Chapter 15: The Worst Phone Call of my Life

~Demetri~

My cell phone rang on Sunday night. A picture of Alice and me popped up on the screen. I had a gut feeling that something was wrong. Ignoring it I answered the phone.
"Demetri?" Her voice asked.
"Miss me already?" I sarcastically asked.
"No, I have some bad news. I want you to stay calm."
"I can handle it." I assured her.
There was a pause.

~Isabel~

Nobody was home except for me.
At least that's what I thought.
I'd been practicing using my new power.
I have had the power for about a month now. When I'd refused to leave this house and Mom forced just Demetri to go I became sick. My hands and throat hurt like heck. Then I could breathe ice breath and shoot ice out of my hands. Nobody knew.
I was freezing things in my room when I heard something like crying on the second floor. (I was on the third floor.) I thought I must have been hearing things because I was home alone.
Then I heard glass smashing.
Piano keys banging like a child was attempting to play.
More glass shattering.
Then a wail of pain.
I knew that voice from anywhere.
I ran out of my room, rushed down the stairs, and hesitated before opening Demetri's bedroom door.
The room was a trash hole. Everything had been thrown across the room from its previous place. His piano was smashed and a bat was near. Posters that were on his wall were now unrecognizable because he'd torn them to pieces and thrown them on the floor. The two windows closest to his bed were broken and glass shards were all over the floor, and I mean everywhere. Sitting up against the wall beneath one of the windows was Demetri. He was crying and his hands were bleeding like crazy. It was a good thing I was wearing shoes because he was all the way across the room.
"What happened here?" I asked, a little angry.
He looked up to meet my eyes. His eyes were like a never ending tunnel. It made me feel like I was staring into his soul.
"How did you do all this without me hearing?"
"I have a shield power. It blocks out all noise. I put it around you and anyone in hearing distance. You were the only one though." He said.
"I heard the glass breaking though."
"When I went for the windows I forgot to put the shield back up." He replied.
I wondered if he was yelling because his voice sounded raspy.
"So why'd you do this?" I asked.
"Alice broke up with me."
"What? Why?"
"She said that she wants to be normal and people that have powers are not." He said. "After I told her that she has powers too she said that she is not ever using them again and hung up."
"Demetri, even though you're angry-"
"I'm not angry." He said.
"Doesn't matter. You still can't vandalize your own room even if it is yours."
He just sat there.
"I'm calling Jerome." I said, pulling out my phone.
"No! Please don't." He pleaded.
"You may not know this but Jerome can help fix your room, so I would stop complaining. Go clean your hands and put on band aids."
He stood up and shuffled out the door.
Jerome answered after the first ring.
"Hello?" He said.
"Jerome, it's Isabel, I need you to come over to the house right now."
"Why?"
"Don't ask questions, just come." And I hung up.
He showed up 5 minutes later.
I was waiting for him by the door.
"What's so important?" He asked as soon as he walked through the door.
"Just go up to Demetri's room and fix it."
"No." He said.
"Excuse me?" I asked.
"I need an explanation before I do anything."
I sighed. "Demetri destroyed his room because Alice dumped him."
"Wait, she's single now?" He asked.
"Just go. Mom is gonna be home soon." I commanded.
He ran upstairs and I followed behind.
"Whoa." Was all he said.
"Fix it!" I yelled in his ear.
He lifted his hands and suddenly everything started flying around the room in a tornado form. Things went shooting out of the tornado and landing in their spots. Once Demetri's room was spotless again I turned to Jerome and said,
"Thank you."
"Demetri should be thanking me."
"Whatever. Hey, can you heal cuts too?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Go check out Demetri's hands." I said.
A car pulled in the driveway.
"Go fix his hands and I'll distract her till you come down with Demetri." I said
Jerome nodded and ran toward the bathroom.
I made it downstairs and on the couch as Mom walked in.
"Hey Izzy." She said.
"Hey Mom." I replied
"What are you doing?"
"Just chilling."
"Okay."
Mikey walked in the house and slammed the door closed.
"What's up with you?" I asked.
"Jerome forgot to pick me up from gamers club so Mom had to."
"What's wrong with me?" She asked.
"You always tell embarrassing stories about me and dance around all the time."
"Well I'm sorry that I do that." She said.
Jerome and Demetri came walking down the stairs.
"Hey Mom." Jerome said.
"You didn't pick me up from gamers club." Mikey said.
"Oh! Sorry dude I forgot." Jerome apologized.
"Whatever." Mikey said.
There was a moment of silence.
"Will someone please invite Alice over for dinner? I want her opinion on something I made." Mom asked.
I heard Demetri suck in a breath.
"That might be a good idea Mom." Jerome said.
"Why not?" Mom asked.
"Because she and Demetri broke up today." I said.
"Oh no!" Mom yelled. She ran over a gave Demetri a big hug.
After Mom was done hugging him she continued.
"How are you going to face her on school tomorrow?"
"I don't know." Demetri said.
"Man that's gonna be hard," Mikey said, "you sit right next to her in first hour right?"
"Yeah." Demetri said. And he walked up to his room.
I kinda knew how he felt.
He'd lost his girlfriend, and I lost my best friend.
