Chapter 59
Even though Adam wanted this taken care of as soon as possible, he also wanted to wait until he got the cast off his ankle. But he had been in constant touch with his attorney, Dustin Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman also thought it was a good idea to wait a week or two. The extra time would give him the opportunity to court order the phone history from Chris's phone, bank statements of Chris's purchases since returning to Minnesota and phone recordings from the bank of the cancellation of Adam's card. He also advised Adam not to contact his brother about the situation. This would allow Chris to think that his brother was not going to fight his actions and possibly let his guard down. From what he had learned from Adam, Chris, to him, didn't seem to give a lot of thought about any of his actions.
"You know, until we get all this straightened out, I still have the insurance money I got after the car wreck." Adam says as he leans back into his husband's arms as they cuddle on the couch.
"But you were saving that for a car." Tim replies.
"Yeah, I know. But once we get my inheritance all situated, we'll be set." Adam says. "Before you say anything, I know that you don't want to live off the inheritance. But, we know that it's there if we need it. Like when Bailey gets older, she'll need a room of her own. We could really use a laundry room. I hate that Kelsey has to do our laundry." He chuckles softly.
"We are struggling pretty bad right now." Tim nods. Honestly? He was tired of worrying about how they were going to buy groceries and pay the bills. Having a generator helped tremendously. But it took a lot of gas to run it constantly. Worrying was also affecting his health. He stayed exhausted most of the time. Not being able to sleep at night for lying awake and worrying about their money situation.
"We don't have to be, Sweetheart." Adam says softly as he raises up to look into his husband's tired brown eyes. "I have the money to put your worries to rest. You don't think I feel you tossing and turning at night? We don't have to live like rich people even though we will be. You can still go do the things that you love to do like trapping and hunting gators. We can still live like Cajuns only without the worry of if we're going to have the money to buy groceries."
"That would be nice." Tim says with a tired smile.
"Not to mention, your brother is working his ass off trying to support his girlfriend and his daughter. When actually, he doesn't have to." Adam says, shaking his head.
"Oh, so now you're using my little brother as a weapon against me." Tim says with a smirk.
"If it works then why not." Adam smiles.
"You're a dangerous man, Adam Foust." Tim says with a yawn as he lays his head back on the back of the couch and closes his eyes.
"So. Do I win?" Adam asks with a smile.
Tim smiles as he nods slightly and gives his lover a thumbs up.
"You rest, Sweetie. I need to go run an errand." Adam says as he kisses Tim on the cheek.
Tim nods as he starts to lay down on the couch. "The keys are in the truck. Please be careful. Take Satchmo." He mumbles as he starts to slip off to sleep.
"I'll get Sami to drive me. You rest." Adam says as he gets his crutches and stands from the couch. Apparently, his husband was too tired to remember that his truck was a stick shift and Adam's foot was still in a cast.
Adam walks out on the front porch to find Sami sitting in the rocker, reading.
"Sami? You busy?" Adam asks.
"Extremely." She says with a touch of sarcasm as she looks over her sunglasses at the blonde.
"Good. I need you to drive me somewhere." Adam chuckles as he heads back inside.
He goes into the bedroom and opens the drawer of the nightstand and pulls out the envelope consisting of the check from the insurance company. It might not sound like much but it can go a long way living on the bayou. He slips the check into his wallet, writes down all of the information that he would need, goes and kisses his sleeping husband then heads back outside to join Sami who was already waiting in her car.
"Okay, so where did you need to go so urgently that you had to interrupt my busy day?" Sami smiles.
"I need to go to Thibideau to open a checking account at the bank." Adam answers as he gets into the car. (Thibideau is the closest town to Teche that has a bank.)
"But you haven't gone to court yet to get your money. News flash, Blondie, you need money to open an account." Sami says as she backs out of the driveway.
"I have the insurance check from the car wreck." Adam replies.
"What? Does Beau know that you're doing this?" Sami asks as she glances around at Adam.
"Yep, well, kinda. Bless his heart. He's just too tired to fight about it any more." Adam says sadly as he looks out the side window. "Actually, I just told him that I needed to run an errand. I didn't tell him where I was going."
"Is he alright? He's lost quite a bit of weight." Sami says.
"It's from all the worrying that he's been doing. He's not been getting any sleep. He's worrying himself sick. But that's about to stop." Adam replies.
"I'm just glad that he finally gave in. He's always been so hard-headed." Sami says with a giggle.
"That's true. He's definitely hard-headed." Adam laughs.
"But. You'll never find a more sweeter or kinder person." Sami comments.
"He took me and Chris in. Even gave up his own room to us." Adam says with a nod.
"And now, even as hard as he's having it financially, he's letting me live there." Sami adds.
"Well, the financial problems just came to an end." Adam says, giving Sami a smile.
Sami pulls into the parking lot of The Heritage Bank of Thibideau. She sits in the waiting area as Adam walks up to the bank window and begins the process of opening an account.
Within thirty minutes, they were heading back to Teche.
"They'll be mailing us our bank cards and checks. We should get the cards in about a week and the checks in about three weeks." Adam says as he looks over the papers. "They gave me some temporary checks. Tim or Adam Foust. Ain't that cool." He smiles proudly as he shows Sami the checks.
"Cool." Sami giggles.

Adam walks into the house and sees Tim still sleeping. As much as he hated to, he knew he needed to wake him or he wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.
"Hey, you." Adam says softly as he brushes the hair back from his husband's face.
"Hmmm?" Tim answers but doesn't open his eyes.
"Wake up, Baby. I have something to show you." Adam smiles sweetly down at his lover.
"What?" Tim asks in a groggy voice as he tries to open his eyes.
"I want to show you something." Adam says as he reaches over for Tim's glasses that were laying on the coffee table.
"Whatcha got." Tim asks as he raises up and slips on his glasses.
Adam smiles as he hands the papers to Tim to read.
Tim begins to look over the papers, stopping every now and then to glance around at his husband.
"You opened a checking account?" Tim asks as he continues to read over the papers.
"Uh huh." Adam answers and nods.
Tim slowly raises his head to look at the blonde. His mouth agape.
Adam smiles and nods. Tim had never seen the insurance check nor had he ever asks the amount.
"Are you serious?" Tim asks as a smile begins to grow. "Am I reading this right? Please, don't tell me that's a misprint. $17, 000? What the f*ck?!"
"It's no misprint. That's the check I got from the insurance." Adam chuckles at the expression on his husband's face. Shock? Relief? Excitement? Anxiety? A combination of the four?
"$17, 000!!!" Tim says as he lays his hand on his chest. "I think I'm having a f*cking heart attack."
