twenty-two

Hyunjae had to use every bit of his patience to be able to follow the traffic laws as he drove home. He usually didn't even drive that often, but today was an exception.

Every red light felt like an eternity. Traffic was torturous. Parking was horrendous.

But finally, he was in front of his apartment building.

Waiting for the elevator was yet another torture, but he figured that using it would be faster. Even if he ran up the stairs two at a time, the elevator would probably beat him. And so he waited. He paced back and forth in the lobby. It felt like forever, and it was almost worse when he was inside the elevator. Almost. Inside, there was less room to pace. And it was so painfully slow. But at least he was getting closer. Every second led him closer to her.

He didn't even know why he was so worried. There was a dark feeling consuming his chest. Something just felt wrong.

When he opened the door to his apartment, he understood why.

"Yerin!" he shouted, running over to her unconscious form. He felt her forehead, and she still had a slight fever. She was obviously breathing, but she wasn't conscious.

He scooped her up into his arms, running out of the apartment. He didn't bother to lock the door behind them. That would take too long.

Right now, she was the only priority.
