Chapter 7: The Maze of Amazement

Fortrex was heading toward Digginton, Axl's hometown. Lance and Macy stood on the roof of the riding castle.

- Is this where Axl is from? Diggington? It's so... rural.

Macy gasped. - Lance that's not nice!

- What?  I was diplomatic.

- Everyone knows that ,,rural'' to you means destroyed and dirty.

Axl suddenly appears behind Lance and heard the conversation between the two knights.

- What? It's true?

Lance jumped up surprised and replied nervously, that in there is certainly nice.  Fortrex arrived to the town and you all went outside. The townspeople, as soon as they saw Axl started cheering his name. Axl proudly led you, and you followed him.

- Finally some place where you don't hear the crowd shouting Lance's name. - You whispered to Aaron.

Aaron stifled a laugh and poked you with his elbow. Knights and Robin went to an inn called "Digging Inn" and Axl knocked on the door. After a while, the door was opened to you by a woman. When she realized who was standing on the other side she smiled cheerfully.

- AXL!!! - the woman hugged Axl tightly and lifted him slightly off the ground.

- Hello mom.

Axl's mom looked at you and gasped.

- Why didn't you warn, that the knights were coming! Such a mess here, wait a moment! - she shouted to you and ran into the premises.

You all looked confused and began to hear sounds of cleaning from inside the inn. You all looked confusedly at Axl, who only shrugged in response. After a while, Axl's mother returned and invited you inside. After trying to make the place pretty, she decided to introduce you to the rest of the family; Papa Axl and Axlina.

Axlina looked at Robin with infatuated eyes, and he only smiled awkwardly.

You quietly snorted a laugh and looked at the boy with a communicative smile, and he poked your leg.

- Mom, Dad, Axlina. These are my friends. Nexo Knights; Clay, Lance, Aaron, (Y/N), Princess Macy and young Robin.

- And, of course. Sir. Axl; Knight of the Realm, but you know him after all. - Clay said and winked at the family.

Axl's mother smiled at him and poked her son hard. - Axl, attention! Sir. Moorington introduces you.

Papa Axl took from his son some kind of bowl of soup and put it on the table.

- Knights of the Realm. Here is our best porcupine stew, just ignore the needles. - Papa Axl smiled.

Suddenly Merlok appeared on the Fortrex screen and summoned you to Fortrex to look for the evil book. The Book of Deception.

- The book is somewhere in the hills, but the signal of its location is changing. It's as if the book doesn't want us to know where it really is. - informed Ava.

- Is it really that ominous, or is it just my imagination. - said Lance.

You left Fortrex and began to drive through winding mountain roads, until you stopped in front of the entrance to a large maze. You jumped out of the vehicles and went inside. As you entered the door closed.

- Ava, do you know where we are? - Macy asked through the communicator.

- No, but it looks like some kind of maze. I'll turn on the simulation and do some mapping, which will allow you to sit through all the corridors and turns. - Ava said.

- No time, Jestro is somewhere nearby. - replied Clay and started walking through the maze.

For a long moment you walked through the maze in deafening silence. You groaned tired of the silence.

- Come on, we won't be silent so long. It's... too suspicious for my taste. The whole maze is empty and quiet. No traps, no obstacles or anything. - you said.

- You're right. Guys, be ready for anything. This maze reminds me of some kind of tunnel of deception, we don't know what can....! - began Macy, when she was suddenly trapped by a rotating stone wall.

You all gasped in fright and ran to help her.  You released her from the grip of the wall.

- And I didn't say it was too quiet here. Still missing here, some indestructible guards and it will be just like in this Hotel Oblivion!

- Where? - Lance asked.

- Such a building on Knightflix series. You won't understand. - Aaron said.

Knights continued marching through the maze, when you heard a thump and Aaron flashed quickly past you. You sighed slightly in shock and looked at him irritated. After five minutes, Aaron stopped you.

- It doesn't make sense, We're wandering around in circles! Here I hit the wall with my hover shield.

Axl took out a guitar and began to play it.

- Hm, my guitar. Here you should be able to hear echo, but the sound doesn't bounce off the walls like it should.

- Ava, you confirm Axl's supposition, you will help us pass? - Clay said to Ava.

- No, but this maze seems familiar to me. - she replied to you.

You looked directly at the wall where echo should spread. You looked at Axl and he looked at you. You nodded to each other with a smile and walked through the wall. The others followed you in amazement and began to pass through the walls.

- Hotel Oblivion. - You sang quietly.

Finally, you stopped in a room with a large stone with an engraved inscription and two doors behind it. You all gasped in amazement.

- Merlok, could you translate this for us? - You asked.

- Of course, let me take a look. ,, Now you have to choose your path. Choose wisely, or you will lose. - informed the wizard.

- Hmm... any ideas? - You asked the others, turning around and looking at the door.

Axl walked to the first door and you followed him curiously. He opened the door and a beautiful woman came out. The boys sighed and looked at her like enchanted. You snorted and looked at Axl.

- Wrong door. Open the next one. - You said and went to the other one.

- Wait, no!!! - others shouted  behind you, but it was too late.

