The sound of glass shattering, with a crunch, crunch, crunch echoing throughout the house.
"Find him, he has to be somewhere here." More crunching of footsteps on broken glass.
Theres at least two people, three if i count footsteps. They arent trying to hide their tracks.
Lucky me.
I lean out, my gun cocked. Someone sees my reflection, just as planned.
I knew theyd come after me eventually, so i prepared.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The mirror shatters, as the one who fired the gun falls, with me getting a good look at the group.
Five. Perfect.
But lets rewind abit, shall we? This isnt the beginning of our story.
A young man, the age of 18 enters a school made to make people into heroes.
"So this is it... the legendary Rothma Academy..." he looks up to see the magnitude of the school.
"Jesus thats tall... but now comes the hard part, actually getting in..."
He sighed, walking into the school doors... but lets take in the story from his perspective.
"This place is like a castle...." I looked down at my paper map of the school. "Hey you guys... what do you think of this?" Eqx popped up. "I think to go to the left-"
"i think we should go right!" "Zeke, be nice." Ann popped up next to the other two. "Hmm.... i'm gonna go with Eqx on this one..."
"Nala? Reyd? What are youre guys thought on this?" Nala popped up. "I-i'm going with Zeke on this one-"
"You always go with Zeke."
"I- thats not the point!"
Reyd popped up. "Hmm.... im going with Eqx, sorry." "Then its settled. We're going left."
"...we're lost arent we?"
"....yeah. definitely-" a girl popped up, her already wearing one of the uniforms. "Heya! You lost?"
"U-uh yeah... looking for the exam..." "oh! Its just over there to the left!" She pointed at the door. "Oh... thanks...." the five were arguing amongst themselves, as she saw them. "Whatre you five arguing about?"
Wait... she can see them?!
"H-how can you see them?"
"W-well theyre right there, silly! Of course i can see them!"
"Th-thats weird... normally only i can see them..." her never faultering smile was still plastered on her face, as her lavender esque blue eyes shone slightly. "Well, our worlds full of abilities, whats to say mine isnt true-sight?"
I nodded."yeah, youre right... you gonna be watching the exam?"
"Yup! You should get going!" I nodded, walking into the door, opening it, as there was only a dark hallway. "Good luck!" I nodded, and began walking.
"Nala, a little help?" She nodded, all the others vanishing, her bright pink aura surrounding me as i sprinted down the hallway at a very rapid pace, my feet tap tap tapping across the ground, the roar of a crowd getting louder.
There! I see the entrance!
I slowed down to my normal pace. "Thanks nala." She nodded, before dissapearing. I grabbed my sword offof my back, checking its magazine and telescpoing mechanism along with the barrel.
"Fully loaded... sweet." There were several other people in the colliseum.
Wait. Colliseum!?
"ALRIGHTY FOLKS IT IS TIME FORTHE ENTRANCE EXAM! EACH EXAMINEE WILL BE PROPELLED INTO OUR FOREST FOR SEVEN DAYS! ONCE ITS OVER, THEY HAVE TO ESCAPE! WHO WILL MAKE IT OUT OF OUR LOST WOODS!? LETS FIND OUT!!" The Anouncer over the intercom shouted, his voice booming over the whole school. We each stood on a stone plate, it dropping us down, down, down into a machine, which then catapulted us through the air.
WAIT- WE DONT HAVE PARACHUTES!
I was thrown into the air.
Falling.
Falling.
F a l l i n g .
Remember what father taught you!
It was less than a second, maybe half a second, but it changed everything.
A twist of the legs and upper body in different directions.
A circular spinning sword swing, as i gained more velocity.
"Form nine: setting suns ember!" A large downwards circular spin, roasting the tree that wouldve killed me with its branches.
I hit the ground with a hard thump.
"Ouch... still better than the first time...." I got up, checking my arcana level.
"80%.... i'll be fine..."i then started scavenging for food and firestarting materials.
"You sure you'll be okay?" There was a gentle pink glow behind me. "Yeah, i'll be fine nala. Thanks for the concern." She then restored my arcana. "Thanks." She smiled, before dissapearing as Eqx appeared, a bright orange glow behind me.
"Hey. I'll keep them away when you sleep, so get to bed soon." I nodded, watching the sun set before falling asleep.
I woke up with a start. "Hey Eqx we need to go now!" He nodded, a large shockwave blasting them backwards as we ran, me gathering my bearings. "Thanks.... Nala, need a speedboost!" She appeared, launching me forwards in a burst of speed.
I landed, sliding to a halt, turning over and landing on my stomach, my weapon drawn as i aimed. "Theres three of them, and a few more coming... we should just hide."
"Okay.... so we can hide from them... you sure it will work Zach?" He nodded, his green glow behind me. "....I'll let you take control for this one." His aura wrapped around me, as he took control of my body, running to the trees, jumping up into them, covering himself in their scent.
The small stampede charged through, their footsteps and roars echoing, slowly fading as they ran into the distance.
I sighed, as he junped back down, giving me back control. "Thanks, Zach."
And so, this was the beginning of a legendary hero's story, one of which would resonate for eons across the cosmos.
