shift a little bit to the right only seconds later, most likely from a breeze.

We soon arrived back to the house, everyone being very quiet as we entered. I immediately went straight for the bedroom Noah and I had to share in order to get ready for bed. Once I was in the room I locked the door. Now Noah would have to wait, I needed my privacy. Unzipping my bag, I changed my clothes rather quickly due to the need of needing to go to bed quickly. I threw on a sweat shirt and some pajama bottoms, not caring if they matched or not.

"Nic, hurry up!" Noah called from the other side.

"Hold on a second! Gosh." I mumbled the last part to myself as I grabbed my toothbrush and the toothpaste that my parents bought at the airport. I then gave Noah the room as I went downstairs to brush my teeth. Arguing could be heard as I made my way to the first floor. I stopped on the fifth step up from the top and peeked down below to see my dad and uncle fighting.

"Look, I don't care about your issue, Anasztáz. No one can control it! Plus, I don't think you would be able to handle the responsibilities us Nobles have to take on, they are too difficult."

"Too difficult? Too difficult?!" Anasztáz shouted back, slamming the palm of his hand on the marble counter in the process. "I have to take care of a bunch of shit all day in the office, my people are complete idiots, and I have to clean up after them! I think I can handle the responsibilities of a werewolf, so stop thinking of me as the one without the gift!"

"Anasztáz, being a werewolf is no gift, it's a curse that we cannot break. Our family will forever have it until the end of time. Do you want something that can possibly destroy your life? You could lose your wife and daughter, think of the pain that will put you in if you were one." My dad said, keeping a calm demeanor the entire time.

"Fine then, don't let me join the circle. Be the pathetic wolf you are." Anasztáz spoke before spitting at my dad, the spit landing on the lenses of his glasses. He stood still as Anasztáz walked away from him and towards the stairs. I kept still as he started his way up, his hateful stare now fixed at me. "You're lucky I can't tear you apart." He whispered harshly in my ear as he walked up the stairs. I turned to stare at the back of his head, confusion engulfing my mind. Why was he so angry about not being a werewolf? Did he want to deal with the issues that came with it?

"Nicolas Serenity," my dad started. He took a handkerchief out of his back pocket and took off his glasses and wiped them clean.

"Yes?" I asked while turning my head back around and walking down the stairs.

"Please forget about the argument your uncle and I had. You have nothing to do with it, and it should stay that way. Now, go do what you need to do and go to bed right after."

"Yes, sir." I walked off to the bathroom and brushed my teeth, I also cleaned my face of makeup as well. I then walked back up the two sets of spiral staircases to get to my bedroom. Once I entered, I noticed Noah sprawled over the entire bed, no area for me to sleep. Sighing, I climbed onto the bed and over Noah. I leaned against the wall with my legs folded up to my chest. Taking one foot, I rested the arch on his side and nudged him slightly. He didn't move at all. I then pushed - more like kicked - Noah off of the bed. He fell to the floor with a thud, the only thing that left his mouth was a snort.

"Dang, I can't believe he didn't wake up from that." I said to myself. I then pulled the sheets back on the bed and went under them. This one day stay was hectic, I wanted to go home right away tomorrow morning.

"Hey!" I shouted as a large ball of tightly packed snow hurled right towards me. I turned away from it and ducked as well. As I stayed low to the ground, I gathered up a bit of snow, hoping to surprise Molly when I came back up.

"Yo, Nic, what are you doing?" Gwen shouted from her bomb shelter.

I stood back up, back still facing Molly and Gwen. "Take this!" I shouted as I spun around and pitched the snowball over-handed.

It hit Molly right in the face, knocking her to the ground as well. "Ow!" she cried.

"Oh my gosh, are you alright?" I called out to her, running over to her with Gwen right behind me.

"Owowowow...." Molly whined while still lying flat in the four feet of snow.

"Molly," I bent over and knelt down next to her, "I'm so-- Gah!" I screamed as she yanked me by the forearm and down in the snow with her.

She stood up and kicked some snow onto me. "Payback!" She cheered while giving Gwen a highfive.

"You're evil, you know that?" I groaned out of irritation. I can't believe I fell for something as lame as that.

"And that's why you love me." Molly spoke while placing a finger on her rosy cheek. "By the way, I'm not helping you up."

"Oh? How come?" I asked while looking at the fluffy clouds above. My fingers were starting to go numb, my ears were also burning due to how cold it was.

