chapter 12
We need to do something I feel useless just sitting around waiting like this she thought.
She walked along the shore of the Rosewing island. The island was large enough where she would not be able to make a full lap of the island in the day. Though it is much smaller then the Tidestream island.
She kinda wondered what her future would bring after the war and everything. Well I find an dragon I generally enjoy being around.
She had crushes in the past but whenever she got to know them the dragons in question were always awful so she was kinda weary sharing her feelings and if she had a crush on somedragon.
The last crush she had shared her feelings about to her sister had in fact turned out to be awful and Minnow had teased her about it for a good two years.
"Hey Aqua what's on your mind" Gale asked as she fell into step beside her.
"Uh I was just kinda thinking about the chaotic mess of my past crushes" Aquamarine responded.
"Who needs Crushes when you can be AroAce" Gale asked.
The duo broke into a fit of snickers. "Not every dragon can be cool and AroAce like you Gale" she told the slightly younger StormTalon.
"I dunno it seems possible" Gale stated.
"Plus how would we get any cute dragonets?" Aquamarine asked.
"Were you a cute dragonet?" Gale asked.
"Cute and fierce" she answered.
"So why were you thinking about crushes?" Gale questioned.
"My mind wanders when I'm taking walks swims or flights by myself" Aquamarine explained.
"Oh okay" Gale shifted her wings slightly.
"Do you think there's anything we can really help with while we look for a way to dethrone Fern?" Aquamarine asked.
Gale shrugged. "Dunno maybe see if Fern is up to anything to surprise us with".
She had left Seafoam to his nap back at the cave.
I swear when we are not up to work he spends that entire time either sleeping or grooming.
The two of them kinda fell into a silence.
"You know you seem like a pretty nice dragon Gale you must have learned from someone amazing" Aquamarine commented.
"I...I learned from my grandmother she's awesome" Gale responded.
Aquamarine forgot that they were two separate tribes and that it probably wasn't normal for other tribes to be missing members of there family.
"Wanna explore the forest?" Aqua suggested.
"Sure" Gale agreed.
They turned off their current path and walked toward and into the forest.
The shade of the trees were cast on their scales.
"So what were you up to before you knew were a part of this prophecy" Aquamarine asked.
"I kinda have lived with my grandmother after my parents died when I was young and I've kinda lived with her ever since til now" Gale responded a sadder tone to her voice.
"Oh I'm sorry losing someone close to you is never fun" Aquamarine laid a wing over Gale's back unsure of how her StormTalon friend would react.
Gale smiled. "Thanks".
Aquamarine stood up on her back legs and grabbed a mango. She quickly cut it and gave one half of the mango to Gale.
"Oh thanks!" Gale thanked her.
The two of them ate the mango then continued on their walk.
"That was good" Gale told her.
She had ate quite a few different types of foods that she could eat quickly before heading out for whatever she needed to be heading out to do.
And in that category was fruits and an assortment of other foods.
"I noticed you don't have all that many scars" Gale commented.
"Yeah I never really had to deal with any big battles mostly pretty calm patrols" Aquamarine agreed.
She stepped through a largish bush and held it to the side so Gale could walk through.
Gale stepped through and Aquamarine fell back in step with her friend.
It's nice to have plenty of close friends. She thought happily.
No more dragons should die and we should end this war as fast as we can her mind had to go to a sadder thought.
"So what do you think we should be doing next?" Gale asked.
"I mean I guess we can see if we can talk with Fern and change her mind about everything with the misfit Rosewings" Aquamarine suggested.
"You know that's a great idea" Gale agreed.
The walked around until they eventually found the village.
"Now just to find Fern" Gale stated.
They hunted around for the Rosewing Queen.
They found her coming from a meeting with some older dragons.
"Hello Fern" Gale greeted her.
Fern turned and looked over. "What do you want?."
"Well we wanted to see if you'd like to talk. We're interested in the reasons why you don't really like the misfits" Aquamarine explained. Her finned tail held high in a sign of greeting.
