chapter 5

I rushed the dragonets deeper inside quickly. I had heard the sounds of wing beats and strong waves crashing Hard against the cliffs. The sounds that happened when Tidestream's came to attack.

And I really didn't want a remake of what happened to Falcon. He had been so young when the Tidestream's attacked and they had killed him like the rest of my family. My parents had died in a battle before Falcon had hatched I had been only one year old and I didn't remember them all too well.

And then just two years later they came back and killed my brother leaving me with no family at all.

"Buts Robi you says we could go out flying toda" one of the dragonets complained to me.

"I got news it isn't safe today" I reply. I tend to try to keep my frustrations about this stupid war and the stupid Tidestreams out of my voice when speaking to the dragonets, they hadn't done anything wrong they were just born at an horrible time.

"Buts why it nots safe" he asked. He flapped his tiny feathered wings in annoyance.

"Well Hawk, Robin could have seen an strong storm coming in and didn't want you guys to get caught in it." Nest another caretaker came over and spoke to the young dragonet.

Hawk had lost his parents before he had hatched and they were the dragons who took care of me when I was younger so I vowed to protect him with my life and give him a better life. So I had basically adopted him

"Ffffffiiiiiiiinnnnnnnneeeee" Hawk grumbled. Shaking his head as he dragged out the word.

Me Nest and a few others took care of the young dragonets especially the ones who didn't have dragons to take care of them already.

"Hey Hawk wanna come hear a story?" Dove asked. She always had an way with the dragonets who were being an problem.

"Yes!" He answered with an high amount of enthusiasm.

"Well then come and sit down and I'll tell you a story" Dove told him.

"Tell us about the dragon who protectet this place" Thrush said.

"About our King?" Dove askes

"Uh I gues" Thrush answered shrugging.

"Okay I'll tell you about how King Crow bravely protected this nursery from the evil Tidestream's" Dove said.

That has always been what we have been told that the Tidestream's were evil and couldn't ever be trusted.

Maybe that'd be differ-no Tidestream's killed innocent dragonets and are the ones who have King Crow imprisoned along with many other Featherscales.

Dove had distracted the dragonets from wanting to go out for a flight I think as I watched the dragonets as they listened to the story and more of the dragonets had came over to listen as well.

I felt a dragonet grab my leg and I turn my head to look down and saw one of the older dragonets stareing up at me.

"Yes Kestrel?" I ask.

"Since we can'ts go outside for flying can wess make flying course in here's" Kestrel asked.

"I'll have to see with Nest and Dove if it's a good idea" Robin answered.

Crane popped her head around the corner.

"We could set up a temporary one and then work on carving out a permanent in one of the spare rooms" Crane suggested.

And then Crane went back to the kitchen.

Kestrel ran over to Dove who was forced on the story she was telling.

"Dove" she said.

Dove paused the story.

"Yes Kestrel" she asked.

"Coulds we make a flying course" Kestrel asked.

"Do Crane, Nest and Robin agree?" Dove asked.

We were the ones who had already completed there training.

"Yeah we do" I answer. Nest walked up and nodded. "Mhm we do."

"Then I can see if I can get a few carvers to do it but I'm going to wrap up this story and then we can make a plan for how we want the flying course to look" Dove said.

"Okay" Kestrel said and sat down.

The story's about King Crow were Hawk and Kestrel's favorites but hey its technically history and its good that the dragonets like to hear about their tribes past.

I went to get some work papers that the carvers often used for blueprints

"Wess had papers why couldn't I'ss draw on thems" Cardinal asked.

"Because you never asked" I answer smiling down.

"Oh....I'ss guess I'ss never asked befores" Cardinal said.

"Hey Robin I'm done so can you bring the paper here please" Dove asked.

"Oh yeah that's why I grabbed it" I answer.

I walk over to Dove and gave her the paper.

"I'll go grab the ink now" I say.

And walked back to grab the ink and once I had it I returned to Dove and the dragonets and gave Dove the pots

The ink was washable in case the dragonets used it on the walls

We gave each dragonet a paper and once all the dragonets were done they would take all the best ideas and mix them together and make a more finished looking idea for a flight course.

I was watching Hawk do his and listening to him as he explained his idea for what to do as he drew.