"Because you will trick me!" She squeaked in happiness. Her face was almost as red as her fuzzy ski cap. Her hair had started to fall out of it, most of her curly black locks now framed her face. Gwen still looked the same with her cupcake scarf wrapped around her face and neck, her hair was just peeking out of her baby pink knit cap.

I sat upright and shook my head to free my hair from the chunks of snow sticking to it. "Do you guys want to go inside? It's getting pretty cold out here." I started to stand up slowly, trying to not make my legs any colder. Snow pants might have been a good option, my jeans were wet and cold, not to mention my legs were chilled to the bone.

"Sure, but you better have some coffee or hot cocoa to drink, the fire should be lit as well." Gwen said as she started to walk to the back door. Molly and I followed behind her, both of us shivering like chihuahuas. We entered the house and immediately took off our snow caked boots and wiggling our stiff and frozen toes.

Noah came running down the stairs and spun around at one hundred and eighty degrees to look at us. He gave us a weird look before finally jumping off the bottom step and running into the living room. The sound of the xbox notified us that he had taken the television from us. We continued to strip of our outerwear and then headed to the kitchen to get something warm to eat and drink.

"What would you guys like?" I asked while opening the refrigerator and looking for something to heat up. Gwen walked behind me and pulled three packets of hot cocoa mix from the glass jar on the counter. Molly propped herself up on the little island and looked in the fridge as well from behind me.

"Do you have graham crackers? We could heat up the fudge and dunk the crackers in it." Molly suggested while rubbing her feet together, they were probably sore from the muscles being frozen just moments ago.

"That sounds like a good idea. Hey, Gwen, do you want to try it?" I asked her as I turned to see her already filling three mugs with the packets.

"Sure, it sounds yummy." She said while pouring the mix into the last cup. "Nic, do you still have those tiny marshmallows?"

"Yeah, they are in the pantry."

"Okay, thanks. You two want some in your cocoa as well, right?" She asked as she went to the pantry in-between the stove and refrigerator.

"Of course!" Molly and I turned our heads to glare at each other jokingly before cracking up at the coincidence. "Jinx. Double Jinx! Triple Jinx!!" We laughed even harder, me falling down and holding onto the ice box handle while Molly slipped and fell on top of me. We were a laughing mess.

"Nic, you might want to shut the fridge, don't want your parents yelling at you for a high electricity bill." Gwen patronized as she snatched the jar of hot fudge from the fridge and popped it into the microwave.

"Sorry," I apologized through laughs. I shut the door and propped myself up on my elbows. "Molly, can you please get off? It is uncomfortable with your knees going into my legs."

Molly stuck her tongue at me before standing up and giving me a helping hand. I then brushed the back of my pants off due to the dirt on the floor. The microwave then went off, indicating the fudge was done being cooked. I grabbed a few paper towels and folded them together, I then opened the microwave and pulled the jar out with them.

"Hey, Gwen, did you fill the mugs with hot water?" Molly asked.

"Oh no!" Gwen said in a panic as she grabbed the measuring cup off of the counter and filled it up under the tap. She then microwaved it and poured it into a mug. She repeated the process two more times. "Now they're done." She said while setting the measuring cup in the sink and wiping her slightly wet hands on her bright green sweater.

"Good, because I want some cocoa!" Molly said cheerfully while jumping up and down, waiting for me and Gwen to move out of the way.

"Let's go to my room." I said before grabbing the graham crackers and following them up the stairs. We entered the room and sat on my bed, placing the drinks on my desk and nightstand. The fudge and graham crackers were set on a little cardboard box I had set on my bed earlier.

"It sure was cold outside." Gwen said as she shuddered.

"True dat," Molly said while taking a sip of her cocoa. She froze a second afterward, trying to make the burning of the drink go away.

"Is it hot?" I asked while scooping up some fudge on a graham cracker.

She nodded quickly before taking a breath again. "Yeah, better wait a few more minutes for it to cool down." She set it back on my desk before pulling her phone out of the pocket on the front of her shirt.

"Hey, Molly," Gwen started. Molly looked up at her. "No phones, put it away."

"Bossy pants," Molly mumbled before putting her phone back in her pocket. "I got a text from my grandma, I was going to answer it."

