Creatures in Control
Edgar exhaled, temporarily forgetting how to breathe. The body in his arms shook, and he looked down to see Benji lying down, completely fine. Surprisingly, Edgar could also say the same for himself.
As he pushed the debris off his back, he tried to get Benji off the floor and managed to carry him as he lifted himself off the ground. He almost choked on the deep breath he had been taking when he saw the damage on the ship. The ceiling, hallway, and one side of the ship had been blown open. A flock of birds circled above them, visible through the large hole in the ceiling as water splashed into the torn room from the sea.
Silas stood in the middle of the room, staring out into the water. His curly hair ruffled in the cold sea air along with the oddly large T-shirt he wore. He looked fine. Not a burn mark on him. Edgar wished he could say so about his clothes, though. They were torched all the way to his shorts that were once pants.
"Silas?"
A chill ran up Edgar's spine at the sound of Ava's groggy voice. She appeared from the other hallway that wasn't affected by the blast and she stared at her brother with wide eyes.
"Silas? Oh, my God. What happened?" Ava asked as she surveyed the area before entering.
She glanced at Edgar, her brows rising to create a scowl and all Edgar could do was shrug. What was she doing awake?
As Ava approached Silas from behind, Edgar shielded himself and Benji just in case another explosion came about. The back of his t-shirt was already burned off so he pulled what was left and used the piece of cloth to cover Benji's upper body.
Someone coughed loudly, and Edgar turned to see Wyatt with his hand to his mouth and a blue bucket of water. After looking at the damage in shock, his widened grey eyes fell on Edgar then Benji.
Edgar had been suspicious of Wyatt's feelings after Benji had passed out because of his Fang. The way the man had ran would put any racer in the dust. Now, he was doing the same thing. Wyatt hastily dropped the pail and jumped over the wooden debris to get to them.
He took Benji in his arms, surprising Edgar with how gently he held him then said to him, "What's going on? What happened? I told you to scream."
"Kind of slipped my mind after the blast," he said then tilted his head over to look at Ava and Silas.
Ava had turned Silas to look at her, but the curly haired boy just stared vacantly. She called his name as she tapped his cheeks continuously. "Hey, Silas. Come back to me."
"How are you okay right now?" Wyatt asked, distracting Edgar and making him glance away from the siblings to answer him.
"I've got a bloodboar. Remember?"
He didn't wait for the man to answer before he turned back just when Silas blinked and took in a large deep breath. Ava smiled gladly and cupped her brother's face.
"Are you okay, Silas? Can you hear me?"
Silas only managed a nod before Ava pulled him into a tight hug, cuddling him as if he had died and come back.
"Oh thank God." Ava pulled away and smiled at him.
Exhaling in relief, Edgar stood up from behind the debris, wanting to go give Silas a hug. At least, have the boy he had been watching in his arms again, but then he felt it.
The moment the boy slipped his arms around his sister, Edgar knew it wasn't Silas. The aura around him was grey and mischievous. Silas wasn't mischievous.
Reina and Xavier suddenly appeared in the middle of the room, but Edgar didn't let that distract him as he tore out of his hiding place and ran for Silas. He pulled him off Ava, ignoring her sudden outburst and choked the monster who had stolen Silas' body against the gray wall.
"What are you doing?" Ava yelled, but Edgar didn't let go of Silas as he stared into his brown eyes.
"It's not Silas."
"What the hell?"
"How do you know, Edgar?" Xavier asked from behind him.
Silas only stared at him with wide eyes that looked familiar but weren't his. He didn't even try to shove his hands away. If this wasn't Silas, where was he?
"Can't you feel it?" Edgar looked away angrily. "This isn't Silas. I can sense who's in here."
"Reina?" Ava asked, sending another shiver down Edger's spine at just the sound of her voice.
Could it have been the same situation? Was it just her beast back there? But Ava had control over her runes. If she didn't, at least Reina would have felt something. Looking back at Silas as he stared emptily at him, he wondered if the boy he liked was still in there.
"Let go of him, Edgar." Reina said as she came to stand beside him.
Edgar's eyes narrowed when he glanced at her. "You don't mean that."
"Actually, I d-
"Edgar, watch out!"