We were sitting side by side

Nest and Crane came out with the dragonets Lunch.

"Oh it looks like it's a art party" Nest observed.

The lunch was made up of fruits and veggies and cooked meat and it was mostly stuff like rabbits and mice no birds and there were some fish and dried kelp which not many of the dragonets liked though I did like the dried kelp.

Hawk looked up from his paper.

"Food time?" He asked.

"Yep but do you want to have some dried Kelp with me?" I reply.

"No dry kelp yucky." Hawk answered.

"What but I think it's delicious." I say

"It not delicious it yucky" Hawk replied

"Well guess what Hawk you may think it doesn't taste good but I like it." I say.

"what's eaver" Hawk replied.

Dove giggled because Hawk tryed to put on a grumpy face but it looked like he had just bit a lemon and once he saw that his favorite food was on one of the two trays of food his silly looking grumpy face disappeared.

I grab a few pieces before being swatted away by Nest.

"Rude." I comment.

"Claws off You have your own tray of dried kelp in the kitchen" Nest said.

"I do...cool" I say.

And I walk to the kitchen to grab my tray of dried kelp.

And then I returned to Hawk who sat by his work eating his favorite food peaches and his tiny grin was adorable.

He looked up and saw me with my tray of dried kelp.

"Whys do you have so much kelp?" He asked.

He had quite the confused look on his face.

"Because I like it and Nest knows it so she made this tray for me" I answer.

"Oh" and he went to munching on his peaches his little grin returning.

"You know you get this adorable little grin when you eat peaches" I say.

"I'ss do?" Hawk asked.

"Yep" I answer.

"And it's only peaches I've seen you eat other stuff and not get the same grin." I say.

"I'ss didn't realize I'ss did." Hawk replied.

We ate together Hawk ended up finishing first then he went back to drawing .

I watched as he drew and of course ate my dried kelp.

"It looks like Robin is the last one eating...again" Nest said.

"Whatever." I reply with an small snicker.

Once all the dragonets finished up we laid the papers on shelfs to dry since they couldn't be left on the floor or the dragonets would ruin them by running over them.

"So when you going to give its to the carvers" Kestrel asked.

"After there dry we'll look over them and decide which would be the funnest for you guys" I answer.

The oldest Dragonets in the nursery were Hawk and Kestrel who were both four months old and their hatching days were only a few days apart.

They'd be starting defense training with me tomorrow and before that I'd have to ask if either of them wanted to become caretakers of the dragonets like me.

"Kestrel play with me" Hawk called.

"Okay I'll be the evil Tidestream's and you be the fearsome Featherscale and wess battle" Kestrel instructed.

"Okay" he responded.

"Rawwr fear me I ma powerful Featherscale and you'll nevera defeat me" Hawk spoke with an amused growl.

"No I'ss the evil Tidestream's I cames to destroy you" Kestrel replied and jumped at Hawk.

They tumbled around in there play fight giggling and overall having fun.

When Featherscale dragonets are young our legs are all the same size but when we get older our hind legs get longer then our front legs

I watched as I munch on my dried kelp.

Hawk threw Kestrel off and she thuded against the wall.

"Oh sorry Kestrel I'ss didn't mean to threw you off like that's" Hawk apologized quickly.

"I'ss okay" Kestrel replied.

"Why don't you play a non fighting game." I suggest.

"Thens what should wess play then?" Kestrel asked

"Hmm...I don't know but if you think about it maybe you could come up with something, Be creative!" I answer

"Hmm....okay" Kestrel replied.

We sat down and thought of ideas together, which was more of speaking any ideas that came to them aloud.

And Cardinal ran over to us.

"Cans I has more paper to draws on" Cardinal asked.

"Sure." I answer.

I get up and grabbed some more paper and a pot of ink and gave them to Cardinal who happily got to drawing.

I hear the tap of a Featherscales claws as someone one enters the cavern I turn to see who it is.

"Hello Prince Swoop" I greet him an smile forming on my face.

"Hi Robin" Swoop replied returning my smile. Swoop has very little vision but he struggles to see in the darker environments, good thing these caves are well lit past the entry point. The glowing Sunstone necklace was something he wore to help light up his environment.

Dove looked up from what she was doing. "Is Robin's lovebird here?" She smirks.