"Then go home if you want to talk to her. You chose to hang out with me and Nic today, that means you enjoy spending time with us, not your phone." Gwen said while taking a bite of a cracker.

"Sorry," Molly spoke as she rested her hands behind her back. "What should we do, then? I'm pretty bored."

"Well, we can talk, can't we?" I spoke up.

"What about? I can't think of anything."

"Well, isn't there going to be some big event coming into town soon?" Gwen asked.

"No," I sighed. "There's the stupid talent show, though. People are going to try to show off like they usually do."

"Wait, isn't that what Veronica enters every year and wins?" Molly asked me.

"Yes, but she only wins because her mother runs the event every year. She also is one of the most popular girls in school as well, not to mention a major bitch." I mumbled the last part.

"Yeah, she's rude to everyone and has no respect for them. She says she's humble, but I don't see that at all." Gwen chimed in.

"And now we have the Kirovs to worry about as well, both Erik and Erika are jerks." I said as I sat up straight and tucked a loose strand behind my ear.

"Really? I actually think Erik is pretty cute, why would you hate him and his sister?" Gwen asked me, turning her head to look at me as well.

"He knocked her onto the pavement during first trimester, never said sorry for hurting her either. He also called her a freak as well." Molly told her.

"Wow, he's that rude? I thought he was just a normal loner. You'd think that by his looks." Gwen said, a little surprised.

"Well, he is one. So stop fawning over him and go make out with Austin instead." I said with a laugh and pushed her slightly.

"Hey! We do not make out." Gwen defended herself.

"Yeah right, we know you two have kissed." Molly said in a singsong voice. She grabbed another cracker out of the box and dunked it in the jar of fudge, it stuck for a moment causing her to struggle to move it. The cracker then snapped in half, one piece in her hand and the other piece in the fudge. "Shit. Um, the fudge is cold." She said as she pulled the one piece out of the jar, lumps of cold fudge stuck to it, making it look like it had tumors.

"Here, I'll go do it," Gwen spoke. She grabbed the jar and hoped off of my bed to go downstairs.

"Wow, I thought it would've stayed warm a bit longer. Weird," I said while munching on a plain graham cracker.

"It was supposed to, I cooled it down." Molly said.

I froze for a moment and then turned to face her, cracker being held in my mouth by my teeth. "What?" I asked, the cracker fell into my lap.

"I cooled the fudge down in order to get Gwen to leave." Molly then scooted closer to me, so close that our faces were only about eight centimeters apart. "I know you're a werewolf, Nic. You can't hid it from me."

"I-I don't know what you're talking about!" I told her, shock and fear were taking over. How did she find out about my secret?!

"Don't worry, Nic. No one else in our group knows about it, not even Aster."

"But, how did you find out? I haven't told anyone about this."

"Well, did your dad tell you about a witch's abilities?" Molly asked me, a grin appearing on her face.

"No, but there's no way you're a witch!" This was insane, how could she be a witch? She was clumsy and very idiotic, her brain only functions when in the classroom.

"Do I have to prove it to you?" She sighed as she returned to her former position, this time leaving a hand in front of her. Molly then closed her eyes in concentration and mouthing out words, they were barely audible. After few seconds, a small leaf appeared in the palm of her hand and rose upward; a stem connected to it appeared and became taller and taller. Soon enough, it stopped at the size of an average sprout.

"How did you--?" No more words could come out. She was telling the truth?!

Molly laughed, "You believe me now, don't you?"

"Well, yeah, there's no way someone can make a plant appear out of nowhere."

"Technically," she tilted her hand towards me, showing the plant had broken through a seed. "I just made it come out of here. It's tough work when it's not in soil and doesn't have water, but it'spossible."

"Wow, that's crazy." I spoke while inspecting it. The sound of footsteps came, signalling Gwen had returned. "Quick, throw it out!" Molly scrambled to the window and opened it, throwing the sprout out of the window.

"Molly, why do you have the window open?" Gwen asked, shivering slightly.

"Sorry, it was kinda stuffy in here. Do you have the fudge?" Molly asked as she shut the window and rested her back on it.

"Yeah," Gwen got back on the bed, "It wouldn't heat for some reason. It hasn't expired." She looked at the fine print on the label of the jar as Molly and I glanced at each other, she gave me a wink.

"Well, it's warm now. Let's eat some more!" I said as I jumped for the glass container.

"Hey! Don't burn me!"