Fern sighed "Okay come on I'll bring you somewhere so we can talk in peace" Fern replied.
She seemed tired. Was her work as Queen really pushing her this hard? She wondered.
Fern brought them over to an treehouse and inside.
"Is this your home?" Gale asked with interest clear in her voice.
"Me and Lichens" Fern responded.
"You seem really tired and you having trouble sleeping or something?" Gale asked.
Fern turned and glared at her "I dunno my blind brother is missing do you think there's a reason to having problems with sleep" she snapped.
"Hey! She was just asking a question you don't need to snap!" Aquamarine growled.
"Do you think he left because he thought you'd chase him out too?" Gale asked.
"He left before I made any of the misfits leave" Fern stated.
"But he must have knew of your plans and was just respecting them and leaving early" Aquamarine suggested.
"That is true" Gale agreed.
"I guess it is" Fern responded.
"Fern Can I ask you a question?" Aquamarine asked.
"Uh sure?" She replied.
"Why don't you like most of the misfits? I mean since your fine with Mushroom and Lichen" Aquamarine questioned.
"I don't believe they should be trusted with the power they have" Fern answered.
"I hope you don't mind me asking this but did a misfit do something to you or your family in the past?" Gale asked.
"Wait out here" Fern told them and then walked off down a hall.
A few minutes later she returned with an scroll. "Here's why" she said handing the scroll to Gale.
When the StormTalon unrolled it they could see it was a report on a problem that had happened years ago now.
It marked the death of three Rosewings.
"Two of them were my parents who were killed by an misfit" Fern explained. "And Ginger the one who killed my parents got killed by an misfit".
"Oh...not every dragon is bad you know. You just need to give others a chance" Gale told her.
"And that's what you say and I am the Queen around here and still overrule you" Fern growled and flared her wings out.
"Yeah and we're not Rosewings" Gale responded.
Aquamarine nudged Gale. "That's not how things work it's that we have to listen to the leader of the kingdom we are in."
"Oh I didn't realize that was the case" Gale responded.
"Now Leave!" Fern growled.
Aquamarine nodded and brought Gale out of the tree home they had left the report scroll in there since it clearly belonged to Fern.
"That was interesting though I don't think Fern listened to what we said about giving the misfits a chance" Gale stated.
"Yeah I think you're right but who knows maybe she'll change her mind in the future" Aquamarine agreed.
And maybe this war well end on it's own but that's only as possible as a shark flying she mentally added.
Fern didn't seem like the type of dragon to change her mind on something she was sure of.
The sun was beginning to dip under the tree line. "We should probably get started on our way back to the cave" Aquamarine suggested.
"Yeah we should." Gale nodded in agreement.
They walked along and out of the forest to head on and back to the cave.
They had been able to accomplish something today even if it was something small.
The dusk light shown through the forest and lit the trees with an orange glow.
They eventually made it back to the beach.
Swoop
He lay in bed memories of the time he had spent with his brother over the years often clouded his brain but he hid that from his tribe and made it look as though he stayed strong throughout it all to give them hope for the future even though he grieved for his brother.
The tribe has to have a strong leader to guide them one who can't be distracted by their own emotions.
I don't even really know how to lead a tribe that had always been Crow's thing.
He closed his eyes though the world through his vision still remained dark.
I miss you brother. He thought sadly.
He had found it increasingly difficult to get to sleep every night since his brain would be so active from the days events. Everything from leading a tribe was still so new.
He laid in bed attempting to calm his far to active brain.
But what about figuring out a way to end the war?.
He stretched and got up. Sleep was impossible at the moment his brain was just to active.
His wings were carefully folded at his sides.
He walked through the halls of his home the royal Featherscale caverns.
The royals home to his knowledge had never been nicely decorated instead the decorations were sparse and plain.
He heard a few dragons on guard murmur to each other as he walked past though not loud enough for him to hear.
Did I forget to open my eyes again? He wondered. He tried at opening them and they in fact were still shut.
I'm such a Featherbrain. He thought to himself
