Chapter 30: That One Stupid Ending That Happens to be Mine

The rock stopped, hovering right above my nose.
It shattered into a thousand pieces, none of them hitting me. I sat up, then stood once my legs finished healing.
Max now stood in the doorway, looking determined and quite angry.
He started walking toward me, grabbing my locket along the way. Then he turned to face Rufus, who looked pretty baffled by the situation.
Two other guys that I didn't know followed.
One of them was so tall that I felt like I shrank, with orange hair and blue eyes. When he walked toward Max and me he looked down at me, and scowled! He shall now be known as Grumpy.
The other boy walked over. He looked a little bit like Luke, but friendlier. He was holding a huge gun in his hand. He is now Weapons.
Then two girls walked in. Of course, one of them had to be Angel. The other was shorter, with short, light brown hair with the same color eyes. She had a staff in one hand, so Staff will be her name.
Angel and Staff walked over, and Max passed them the locket.
Max stood there as the other four held onto the locket, their other hand raised.
All five of them created a yellow light in their hand, and blasted Rufus. After a while I joined in, until Rufus bursted into a cloud of smoke.
"Leo, David go help the Shadows. Angel and Donala, go check the perimeter of the shack for others. And call the rest of the team!" Max shouted as they walked out.
I looked around. "Max, what's going on?"
He turned toward me, but not making eye contact.
"Alice, oh my gosh." He whispered before running over, going right through me.
I spun around to see him shaking a body that was lying on the ground. Not just any body, mine.
"Wake up!" He shrieked.
I laid still, unmoving, on the floor.
"No. No no no no no No NO!" I shouted.
No one heard me. Max put his head in his hands and started sobbing softly.
I ran over to him and placed my hand on his shoulder. My hand went right through him, and he shivered.
Suddenly a man appeared. He wore a doctor outfit, and had a clipboard.
"How are you feeling?" He asked, holding up a chart with the numbers 1-10 on it, each showing a face above it.
The scene changed immediately, and I was suddenly in a hospital bed.
My head was throbbing with a great intensity, and it hurt really badly.
I held up seven fingers, and he nodded, writing something on his clipboard.
"Your mother wants to see you." He mumbled as he wrote.
My mother?
A woman who strongly resembled me bursted into the room, then ran to my side.
"Oh, my poor Catherine. How are you honey?"
"She shouldn't really be talking right now, miss." The doctor said. "She just woke up from the surgery, and most likely will have some memory problems. Just leave her be, for now."
Surgery? Memory problems? What was in this guy's water?
The strange woman nodded, and scooted a few steps back.
"Where's Max?" I demanded.
"Your brother? He's still in Oregon, Catherine."
Why does she keep calling me that?
"No, my friend Max. I don't have any siblings."
"Well, of course you have siblings." She answered. "I'm your mother, I would know."
The doctor coughed from where he was. "Remember, there's a possibility that she doesn't remember anything from before. For all we know, she could have had a vivid dream and believed it was her life, give her a break."
The woman nodded again, then faced me.
"Do you know who I am?" She asked.
"No, and quit calling me Catherine. My name is Alice." I responded, getting angry.
She reached for my hand, and I slapped hers away.
"Don't touch me!" I yelled. "I want to know exactly where I am and how to get back to my real family!"
The woman looked at the doctor, and he shrugged as if to say, 'I told you so.'
She looked panicked. "Is there a possible way that we could get her memories back now?" She asked.
He shrugged again. "You could bring someone in that was close to her." He suggested.
She nodded for about the billionth time, then turned to me.
"Stay here. I'll be back in a second." She said.
Seriously, where would I go?
She came in about one minute later, dragging a teenage boy behind her.
It was Jay.
I grabbed a nearby base filled with flowers and held it in front of me in a defensive stance.
They both backed up a few steps.
"Honey, what's wrong?" The lady asked.
"Get him away from me!" I shouted.
"But I'm your boyfriend." He said from behind her.
"Oh." I responded, lowering the vase, then I set it back on the table next to me.
They both sighed in relief, then Jay walked to my side.
I smiled my most convincing smile and let him hold my hand.
You guys don't think I'm really letting him off that easy right?
"Do you want to see a magic trick I learned in my dream?" I asked, still fooling them.
"Anything for you." He replied.
I let go of his hand, did some magical looking hand movements, then clapped dramatically.
"Our relationship has...disappeared." I said, adding jazz hands on the word disappeared.
It took him a second to figure out what had just happened, and when he did I punched his face.
Blood started trickling out of his nose where my fist had collided.
He cried out in pain, and I cracked my knuckles.
"No one kidnaps me and gets away with it." I finished, feeling quite proud of myself.
"Catherine!" My supposed mother shouted. "He never kidnapped you!" She rushed over.
While she was babying Jay, I took it upon myself to get up and walk out. The doctor didn't seem to care, and my fake mother and Jay were preoccupied.
About two minutes later, fake mom and Jay came running after me.
I did the first thing that popped into my head.
I clapped once, feeling the magic rush through me again. The wind was blowing hard and fast, blowing my hair around as I slowly recharged my powers, and fake mom and Jay stood in silence and awe. I turned and looked in the mirror that was right next to me, and the wind stopped.
Time froze, as I intended it to.
My reflection resembled the one in my dream that I'd had so long ago. The only exception being that horrid dress, and the massive amounts of makeup.
I knew what happened next.
"Alice, honey." My real mother's voice called. "I'm so proud of you. You've conquered and defeated the worst, and here you are. But sadly, not everything is over, you still will be haunted by everything that's happened, and unfortunately I won't be there to help anymore. But I know that you can do anything. I love you."
Before I could say a word, she disappeared.
I looked at the floor and saw a note.
It read: Everything you could ever want could be yours. Everything.
I might be gone, but I'm still here.
I'm watching, waiting.
JOIN US.
-Rufus

The scene changed once again.
My eyes fluttered open, to reveal another hospital.
A familiar face stared down at me, shadowing the bright light.
Once my eyes adjusted, I saw who it was, and I spoke his name out loud.
"Max."
