Chapter 17: Joust Games

- I'm Herb Herbertson live straight from the Knighton Invitational Joust Games! - announced the host.

Today you have gathered in the arena in Knightonia to support and cheer on Aaron, who is once again competing in the annual Joust Games to once again defend his title. Despite the fact, that he wins this tournament every year, you have always felt the thrill and excitement of his performance. As Aaron's best friend, you are always here to support him, as are others.

- And I'm Alice Squires! We've got you covered with some of the best archers, hoverboarders and guys who.... do something cool on hover horses!

You, Macy and Clay sat in the two row to have the best view from above of Aaron's actions and waved cheerfully, as did the rest of the crowd, before the tournament began.

- Can we go now already? I wanted to do a couple of hours of training, before my evening workout. - complained Clay as usual every year.

- But Aaron's got one more race! - Macy said.

- You know, that he will win. He always does. - answered her with complete conviction.

- But I want to see, how he wins! - you groaned. - Anyway. Don't tell me, you want to see him beat that Trixx Taylor.

- That's... one of the reasons, I'm here. - He admitted after a moment.

The starting signal for the final competition of the tournament sounded in the arena and you fell silent, watching the match. First to move was that Trixx Taylor, Aaron's great opponent and his opponent for the title of champion. He set off on a mechanical horse and shot every target accurately.

- Trixx Taylor achieves an fantastic time! 1:04:07 second! - announced Herb, causing you and Macy to frown.

- The judges are thrilled with him, Herb! - squealed Alice. - A perfect round by Trixx Taylor!

The judges' counter showed a perfect score. You gasped and got up from your seat, staring at the screen.

- A perfect score? But that means Aaron has to get the same perfect score and in even less time!

- Relax.  Aaron can handle it. - Clay told you.

You sighed and sat back in your seat. You glanced at Aaron's opponent, who looked at you and winked at you with a smirk on his face. You growled, looking at him with a nasty look.

- He's doing it again. - You said to Macy and Clay.

- Who doing what? - asked a confused Macy.

- Taylor. He's staring at me again. It's... creepy. - You admitted with a shudder.

Macy glanced in his direction and put her arm around you in a comforting gesture, sending him an mad look.

The call sounded and you looked across the arena as Aaron quickly stepped forward and started shooting, more showily at the targets. A smile appeared on your face as you watched the boy dash across the arena.

- And now our two-time champion Aaron Fox! - Herb announced. - Will he manage to perfect score under a minute to win?

- Aaron is really so sweet, I could cut him into pieces, could you Herb? - Alice asked.

You, Clay and Macy looked at each other worried at this comment. Aaron heard it too and raised his eyebrows.

Aaron jumped off his horse and quickly shot at the designated targets, before his horse returned to him and jumped on him again for another target.

- Woah... - you muttered in awe.

- Amazing. - sighed Macy.

- Impressive accuracy, even for Aaron. Some would say that's impossible. - said Alice.

- What's impossible about that? It's Aaron Fox! A boy who knows how to do the impossible. - You said in an obvious tone, sharing a look with Macy.

- Some people would say that this is incorrect. - said Herb.

She giggled at you and patted you on the back. The stopwatch had already counted thirty seconds. You shared a worried look with Macy while Aaron still had a lot of goals to accomplish.

Suddenly, you noticed a ramp appear on the track that wasn't there before. You raised your eyebrows, sensing that something was wrong. Monsters emerged from behind the ramp with Burnzie and Sparkss starting to shoot lava monsters at Aaron.

Aaron's horse cleared the obstacle and the boy jumped off his horse, eager to face the monsters.

 - There are monsters in the arena! - cried Clay, pulling a sword out of nowhere.

- Thanks, Captain Obvious. - you said sarcastically.

- But if anyone... - you started.

- If anyone enters the arena and helps Aaron, he will be disqualified. - Alice said.

- What she said.

Clay looked at you in disbelief and shook his head. You looked at Aaron, waiting to see what he would do, even though his time was up.

- Just chill, dudes! I've got this! Merlok Nexo Knights!!!

- Merlok always springs into action and saves the day! - You said, spreading your arms.

Aaron summoned the Nexo power and began to defeat the monsters, turning them into a mist that returned to the Book of Monsters. The boy, as if he had also received a turbo charge, jumped on his shield and shot at the monsters in the blink of an eye. All three of you gasped under the impression and get up from your seats.

- Woah! Look at him go! - exclaimed an amazed Clay.

- Get them Aaron! Turn them into dust! - exclaimed Macy with a wide grin.

- Show them who's boss! - you called out.

Soon the monsters were defeated and the crowd erupted in cheers for Aaron, as you three did, clapping for him with wide smiles.

Suddenly an alarm sounded and you looked at the stopwatch, which showed that Aaron's round had expired. You, Macy and Clay gasped and looked at each other.

- No, way! I lost track of time! - exclaimed Aaron.

Aaron looked down. You looked at him sadly, before looking up angrily.

- That's not fair! It wasn't his fault! - You said indignantly, being mad at the monsters.

Aaron looked at you and smiled slightly, seeing, you defending him, before looking at the judges. The referees looked at each other, before smiling broadly and announcing the score. Five eleven's!

- Increible! Aaron Fox scores five eleven's and wins again! Some would say that's impossible! - exclaimed Herb.

You sighed in surprise and looked at Macy and Clay, who were also surprised, before all three of you as well as Axl and Lance started cheering loudly for Aaron.

- And what's impossible!? Aaron Fox, doing the impossible! After all, everyone knows that! - you cried out now confused.

Macy laughed and put her arm around you. Clay sighed with a satisfied smile, when he saw Trixx Taylor getting nervous.

- Come on, people! Let's congratulate our champion. - He said and you all walked down from the stands to Aaron.

Aaron landed on the ground, holding the cup in his hands. You walked up to him with wide smiles.

- Well, bravo champ! - said Lance, slapping the archer on the shoulder.

- We knew, you would win! - added Macy.

- Just like always, you're invincible. - said Clay.

- You're amazing! - Axl said.

Aaron laughed. - Thanks, guys. That means a lot.

They all looked at you, only to raise an eyebrow, because you were looking to the side. They looked in the direction, you were looking and saw Trixx Taylor and most likely his entourage coming down from the arena.

Trixx looked at you gently, before throwing threatening daggers at Aaron, who raised an eyebrows at him.

- What's with this guy? - Lance asked.

- I think, he's jealous that you've won, Aaron.... again. - admitted Macy.

- I'll never understand him. And I don't want to understand. - Aaron said, shaking his head.

- So... shall we eat something? - asked Axl after a while.

You burst out laughing, but agreed with the giant.

- Well done, Aaron. You've defended your title! You sneaky fox! - you said joufully.

- Thanks, (Y/N)!

Suddenly Aaron was lifted off the ground by Clay and Lance, so they could carry him on their shoulders. You laughed and shook your head as you started heading for the arena exit.

- Lance and Clay carrying Aaron together of their own accord? I need to write, that down somewhere. - You said to Macy, who laughed.

- Let the boy enjoy it. Let them enjoy his victory. - she whispered to you.

You nodded your head in agreement. - Aaron had outsmarted his competition for the third time in a row. That's amazing! Another two years and he'll be written into the book of famous archers.

- Yes. You've got a lot to love him for. - Macy said.

- Me? You must have meant us. As his friends? - You said, looking at her confused.

- Of course we do. - she said with a teasing smile.

- Sometimes I really don't know, what's going on in your head. - you admitted.

Macy just nodded, dismissing what you said and whispered to herself, which you couldn't hear.
