Chapter 29: The Beginning of my End
I'd been through a lot of crap in my life, pain, suffering, unending sorrow, betrayals, deaths, and anything else people felt like doing to hurt me. But now I know that it was just preparing me for this. The backstabbing of a life time. Peter, one that I had trusted from the beginning, was one of the very first to kill the fraction of a soul that I had left.
Him and Jay stood at the other end of the medium sized room, watching me, waiting for their master, waiting for my death.
Jay whispered something to Peter, and Peter walked to the door and left.
I tried testing my powers for about the millionth time, and failed once again.
"Oh please just stop. There's no use, they're not going to work." Jay said from his side of the room.
I tried three more times, then slumped back into the chair I was on. I also tried to get the knotted ropes off my wrists and ankles, but failed at that too.
"You're determination is inspiring, but in this case, annoying as heck!" Jay shouted. He shifted around for a moment, then sighed. "How do the people of this generation wear these clothes? They're quite unflattering to me, and nowhere near comfortable whatsoever!"
I looked him over. He was wearing jeans and a T-shirt.
"What?" He questioned. "Haven't you figured it out yet?"
I shook my head, confused.
He sighed. "Have you wondered why Rufus and I are such close comrades? Well, let's just say that there's nothing like time, that would strengthen an alliance. And trust me, we've had more than enough time for that."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
He started walking toward me.
"Stupid, ignorant, Alice." He said. He then sprinted toward me. His nails dug into the skin on my hands, and his face was so close, that our noses were only half-an-inch apart, and I could smell his foul breath. "I'm old enough to be your great-great-great-grandfather or older!" Then he took a step back, and started pacing around the room as he spoke. "Rufus and I were best friends in kindergarten. When we were in high school, he had gotten his first power. I was the first to know of course, and at first it was amazing. He could send thoughts into other people's minds, and even send their brains commands." He paused, then continued. "Eventually he figured out how to control someone completely. He'd take over, do his bidding, leave them, making them collapse and wake up moments later, thinking it was all a dream. When we were eighteen years old he began to be interested in dark magic. He cursed himself and me, turning himself into one of the most powerful demons of all time, and making it so as long as he was around, I'd never die. He also turned his girlfriend, Juliet into a demon. They were happy together, until your mother destroyed Juliet. He vowed revenge on your entire family, and that leads us to right now. He vaporized your mother's heart and caused the plane crash that killed your dad. They were no match for him and neither are you and your cousins. He's unstoppable."
Anger burned inside me, and I clenched my fists. Rufus, killed my parents. Both of them. I felt the emptiness disappear inside me, and I made tiny flames in my hands and on my ankles, burning the ropes.
"What's that smell?" Jay asked as I stood up. He spun around. "What the—"
I didn't give him a chance to finish his sentence.
I blasted him with my light power, and he went soaring across the room, landing unconscious.
I wasted no time, I headed for the door, easily opening it and finding myself in a short, narrow hallway with only one other door. I raced toward the door, only pausing one moment to hope that Peter wasn't behind it.
The door opened easily to reveal...
Peter.
He was filling a bucket with water. When he saw me he dropped the bucket, mouth open.
Water splashed over the cemented area and drained into the dead, brown grass that surrounded the fairly small building we were at.
Ready for action, I went into his mind, and started reading his thoughts.
'Yes! I knew she'd make out alive! Man, poor Jacob, he's probably beaten up pretty badly.' He thought.
Jacob?! Who on earth is Jacob?! I thought.
'I hope she'll forgive me. I want to help. I love her.' He continued in his mind.
Enraged, I suddenly shouted out, "Bull crap you love me! You stinking kidnapped me for Rufus! What is wrong with you?! No wait, you're a sick pig, that's what's wrong!"
He looked startled, "Were you...reading my thoughts?" He asked.
"No, I just magically knew what you were thinking." I sarcastically replied.
He opened his mouth to reply, and I stomped my foot, sending him flying across the yard-type thing.
Then, I super-speeded over, created a rope, and bounded it around his wrists, then his ankles.
"Alice! Let me go!" He shouted.
"Um, let me think about it...no." I answered.
Turning away from him I began to think., shutting my eyes.
Where's a place that Rufus wouldn't look for me. Somewhere that's not obvious.... The broken shack in the woods!
I opened my eyes.
I was at the shack.
"Oh, look who it is." A voice said.
I slowly turned around to see Jerome standing in the doorway of the shack, smiling a demonic smile.
Before I could do anything he flipped me upside down, holding me in the air with his powers.
While he was laughing my locket fell, landing with a clunk that he didn't seem to hear.
"Well this is great." He said while smiling. "While the Shadows are distracted with their severely injured mother, I can take care of you." He continued, not breaking his grin.
With that he sent me soaring across the room, that suddenly seemed to grow.
My legs made a sickening crunch when I landed, the room was spinning, and my head thudded against a hard wooden floor.
I struggled to sit up.
"Jerome, don't do this." I croaked, my throat scratchy.
"I...can't...control...it." He managed to say.
He was now standing in front of me, with a large rock above his head.
He was about to drop it on me.
"No!" Someone shouted.
Demetri barreled into the room and ran into Jerome.
Jerome was knocked unconscious, and a black cloud came out of his body.
It seeped into Demetri, and he picked up the rock and began walking towards me.
I couldn't stand, my legs were broken.
"Heal!" I said.
I could feel my healing power working, but it wasn't fast enough.
"Mikey!" I yelled. "Mikey!"
He ran into the room.
He shot a fireball at Demetri, who crumbled to the floor.
The black cloud then went to Mikey.
As Mikey was picking up the rock, Isabel came.
There were tears on her face, and I knew that Shandra must not have made it.
She froze him, and the cloud went to her.
When she picked up the rock, I thought of blasting her.
No. I can't.
"Do...it." She said.
I reluctantly made an energy ball in my hand, hesitated, then hurled it at her.
It hit her and she flew into the wall behind her.
The dark cloud began to take it's own form.
A man stood before me, and I knew that it was Rufus.
"Silly girl." He said.
He lifted his hand and the rock floated in the air.
My legs were almost completely healed.
I spotted my necklace a few feet away.
I need my necklace to defeat him.
Now I just needed a distraction.
He moved the rock so it loomed over top of me.
"Your time is up." He said.
He dropped his hand.
And the rock plummeted down.