"He is not my lovebird." I respond.

Lovebird was what we Featherscales called our mates.

"He's your lovebird! He's your lovebird!" Kestrel and Hawk sang as they ran over.

"He is not my lovebird!" I growl and ruffle the feathers on their little heads.

"Thens why dos yous seem so lovely dovely togethers." Kestrel asked.

I hear Swoop giggle.

Swoop had lost his brother Crow to the Tidestream's, he wasn't dead like Falcon but imprisoned for some reason.

"He is not.....my....lovebird." I try to tell them again.

"Yes he is yes he us." Hawk stated.

"Just ignore them for right now they are trying to annoy you." Swoop snickers.

"You know they'd make the perfect mates." Nest said

"Can you just stop with this! Please?" I ask.

"No no no!" Kestrel answered.

"You have been teaching them the ways of the shipper haven't you?" I accuse Dove and Nest.

"I have."

Can't they just leave us to be friends and not bother us about our relationship? I wonder.

I could see Hawk was now sneaking up on Kestrel to jump a surprise attack.

"Waits where's is Hawk gones?" Kestrel asked. Hawk froze at that comment.

"I don't know Kestrel." I shrug.

Hawk Continued to sneak up on Kestrel until he was close enough to jump. He leapt landed on her. Kestrel let out a chirp of surprise

They tumble around the nursery letting out little battle crys and giggles.

Until Kestrel finally had Hawk pinned. She really is an excellent fighter.

"That way you don't attack me." Kestrel told Hawk.

"Gets off me." Hawk complained.

"No I won say Kestrel won and I'lls get off." Kestrel told him.

"You won." Hawk spoke in an annoyed tone. "Goods enough" Kestrel said and hopped off him. And she can be a snappy young dragonet.

"So what brings you here today Swoop." I ask

"Just coming to check in you know something I've got to do as acting King but honestly I don't mind it let's me come and see you" Swoop answered.

"You must be joking on the seeing part." I say, he let's me make these types of jokes around him.

"Obviously I am joking." Swoop replied. He rolls his eyes at me.

"Yeah cause how could a blind dragon come to See someone." I agree with an giggle.

He knows just the ways to make me laugh I think with an smile.

But alas no happy moment can stay that way for long especially not in the dragonet nursery.

I felt a sharp pain in my leg. I look down and saw Kestrel had bit me.

"Yous were ignoring me so that hoe I'ss get your attention." Kestrel told me. She was of course trying to make it look as tho she were innocent though after bitting me she wasn't really

"So you bit me." I ask.

"Yep." Kestrel answered and grinned.

"Kestrel no bitting others it bad." Hawk scolded her.

"You not in charge." Kestrel shot back.

"Wells you still shouldn't bite other dragos" Hawk replied.

"She's right Hawk your not in charge though you are right with the fact that bitting innocent dragons is bad." Swoop stated

"Says Robin lovebird." Kestrel said in a sing song voice.

"Yeah Robins Lovebird." Hawk aggred.

"Seriously stop with those comments we're not lovebirds." I tell them shooting an glare back at Dove.

"Yet yet yet but you well be soon soon soon." Kestrel stated.

"And Robin well bes important and a Queen." Hawk agreed.

"Are you saying I'm not important right now?" I ask.

"Yep yep yep" Kestrel answered. Dragonets have no filter.

"I take care of the dragonets I'm plenty important but Swoop isn't the actual King he's just the acting King." I state.

"Everyone is important in there own ways." Swoop agrees with me.

"Well said." I tell him

"Thanks Robin." Swoop replied and nuzzled me

"They should be Lovebirds!!" Kestrel shouted.

"Though I should probably head out now, bye Robin" Swoop pulled away smiling at me.

"Don't go. Robin tell him how you feel I'ss heard you say you loves him." Kestrel said.

She was right I had told the male presenting caretaker Albatros how I felt because all the other female presenting ones liked to ship dragons though Albatros was currently out hunting.

"Well Robin got anything to say?" Swoop asked.

"You know how I feel Swoop why do I need to repeat it for the dragonets?" I ask.

"For the entertainment of the young ones." Swoop suggests.

"No thanks you already know how I feel." I say.

"Come on Robin it'd be real fun." Nest states.