The shirtless boy didn't have the time to register what Ava had said before something sharp pierced his arm, and he released Silas to grip it. Two arrow-like objects penetrated his wrist, sending a surge of pain through him and he managed to scream before the monster kicked him on his side, and sent him flying across the room.
Edgar took in sharp breaths as he tried to steady his vision. His body ached all over, especially his sore side, right arm and back where he had hit the wall hard. Taking a sharp breath, Edgar winced as he tried to lean up against the wall, cradling his arm, his heart racing at the sight of blood.
When he realised he couldn't move without putting weight on his injured arm, he stopped and contemplated how he was going to get the arrow like objects out without hurting himself. Staring at it, he noticed the object had his blood over it, and two ends have been broken off. Now if he didn't get it out the right way, pieces of the object would be left inside his body. And that would hurt like a bitch.
A large crash rang in the room, and the ship shuddered, causing some debris to fall on Edgar. He cursed as he tried to sit up straight so he could get to his feet. How Silas had been able to kick him so effectively was a shock to him. If Silas could hit him so easily, did that mean he had a beast stronger than the Bloodboar?
"What are you staring off at? Do you want help or are you fine?" Xavier seemed to appear beside him, but the boy was looking at the stabbed wrist Edgar was cradling, instead of Edgar himself.
He nodded numbly and Xavier sighed before taking his arm. "So, it's going to hurt. And like, a lot."
Edgar only bit his lip and tried his best to relax his arm regardless of the pain. "On three," Xavier said as he gripped one end of the object and without even counting, pushed it out so the broken part didn't have to pass through his wrist.
Edgar screamed in pain then covered his mouth when Xavier started working on the other object. Once they were both gone, Xavier quickly took off his jacket to tear a piece of his sleeve so he could use it to wrap around the wound.
Edgar fell to his knees and cradled the hand to his body, hoping somehow it would ease the pain.
"Take a deep breath, and it will be all gone," Xavier said, patting his back.
As he followed Xavier's advice, he noticed his breathing becoming calmer and with every tap from Xavier, the ache around his back and side eased up. He stayed motionless as he clutched the bloody wrist, expecting the mind numbing pain he had previously felt, but it was just sore.
He looked up at Xavier and stared at him with cow eyes. The boy was still decked in his suit, though his hair was all over the place and his brows were knitted in a frown. Xavier noticed Edgar's stare and rose a brow, "Are you okay now?"
"Did I heal myself? Can I even do that?"
"Yes, you can. Other than your body hardening as a shield, you can heal yourself if something like this happens. You just need to take a deep breath and let your beast's power flow," Xavier answered, helping him up at the same time. "Though, depending on the type of harm you get yourself into, your power outage might decrease. If you get a bigger wound than what you just got, don't expect to pull off all the abilities the bloodboar gives you."
"I wish I knew what they even were." Edgar let the piece of cloth fall, and he saw his wrist good as new except the four scars that looped around it.
"You'll find out in time," Xavier adjusted his jacket then turned away from him, heading toward the hallway that led up the stairs to the deck.
"Where's Silas?"
"I'm going to him right now."
Just as Edgar and Xavier, reached the deck, they spotted Ava and Silas in a serious physical fight, something Edgar never thought he would see. How Edgar was sure it wasn't Silas again was the way he fought. Silas battled with fists and kept his feet on the ground, however, the beast in Silas' body was jumping off walls, giving him a good angle to attack and when he did, he tended to kick Ava.
Watching them from the stairs to Wyatt's office, was Wyatt and Reina. Wyatt leaned against the railing, looking undisturbed by the fight while Reina stared intensely at both Silas and Ava. She tried to speak to Silas, but the monster in him only laughed then fell back a few steps away from Ava and Reina, having his back to Edgar.
"Why are you doing this?" Reina marched in front of Ava. "You do not have to cause any more damage."
"But I lived in the shambles. I love when my new home reminds me of where I came from. Besides, it's not complete without a body." Silas snickered and turned so he had his side to both Reina and Edgar.
When Silas glanced at him, anger instantly seeped down his body, filling his very breath with flames when he saw the disgusting yellow eyes.
"Don't be angry, boy. He really does care for you. What he really wants to get rid of, however..." His eyes trailed back to Ava and narrowed.
