This was more of an English assignment. A persuasive essay.
And I chose to do mine on abortion.
Now I don't want to seem offensive to anyone. So if you're for abortion, I wouldn't read.

Why Life Is So Important

How would you live with yourself after taking away the life of another? I know I wouldn't be able to cope with that burden. Now I'm not talking about murder in the sense of stabbing someone relentlessly in a dark alley. I'm referring to talking the life of someone who has yet to walk the earth. The cause of murder being a simple pill, or surgical tools found in just about any hospital if not all. Abortion; the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. The expulsion of a fetus from the uterus by "natural causes" before it is able to survive independently. The google definition of the legal procedure. However, just because it's legal, it doesn't make it anymore right in my eyes.

No matter what the situation, abortion isn't the way to go if you feel like you aren't ready for parenthood or prepared to take care of a child. You're still taking away the life of someone, even if they haven't been brought to the earth just yet. Before this speech, I only had a simple, yet general idea of what that word and form of surgery were. But I've done the research to dive deeper into the meaning and gain a further understanding of the particular topic.

Unless you have a truly justifiable reason, I feel the need to explain why you shouldn't go through with the procedure.

In other words, why I feel so strongly against abortion and why it shouldn't be done.

Going through with an abortion also means going through the process of taking away potential life. Just because they can't think or do anything for themselves, it doesn't make them any less human or mean they don't matter as a person. I dislike how people just brush off that thought completely. The unborn child has just as much rights as we do.

According to 'Abortion, Termination of Pregnancy' written by Dr. Mary Harding, abortions are performed up to the 24th week of a pregnancy. Which is approximately 5 months out of the 9. But did you know that a baby's heart starts to beat at 6 weeks? And that you can even see and hear it through an ultrasound during the 8th week? Crazy, right? In about 2 months he or she already has a beating heart. And yet... that hardly seems to matter to some people.

If you or anyone ever considers termination, it's probably for the following reasons that just about anyone can come up with from the top of their head. You don't feel ready to be a parent and are scared, you want to achieve a few goals or finish school before having a baby, or you just don't want to be a parent. Well, not to be offensive, but that isn't the child's fault or problem. There are measures created so that this issue may be avoided. If you ignore or don't bother using protection, you're at fault. But that doesn't mean the child has to suffer because you were careless or just fooling around.

Normally abortions are said to be very safe and hardly ever cause any issues or problems of any kind. However, as stated in 'Abortion – Risks' on the nhs website, there are quite a few issues that may occur, even if said to be safe with low probability of risk.

Such health risks include: infection in the womb, said to happen in 1 out of 10 pregnancies. But can easily be dealt with the help of antibiotics. Some of the pregnancy remaining, further surgery needed if that were to occur. And this is a 1 out of 20 occurrence. 1 out of 100 operations, the pregnancy still continues. Those are just 3 out of the list of possible risks. I don't know about you, but if for whatever the reason I went down that road, these alone would have me rethink things.

Now when I used to think about the possible number of abortions in a year, I used to think it was just a couple of hundreds. Boy was I ever wrong and appalled by the numbers. Just in Quebec, in the year 2007, 27697 abortions were listed. And in 2015 the numbers decreased by 3504, resulting in 24193 abortions. I don't even want to calculate the total of abortions, of lives taken away, between those 8 years alone. And that's just in Quebec.

Now I'm going to level with you. If the young girl or woman's body is unable to withstand the pregnancy and having the child will cause severe health issues or will kill either or both the mother and the child to die, or just because the girl is too young. Then yes, that is when I would reconsider the thought. But don't wait to have it done, I'd strongly suggest the earliest time as possible.

I would go over said reason, and explain how later dated abortions are proceeded, but given the time, I wouldn't want to scare anyone or be the cause of anyone losing their breakfast, and/or lunch.

Before you ever even think about going through an abortion, think to yourself for a moment 'that could have been me', and think about how horrible it would feel if your parents thought of taking away your life before it ever begun.

Because unlike myself, I doubt there are many who were as lucky as I was. Yes, you heard me well and clear. I wasn't planned to walk the earth, and was minutes away from being wiped from existence. But at the very last moment, right after her name was called, my mother left the hospital, and went home. That's why I stand here before you today. However, like I said, many others weren't as lucky as I. They didn't have a little Jiminy Cricket on their shoulder or had a voice ringing in the back of their mind saying 'don't do it'.

Just think if ever you were in that position 10-15 years from now, and ever thought about going through with the abortion. Imagine looking down at that little boy or girl you'd soon be holding in your arms. You'd look down at them and think 'oh god, I was going to get rid of this beautiful child'. Keep that in mind, because your whole life changes when you hold that child in your arms.