Then Albatros interrupted right on time walking in an empty bag thrown over his shoulder. Looks like he didn't have any luck today. "What's going on here?" He asked.

Albatros was the youngest caretaker being only a few years younger then I am, though he was still in training

"Robin telling Swoop she loves him" Kestrel answered.

"I was not doing anything of the sort." I answer

"Oh well don't let me interrupt...whatever is going on here." He responded an small laugh escaping.

"Oh Robin it's okay to pour your feelings out for me I won't mind." he responded.

"You are stupid. " I sigh.

"If you say so." Swoop laughed.

"Sometimes I do wonder what made you interesting to me." I say.

"Oh Robin you know how much I care why don't you say how you feel too." Swoop replied.

"Swoop and Robin flying in the sky-" Dove began to sing.

"Stop it with that." I growl.

"Yeah you shouldn't be annoying Robin she may seem nice and gentle but wow she's strong" Albatros put in, he didn't choose sides based on his friends but who he thought was in the right.

Albatros always seemed like he could go on for the longest and he could probably fly for a long time to which I thought was fitting seeing as he was named after the wandering Albatros that literally flew across the sea and used more energy at the nest then it did in the air.

"Oh dose Alba also like Robins?" Hawk asked.

"No I was just siding with her because she has like half of this place against her and I see her side as the right side." Albatros answered.

"Now seriously I'm heading out bye Robin" Swoop said. He then walked out of the nursery.

"No luck with the hunting?" Nest asked.

"Not unless I wanted to be spotted." Albatros answered.

"Have the Tidestream's really gotten this close?" I ask.

"Well it looked as though they were coming for a battle and you have to consider that they don't know we are in here." Albatros answered.

"Robins can we play with you?" Hawk asked.

"Well what do you want to play?" I ask.

"Uh we battle you" Hawk suggested

"Or I can make a scavenger hunt for colored rocks." I suggest. I was really not in the mood to be tackled by two dragonets.

"Yes yes yes" Hawk and Kestrel agreed.

"Okay you go do something else and I'll hide the rocks." I say

Hawk then jumped on Kestrel to distract her and himself. They are just obsessed with there battle games.

I went and grabbed a basket of painted stones out of our storage.

I went and hid the stones all around the cave then once I was done.

"Dragonets I've got a game." I call. My voice echoed perfectly through the cave.

The dragonets gather around me asking what the game is. So I explain what they were doing and as soon as I had finished the dragonets raced off to find the stones.

"I'ss found a blue Stone" Hawk squawked excitedly.

"Well I'ss found a green one" Kestrel said.

I sit down and watch as the dragonets find Stone after Stone and returned them to the basket. Once they were done Hawk ran up to me.

"I found the most didn't I didn't I?" Hawk asked

"You all found a good amount." I reply.

"Thats not the answer I was asking foe." Hawk complained.

"Too bad that's the only answer I'm giving." I answer and smirking at his grumbling.

"What's Hawks problem?" Nest askes.

"That I'm not giving him the answer he wants." I answer.

"Heheh of course." Nest replied.

"Dragonets have the dumbest reasons to be upset." Nest said as she shook her head.

"Wes do not!" Hawk yelped.

"Yes you hehehe do." I argue.

"No dragonets don!!!" Hawk screeched.

"Hawks calm downs." Kestrel said.

Kestrel came up and began to nuzzle Hawk and he started to giggle since it tickled him.

"Haha stop haha it hahaha." Hawk begged.

"Nows that you calmed downs I'ss well." Kestrel answered. She then stopped nuzzling him.

"Robi I done." Cardinal tells me.

"Okay give me the drawing so I can set it up to dry." I hold out an talon for the paper and Cardinal gives me the paper.

So I set it out of the way on one of our shelfs.

Albatros called the dragonets for a few more active games.

"Alright how about we play some tag. Hmm Kestrel your it first." Albatros decides.

"Oki." Kestrel replies. Then runs at the other Dragonets.

"They've got to know how to avoid a dragon chasing after them not with speed but with wits." Albatros said.

"yeah they really do need to."

They could use there size to there advantage to be able to jump into small spaces where Tidestream's can't follow them.

Like Swiftclaws us Featherscales can fit into smaller spaces since we can crouch down and slip into small spaces by basically shrinking ourselves.