Ava looked taken aback, and she tried to step forward, but Reina pushed her behind her just when Silas attacked again. Luckily this time, before Edgar or Ava could do anything, Reina caught Silas around the neck but not physically. Silas froze, clawing at his throat as if something was preventing him from moving or breathing.
Reina had outstretched her hand, almost as if she was gripping Silas's throat, and tightened it, making the curly haired boy groaned. Edgar noticed the claw mark on Silas' neck was getting deeper as he approached him slowly from behind.
"Reina, you have to do something fast or that Madara will hurt Silas if it cuts him any deeper," Xavier warned from where he had been standing.
"I know, but it's hard to see anything in there. I can't find him," she replied, her face scrunching up as if in pain.
Coughing, the beast managed to laugh hysterically. "I took an extra precaution."
Reina only responded by tightening her fist again, and the beast snarled, rabidly. It dug deeper into Silas skin, hissing and choking on its breath.
"Oh my god Reina, please find Silas." Ava stared at her brother with glassy eyes as she placed a hand on Reina's shoulder.
A trail of blood flowed down Reina's nose, and she shouted, startling everyone, "Turn on your light Silas!"
Immediately, the beast stopped moving. It tilted Silas head up, and it reminded Edgar of when Silas had released that blast. He expected the worst, staying in his spot and collecting his strength for any beast that was to come.
Instead, Silas took a deep breath. The real Silas.
Reina quickly released him, her body dropping to the floor and Ava quickly caught her before her head could bang against the hard wood. Silas also fell, and Edgar quickly ran to him, sighing in relief when Silas fell on him. His neck was bruised, but there were the same bright red marks on his legs and arms for ever hit Ava had given him.
Edgar helped him to the floor so he didn't have to stand and laid him across his lap. Silas' breathing steadied, and he managed to look up at Edgar. He opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out, and it made Edgar frown. That beast hadn't taken his voice, had it?
"Silas... Silas, are you okay?" He asked, concern laced his tone.
Silas started for a nod but shook his head and trailed his eyes to Edgar's chest. Edgar quickly sensed the curly haired boy's body temperature increase and he cupped Silas' face. "Are you sure you are alright?"
Silas' warm brown eyes stared back into his as he swallowed. Taking another deep breath, he looked away from Edgar. "I'm fine. I just hurt a lot right now." He swallowed again before he met Edgar's eyes. "What did I do?"
"A lot of stuff."
"Not just a lot of stuff," Wyatt added as he casually walked down the stairs, his shoulder length hair waving in the breeze. "You wrecked my ship, and that's going to cost you."
Ava lifted Reina into her arms and stood up. She glanced at the woman then at Silas and said, "I'm going to tend to Reina. If I have time, I'll come check up on you." Then her eyes shifted to Edgar, "Take care of him. Luckily, our room didn't get damaged by the fire or fight."
"However, your room did." Wyatt pointed at them as Ava carried Reina away. "So you both will have to freeze here before I get it all nice and pretty with Xavier's help. Xavier, do not run." The man snickered as if getting his brother to help was comical.
Xavier only adjusted his jacket before turning towards the south wing of the ship where the blast had occurred. Wyatt smiled happily then looked back at Edgar and Silas, causing his happy moment to be momentary.
He came closer to them and squatted. "After he's all healed up," Wyatt said to Edgar, "get him to my office, and I will give him his punishment."
"But it wasn't his fault."
Wyatt licked his lips, shaking his head at Edgar as if the boy didn't know what he was saying. "I know it wasn't. However, it's still my ship, and I have to use a lot of magic to put it back together. Ask anyone when you get on land how Captains feel about their ships, and they will tell you, 'No Captain lets anyone fuck with his ship except himself.'"
"You son of a-"
Wyatt cut him off by standing up and walking away as if their discussion was over. Edgar was not having it. He started to stand when Silas pulled on his pants as he tried to sit up.
"No, don't go after him. It's fine, Edgar." He managed with a cracked voice, sounding a bit deeper than his usual tone
Edgar frowned at that but still pulled the slim boy into his arms. Watching a beast take over Silas was indeed the scariest thing he had ever seen.
"I'm so glad you are okay."
