Chapter 39
Tim slips on his rubber knee boots as Adam goes to answer the knock on the door. He wasn't in the best of moods. No, he and Tim had not been fighting.
He was just overly worried about his husband. Tim was leaving with Bob to refresh his memory about hunting gators. Gator hunting was a very dangerous business. And Tim didn't have the best track record in avoiding danger. It seemed to follow him.
Adam jerks the door open and stares up at the much taller bearded man.
"Is your old man ready?" Bob asks.
"Let me tell you something, Bayou Bob." Adam says through gritted teeth. "If you allow him to get hurt in any way, there will be nowhere for you to hide. Understand?" Adam asks with a raised brow.
"Okay? I'm honestly scared." Bob says as he looks down at the blue-eyed blond.
"You probably need to be, cause I'm pretty sure he means it." Tim chuckles as he walks up beside his husband. He leans in and kisses Adam on the cheek as he pats him on the butt. "Don't worry your pretty head, Angel Face. I've done this before. I'll be fine."
"Can you at least tell me what all goes on during hunting gators, please?" Adam asks with a worried look.
"Well, I baited the hooks yesterday. I have them tied to branches or fallen trees in the swamp. One person pulls in the rope, hoping there's a gator on the other end. The other person waits with a gun. The person pulling the gator in tries to get the gator's head up so the other person can shoot it. Simple." Bob says with a smile.
"Don't sound too simple to me." Adam says and then let's go of a sigh. "Sorry if I seem a little over-protective. I've seen him hurt more times than I care to count."
"I know." Bob nods. "But I promise I'll bring him home breathing and all in one piece."
"You better." Adam says with a smirk. He turns his attention to his husband, kissing him softly. "Good luck."
He watches as the two Cajuns get into Bob's old truck. He smiles and waves as Tim throws him a kiss.
"You know he's a big boy, right?" Austin says from the couch.
"Even big boys sometimes need watching after." Adam says as he watches the truck drive away.
"Tim used to hunt gators, Adam. He was very good at it. The only injury I ever saw was blisters or rope burns on his hands." Austin says.
"It takes two people, right? I know Tim doesn't have many friends so who went with him?" Adam asks as he sat down on the other side of the couch.
"You ain't going to believe it." Austin laughs as he shakes his head.
"Who?" Adam asks with a smile.
"Sometimes Jenika went and other times Sami went." Austin chuckles. "They would do the shooting while Tim pulled in their catch."
"Wow, that is hard to believe." Adam smiles. "Olena? You never went?"
"No." Olena laughs shaking her head. "I may fish and I've been known to go trapping or hunting with the guys but hunting gators is not my thing."
"What kind of hunting do y'all do?" Adam asks.
"Deer, turkey even rabbit and squirrel." Austin answers. "Anything to put food on the table. You have to remember Tim and I grew up poor. We couldn't afford many groceries. Hunting kept us from starving."
"I used to go hunting with my dad when I was younger." Adam smiles at the memory. "He was so proud of me when I killed my first buck."
"You're welcome to go with us." Austin says with a smile.
"I'd love to." Adam says with a huge smile. "But do you think Tim would mind me tagging along?"
"Are you kidding? He would love having you there with him." Austin says.
"I have to get hunting licenses. All my hunting stuff is in storage at Rob's." Adam says with a smile. He couldn't wait to spend quality time with Tim and the others doing things that they loved to do. He was tired of being the city slicker. He wanted to become a full Cajun.

"Shouldn't they be coming home soon?" Adam asks as he, Austin and Olena sat on the front porch. Austin had his leg propped up as he held Bailey in his arms.
"I'm sure they'll be in soon. Bob is probably showing Tim some places where he can run lines." Austin says as he continues to make faces at his daughter.
A few minutes later, Bob pulls into the driveway pulling his boat behind the truck. The boat was loaded with gators.
Tim gets out of the truck and smiles as he sees Adam running toward him.
"I'M ALIVE!" He yells, raising his arms into the air.
"Oh, shut up." Adam laughs as he jumps into his husband's arms.
Austin hands Bailey over to Olena and grabs his crutches.
"Holy cow." Austin says as he walks up to the boat to look at their catch.
"Yep, we had a very good day." Bob smiles and nods as he leans on the boat.
"So, how did my 'old man' do?" Adam chuckles.
"Your old man did an awesome job." Bob nods.
"After catching the first one, it was like old times. It was like I never stopped." Tim says as he and Adam lean on the boat.
"So what now?" Adam asks as he reaches into the boat and touches one of the dead gators. He had never seen one this close before.
"We carry them to the weigh-in station beside the trading post. They unload them, measure their length and give us our money. The price changes every day, just like the stock market. Could be anywhere from $20 a foot to $40." Bob says.
They decided to carry the gators into town the next morning. Bob would take them and store them in a cooling shed that he had built.
After Bob left, Tim went to take a shower. They decided to go have dinner at Hattie's. Once arriving, they found Chance, Jenika and Chris having dinner. They invited them to sit at their table.
"Chance, have you heard from Rob?" Tim asks as he takes a sip of his beer.
"Yeah, he called me to let me know they got home this afternoon. His sister came back with them." Chance answers.
"Really? That's awesome." Tim smiles.
"Did you know that Rob's sister used to help Tim catch gators?" Adam says with a slight smirk.
"Really?" Chance replies as the picture of the bearded lady with glasses once again appeared in his mind.
Tim hangs his head and smiles as he reaches under the table and rubs his husband's leg as if to say, 'Good job, Babe'.
"She was very good at it too." Jenika says with a smile. She knew of the secret they were keeping from the doctor and joined in to add fuel to the fire.
"I can imagine." Chance mumbles.
"Maybe, uh, maybe we can introduce you two. No telling what might happen." Tim says with a smirk on his face as he pushes away his empty plate.
"Don't do me any favors, Tim." Chance chuckles as he finishes his beer.
"Oh, come on. She's a really sweet person." Austin adds.
"I'm sure she is. Rob's a sweet person too but that doesn't mean I'd date him." Chance laughs.
"We'll see." Tim mumbles under his breath as he stands from the table. "Y'all ready to go?"
They pay their bill and walk out to their vehicles.
"So what now? It's still pretty early." Austin says. "Tomorrow's Saturday so no one has to work. Y'all wanna have a bonfire and a few drinks?"
"That sounds fine." Tim nods.
"There's my Bo." A female voice speaks up.
Tim quickly looks around as he recognizes the voice.
"Sam?" Tim says with a smile.
The petite girl squeals as she runs and jumps into his arms.
Chance's jaw drops as he watches Tim swing the beautiful girl around. Surely this was NOT the Sami that they had been talking about. Rob's sister? No way!!
Jenika laughs as she reaches up and closes his mouth.
Sami squeals with excitement again as she runs over and hugs Austin then quickly snatches Bailey from Olena's arms.
"That, my dear doctor friend, is Sami Matarante, Rob's half-sister." Jenika giggles.