They pulled out their weapons and a stone, nice-looking ( to you and Axl) monster came out from behind the door and you approached it with a smile.

- Hi, what is your name?- asked Axl.

- My name is Dingo. - she replied in a shy voice.

The others got confused.

- Em... is it a girl? - Aaron asked.

- Yes. Don't be unkind. - You growled at him and looked at the monster with a smile. - Do you know where we can find the Book of Deception?

The monster nodded and pointed to the path behind her. The so-called Zoot, suddenly gasped and drew swords out of nowhere.

- Too late, it's over! - she yelled, when Dingo caught her and scolded her for bad behavior.

- Go and find what you are looking for. - she said to you cheerfully.

- Thanks for your help Dingo! See you around! - You waved her off and went with the others.

- Hey, Axl, (Y/N)? How did you know Zoot was a monster? - Aaron asked.

- Here, nothing is what it seems. - the giant replied.

- Because she is an evil woman. Did you really think, that such a beautiful woman would want to be in this maze, all alone? - You asked, glancing at the three boys.

- Well, you know...

- Never mind. Let's go on. - You cut them off and started walking on.

After more minutes of walking in the maze, the screams of a little girl rang out. Lance gasped.

- Ghosts!!!

- It's not ghosts. It's a little girl. - Clay said and started running after the voice.

- Clay, no! It's a trap! - You shouted after him and started all running after him.

Clay was far ahead of you, making you growl in annoyance.

,, I wish I was there in front of him to stop him from his own stupidity.'' - you thought.

You concentrated and clenched your hands into fists. Suddenly your fists lit up with a blue light and you disappeared in a blue streak. When you opened your eyes, you were in front of Clay and stood in his way.

- Stop!!!

Clay shocked stopped and looked at you amazed.

- How... How did you... - stammered Clay shocked.

Although, you yourself were astonished you answered. - No matter, how I did it! Clay this is another trap. Here nothing is what it seems.

Clay opened his mouth to reply, but was interrupted by Ava's voice.

- Listen, this maze does indeed look familiar. Do you remember that game Whack-man ? This maze is similiar to that one.

Aaron laughed. - I love that game! I know it by heart. Let's go, this way!

The archer began to lead you and you reached a cave, where the Book of Deception stood on a pedestal.

- Ha, this is easy. - said Aaron, but you grabbed his arm and stopped him.

- Stop, think before you run. - You said and looked around, sensing a strange presence around you.

- Yeah, here nothing is what it seems. - agreed Axl and looked at the rocks that were all around the cave.

- Hey... these rocks... - you started.

- They're not rocks! - finished Clay.

You all grabbed your weapons as the stones became stone golems and hurled themselves at you. Axl ran over to get the book and opened it.

- Axl, no! - yelled Clay, avoiding monster's attack.

- We have to find out. - He replied and the book in his hands turned into dust.

A moment later, the entire monster maze disappeared. Everyone looked around confused.

- Wait a minute, then why all this? - Aaron asked.

- This is a trick! He distracted us from the real book. - replied Lance, when you saw Jestro on his fortress waving at you with the book in his hand.

- They're heading to Diggington and have a real Book of Deception. - Clay said.

- Ava, we need Fortrex! - said Macy.

Fortrex quickly picked you up and you drove to Axel's town to stop Jestro. When you drove up there, the townspeople blocked Jestro's way, so he couldn't escape.

You threw yourselves at the monsters and took away the nexo powers, which helped play off the monsters. The Book of Deception landed in front of your feet.

- Guys, I have the book. - You said, looking at the cover of the book.

- Great, that was our task. - said Clay and you gave him the book and he carried it to Fortrex.

In the evening you went to Axel's family inn for dinner, where porcupine stew was served.

- You know, Mama Axl. You don't have to pretend anything in front of us. - Macy said.

- Well, you know we just didn't want anyone to think we were so rural. - Mama Axl repiled with a nervous smile.

- Rural? Rural is a good thing. - said Lance as he was poured another bowl of stew soup.

- In the Labyrinth you mentioned something about wanting a big bowl of my mom's stew, so.... - Axl said.

Aaron burst out laughing when Lance had to eat the whole soup with pain. When it was him who was poured a bowl of soup he sniffed it and almost flinched.

- It smells like... feet. - He said in disgust, and Clay poked him hard on the shoulder.

Aaron looked daggers at him and glanced at you as you stirred a spoon in the stew. Curious, you looked at the dish and it seemed fine to you.

You scooped some onto the spoon and tried it. Aaron watched in disbelief as a smile spread across your lips.

- Does anyone have any pepper? - You asked.

Papa Axl handed it to you and you seasoned the stew. Aaron and Lance's jaws dropped as you ate your soup.

- How can you eat it? - Aaron asked in a whisper.

You swallowed your food and looked at him.

- It doesn't taste bad. It's a little sweet and... you can smell onions. But not the worst, I've eaten worse things. Only you have to watch out for needles. - You shrugged and went back to eating.

- Dude, they switched your sister. - muttered Aaron to Clay. Clay looked at him with a sarcastic smile and hit Aaron hard in the ribs with his elbow. Aaron squirmed and looked with furrowed brows at your brother.
